I spent another hard working night on smoothing lacquer finishes on guitar necks at my worktable, and needed something to watch/listen to as I worked. So off I went to my IO cable, and ordered what I thought was going to be a fantastic film. There were so many big stars in it, how could I go wrong? Oops. I did not want to watch the insane ramblings of a dysfunctional family, even if they are movie stars that I love and admire. Fortunately it did have a plot line, and it did move, though not as fast as I would have liked. The two saving graces of this movie were Alan Arkin and Steve Carrell. Arkin was his usual self, and Carrell was deeply interesting as the suicidal brother. I'm constantly amazed by Carrell - I think that he will go far in comedy. Well of course I've seen "The Office" and "40 Year Old Virgin" - which had me in absolute stitches. Yes, I know guys who are like that. You can't help it if you're a Trekkie or a Tolkienite. There a virgins everywhere, and they look and dress just like that! *cough* Anyway, I stayed with "Little Miss Sunshine"to the very end, and I found that it was not as funny as I might have guessed it to be. I felt let down. I felt blue. I didn't laugh enough. For my money - I didn't get what I was looking for. What did you think of it? Did you like it? Hate it? Tell us about it.

The humor in Little Miss Sunshine is definitely more off beat and sometimes subtle. I liked it...it wasn't a typical mainstream movie. It felt more like an independent comedy with big stars.

I'm sorry you didn't find it as funny as you thought it would be, it had me in absolute hysterics. I've never laughed that much at a movie in the cinema before and especially the whole thing at the end really got me laughing. I think the difference is that I didn't expect anything from the movie, I barely knew the storyline so I was surprised when it turned out to be funny.
