Are you an antiamerican? Do you think this is an intellectual idea? Do you think Americans are guilty for all the problems of nowadays world? Do you think they don't care about ecological means? Do you think they impose their culture to others? Do you think they have no history or not a cultural background that worth (or at least worth less than European's)? Do you think they have no sotial security and their hospitals would let someone die if this person has no money? Do you think they are more intolerants towards others than other countries? Do you think their patriotism is showinism? This are a few lies I hear everyday here in Spain, and I thin in many other places is like this. But when I went there I saw myself that is totally the contrary.

I'm American so I am a insider. Are Americans guilty for all the problemsin the world. Not all but our share.Do we care about ecological means? Some of ue do but not all of us. that is the beauty and the problem. There are so many different types of Americans. We are so busy with our own lives that we don't on average think about the rest of the world. And there is a great divide between the people and the government. I wouldn't be surprised if one day The Congress will try to make a bill the law and the people will not notice and won't abide by it.Do we impose our culture on the rest of the world? Yes and no. Yes because we import our sports and movies and t.v. shows to the world and the young like it and try to copy it. No because we don't sit around and plot and plan how to take over the world's cuture and replace it with our own. Most Americans, especially the young, couldn't find Europe on a map. The cowpanies that import the sports and shows only want your money. They don't care about culture. Most don't know what real culture is anyway.America has a rich history but here it isn't respected like European history is.We have a culture but it isn't as old as European culture. How can it be. When it comes to how old a country is , America is only a teenager while Europe is an adult.Since we have no respect for history, we don't respect anything or anyone old. Change is good is our moto. Anything that is too old is ignored or is replaced. It is true we will never have a good health plan for all of our citizens and thr richer you are, the better your health care.About other countries, most Americans couldn't find them on the map. It is not that we don't like other countries, we don't realize they exist. And i think it goes back to our lack of respect for history. If it didn't happen during my lifetime, it didn't happen is the feeling our most of the young. And because we don't teach history in the schools like we should, the young don't learn about the world. That is why the young are so ignorant of the world. After 911 here in the U.S. we became more Patriotic. And we went overboard. If you didn't like America you were evil was the feeling around here.for the record that kind of stsement I hate. It is too arrogant for me. I think The U.S. is gerat but so are so many countries too.I guess the main thing to remember is that for each gung-ho america is #1 and the rest of the world doesn't matter American, there is an American who knows and respects the rest of the world's views and loves their country too.The only thing all Americans can agree on is that they are American, and sometimes we can't even do that.

I am not anti American. I don't think you can blame America for all of the world's problems. We might stick our nose in places it doesn't belong sometimes. We make tons of mistakes in dealing with others. You are very right. You might hear all kinds of negative comments about a country and its people, but until you go there and see the country and meet some of its peole, you can't be sure.
So in my view, I am positve toward all countries and people until I have first hand knowlegde to the contrary. Like any other country, there are a variety of people, ideas, beliefs and opinions in the US. It is foolish to judge any country or its people based on the action or beliefs of only a few.

Hi Missak, no I certainly am not antiamerican. No a lot of country have caused these problems that we have in the world today, plus for myself I have family that are Americans, no it is the government of America that has made the other people think this of the American people not the actual people, I do not think any of this about America, of course it would be contrary to what other say the people with these comments need to go and see for themselves so that their minds will change.

You must put the blame in your media manufacturer, because what the foreign policy makers say and do,the media buys it as if it was the gospel truth.I know they knew the truth, but because of the prevailing corruption they just swallow the lies and deceit of the foreign policy makers.I don't hate the Americans,i hate the system and its government.Without the system,i am very sure there are no famine or poverty in third world countries.Because of them and the British behind, many Asians and Africans are in debt to the I.M.F.-WB.Of course im not saying that third word countries is debt free, but debts are unmanageable because o f the floating exchange rate. With regards to terrorism,i personally think, these terrorism are made by your leaders to justify their deeds. So many proof i don't want to elaborate.

Famine and poverty exist everywhere for two reasons: 1, there's just too many humans populating the Earth. The only other organisms that reproduce until the host environment is overwhelmed are bacteria and viruses; 2, the patriarchal domination of all world societies. Male mammals (with few exceptions) are born to fight for the right to pass on their genes. Females are born to sustain the lives created. It is truly self-sabotaging on a global level to let those whose basic impulses are destructive be in charge of everything. If women ran the world, no one would die of hunger. Population control would be instititutionalized, because almost no woman actually wants to destroy her health and life expectancy by squeezing out baby after baby after baby after baby.
Poverty would be far less of a problem, because the basic human need to be fed would be a high priority, and help with this wouldn't be tied to a controlling interest in the the recipient's economic future.
Pollution would be much better controlled without the influence of major religions on political policies. Why should we care if we turn the Earth into a stinking cesspool overrun with our waste? The Messiah will come and end the world anyway, so it we don't have to inconvenience ourselves by being responsible and compassionate stewards of the land.
These problems go back 4,000 or 5,000 years, to the dawn of civilization. The idiots in charge of America right now are just the Darwinian distillation of humanity's worst self-destructive impulses, foisted on the world by less than 51% of the American Electorate. Pin a rose on them!
BTW, I belong to the pissed-off part of the American Electorate. Keep watching, give us a chance. Quite a few of us are working here on the grass roots level to enact lasting change. That's the damnable thing about"representative" democracy, as well as it's silver lining - get enough like-minded people together, and you can change the face of politics. Unfortunately, the only like-minded people currently organized enough to exert control are bigoted, xenophobic, hypocritical morons. Normal Americans are working hard to catch up!

I'm an American.
You know, the problems faced by our nation are mostly due to the fact that we are not interacting with other countries as a part of the world. We act independently of other countries' opinions, we make our own decisions, and we have our own set of morals.
I do not believe in manifest destiny, or in the kind of morals that George Bush II seems to think are good for us. His continued veto of the decisions of The House signal the fact that he is completely out of touch with the opinions of his people.
I'm afraid that Congress and the House are too afraid of impeaching him - it would throw us into a recession.
What America needs to do is get out, talk to our neighboring countries, try to become part of the World Community, and stop fighting silly battles over oil to please our strange and quite looney President.

I think you are both right.
Darlinggirl, I agree that America has a lot of good to share with the world, and could use its political sway more effectively. It is through earning others respect, and being fair, that you conbat terrorism. In Britain, we blindly sat by and allowed an anti-Catholic apartheid system to exist in Northern Ireland. As a consequence, some catholics felt that terror was their only weapon, as the London politicians were either ignoring or supporting this racism. Once our government started to address the root causes, the catholic and protestant average people saw hope for the future, and support for violence collapsed. The people of Northern Ireland chose peace, and have made it happen.
I wish the American government would learn from this example. It would save many liveas, both US and not, across the world.
Revdauphine, alas, I think the same of Tony Blair, and I doubt either of us are mistaken.

If somebody hate you, u have to think the reason behind it.As fare Iraq is concerned, Bush sent soldiers there to find out Chemical Weapons, but did he get anything, it is any country's job to do the work of police, u help them and don't make circumstances so that some body kill somebody in your name.It is like keeping the snake that was running thru the bushes into your panties.

I do not think it is all Americans that are responsible for what is happening. Maybe just a small group of people. I am not antiamerican because I know I didn't do anything to the world and neither did most of the Americans.

Life is easier in general in Europe...it is more social...you are not going broke if you are sick...America is not as luxury as many people think.
Here in America I am doing recycle every day...when I was in Europe this month, noticed that people don't care about recycle or biodegradable stuff...
American is more tolerate than other nations..........
Hospital is not going to let you die....they just send you a bill that you are not able to pay...and nobody care...
It is so funny, because media in Europe are publishing wrong information about America...and people have no clue about America in general....they know as much as they see in American movies...huge houses, big cars, rich peopleā¦.

I am pro-American. I am pro-people from everywhere if they are good and friendly with me too. The problem is that your politics and their military politic provoke too much negative feelings. Of course, this is not your fault! But do you support this politics and do you vote for them, do u accept their platform for world dominance?
I just show to you some of the reasons...

I think this a great subject for discussion, because it is a two-sided debate where the language used, and the nature of thought can become very grey.
I am aware that there are many myLot users who would regard me as anti-American, and, yet, there are also many Americans upon this site, who enjoy discussion with me regularly, and vice versa, and whose input/opinions/knowledge I trust and respect. They do not feel that I feel any hatred or bitterness towards them.
I DO have a problem with a very small percentage of Americans, and most notably with American politics and current foreign policy. In Spain, as with the rest of western Europe, you will have spent your whole life watching reports of terrorist attacks within your own beloved country. We all have, whether it be the IRA bombing mainland England, the UDF killing Catholics in Ulster, ETA assassinating judges and politicians, Algerian terrorism in France, Communists, like the Baader-Meinhoff gang, in Germany. It has been a sad and indiscriminate blight on the lives of Europeans for decades. During these decades, the US government funded terrorist organisations, to carry out their dirty work across the world, and to my taste, most insultingly inviting IRA terrorists to the White House, and treating them as honoured guests. Obviously, though, the average US citizen would never have knowingly allowed any of their taxes to be used in such a matter, which is why the government would hide such expenditure under vague terms in annual budget reports. After 1 single terrorist atrocity (by an outside terrorist force, because many Americans have bombed their own country before), the same government announces that they are at the vanguard in fighting terrorism! It is completely two-faced.
Again, you cannot really blame every US citizen, and many now express great sorrow at these kind of actions. Some, however, deny America ever doing anything wrong, falsely.
These few, I do have a problem with.
My own government, and your own, have performed badly, and hidden the facts, in the past, and shall probably do so again in the future, but within Europe we accept the imperfections, and do not feel we are beacons that MUST be followed by the rest of the world.
I deal with Americans, and US colleges and universities, and museeums, every week, and have thorough;y enjoyed my dealings with the people there. I have visited the US many times, and had enjoyable times. I am gald your forefathers discovered America, and that it is a relatively free democracy.
Does that make me anti-American, or not?

I am an American, and I do not subscribe to anti-Americianism. That being said, I can understand why other countries have poor views of us. We cannot however be blamed for all of the worlds ills since the vast majority of them started long before we were a country.
Our foriegn policy does leave much to be desired, especially with our current Administration. Jelousy does play a large role in why we are so disliked. We are rich (er than most), we are oppertunistic, we are arrogant and our views and policies can do a complete 180 in as little as 4 years with the election of a new political party.
As a country we have problems, and issues just like every other Nation does. Sometimes we handle them better than others and sometimes worse. The people in general, are good, honest and want to do right by themselves, each other and the world. However the people are not in control, the government and corporations are-- to one extent or another.
I understand the current wave of anit-americanism, believe me I do. There are times when I am ashamed to be from this country because of our actions, or inactions as the case may be. I do however still feel pride, because as bad as we are, we are still the best that is available in the world today. That pride extends also to where our country as been, what it has been in the past, and hopefully what it will be one day in the future.

We really can't control Anti-American ideas anymore, and i must say i'm pretty tired about it. but if everything was to be blamed, it was the foreign policies followed by the major powers of the world before, during, and after the two great world wars. It was this policy of Colonialization and Imperialism that created the "ghosts" that is haunting America right now.
Foreign Powers before tend to impose their culture on other lesser nations; France, United Kingdom, Russia, and yes, even Spain (they had us under their heels for 300+ years!) had tried to impose their will through conquest. America was a former colony of United Kingdom, and from her it inherited this attitude of Imperialism.
The two great wars that was to shape the destiny of the world destroyed the ruling powers and pushed russia and america into rivalry since they we're left as the two superpowers.
America since then tried to persuade or if necessary force other countries to join them against Russia in guise of defending freedom from communism. Some of us may say that the tagline "we're doing these for the sake of world peace and democracy" was just sugarcoating to the real intention of promoting American Imperialism. Some might say that it really is the duty of America to serve as the world's "policeman" because of the great power it has militarily. But we cannot also deny that in some instances America had also commited grave abuse of its powers, thus appearing to be trying to impose against other nation's freedom.
It's really funny to think that Anti-American Ideas were given birth by American Foreign Policy themselves. It was they who tried to secretly support insurgent leaders in countries at civil war, only to find out later that the same person has suddenly turned into America's enemy because of disagreements. Look at Bin Laden. Look at Saddam. they we're supported by America before, only to find out that they have created their worst enemies.
