Do You hate going to the Doctor?

I haven't been to the doctor for over two years. It is wrong of me I know, with all my health issues I should have gone. I haven't even gotten my prescriptions filled in all that time. It started in February of 2005, I was so sick and so burned out that I quit my job. I wanted to take the break and take the unemployment and then go back to work. I can't work in customer service anymore, I just can't take the stress. My sister also died last January and that made it even harder. I have many things wrong with me including diabetes, and the last two winters I have been housebound. I just kept dreading going to the doctor. Today I called the clinic I went to to get an appointment with my doctor and I found that he doesn't even work there anymore. It is my fault I should have gone sooner. I just couldn't break myself to do it. I have to decide if I want to go back to that clinic and see another doctor there, or go to a clinic closer to home. And start all over again. Tell me do you hate going to the doctor as well?

O yes I hate going to the doctors , I avoid it like the plague. I dont go unless its absolutely necessary, even then I cant stand it. The last time I went was 8 months ago, and that was only because I had to have a checkup after bub was born. But believe me I didnt want to go then.

Ohhh...this is one of my least favorite things to do. Going to the doctor rates right up there with housework.LOL...I know it is important too, but I go as little as possible. I sometimes think they find more wrong with you than there actually is because they want you to come back and spend more money. My mother-in-law has not been in over 15 years and is almost 80. She refuses because they had her on so much medication that she got sick of it...that says something I think !

well, i wouldn't say that i like going to the doctor but i don't hate it as well... i will go when the circumstances require me to go... i would prefer to be diagnosis early if i have any illness rather than if i let it for too long and it becomes worst... by then, it will be too late or too expensive to cure my illness then... so, i would force myself to go to the doctor if i have to even though i don't really like going to the doctor as well...

sorry to hear your troubles. i also hate going to the doctor but for completely different reasons. doctors here in India have become very very professional with a financial twist to everything. gone are the days of the genial family physician who could diagnose most diseases by just looking at you. now doctors have become almost like blood-sucking leeches. most of them with a semblance of practice, charges through the roof per visit. and then without coming to any diagnosis, they will just ask you to undergo a battery of tests from selected diagnostic centres which that particular doctor patronizes. and then comes the medicine part which is another looooong list. so for something as commoplace as fever and cold, you could be poorer by 10/20 dollars (which is lot of money by Indian standards). so i religiously avoid visiting doctors and God has also been kind to me in the fact that i dont fall sick often and for minor cuts n bruises, my husband, who is a Medical Representative, manages the situation quite well.

No I don't, I don't like to be sick but I don't hate going to doctors to seek help. Many people don't go to doctors because they are busy, they don't have time, and they always say ... I'll be better soon. Anyway, to your condition, I think you should frequently visit doctor to check up your health especially you have diabetes; it is not dangerous if it is under controlled.

I have never liked going to the doctor. I used to go all the time as a kid and I haven't really gone in years even though I have health problems. But, I also don't have insurance and can't really afford to. I don't really like people looking at my body except a boyfriend or husband. I also don't like some of the attitudes that these doctors have and they are sometimes not very nice or act like they don't care.

I don't hate going to the doctors..Let's just say I'm lazy to go to the doctors. I am not that sickly..I have scoliosis that is all that bothers me. For your case I guess you should see someone new since your doctor already left.Maybe someone near your place so you can go whenever you can. Set an appointment each month to see your doctor...I believe you need it more than I do..Diabetes is a sickness you shouldn't put aside. You should go..it is not for anyone else but for your own health. You need to do it even if you hate doing it because it will help you get better. trust me..I'm a Nurse..I don't need to go to the doctor much because I know how to care for myself.

If you are sick, you really need the doctor unless you know what is the problem with you and are able to self-medicate, which I do not encourge. You can simply bring your records to the new doctor or let the new doctor know about the current medication you are taking. All doctors should be able to accept a new patient with existing medical records. I don't think it is starting all over again.

with certain conditions, you have to have an update and with diabetes they will do the tests over again, whether or not I walk in off the street with no records or they are able to send from them from the other clinic. It is starting all over again and it is how they operate here. If I was on medication and I haven't been in two years they would still need to test to see how the medication is working. So it is starting all over again no matter how you look at it.

I do understand. My mom is a diabetic. Perhaps you can get those devices to test your blood glucose daily or periodically? Saves some consultation costs.

I saw 12 different doctors in a ten year period, and they still can't figure out what's wrong, so I stopped going. I am sick of tests, sick of doctors, and the only time I have been to the doctor in the last two years is when I have been sick. Last year for bronchitis, and this year I had pluerisy. I really need to make an appointment, but I just hate the thought of going through all that again.

Hi Winterose I am very sorry to hear about the losss of your sister. It is no wonder that things have been difficult for you. ((((hugs))) I hope you will get an appointment with a doctor who you can trust. Can you get a doctor to visit you? I also hate going to the doctors. I didn't go for two years and got very ill. It seems so daunting sometimes for no real reason. I have to go to the doctors again soon. I am not looking forward to it. It is better to have a good doctor who you can trust. This makes it a bit easier. Kindest regards.

We shouldn't hate going to a doctor because doctors are supposed to be the only ones that can correctly prolong our lives and maintain our health in case of problems. Some people think that it's really scary but i always think that it really is more scary to know that you already have a terrible disease that could have been prevented if you had gone to the doctor sooner.

I don't actually mind going to the doctor as long as I have a doctor who cares about me. What I mind is the doctors who don't take the time to listen to you when you are trying to tell them what is wrong. Or the doctor who acts like you don't know what you are talking about when you explain the symptoms. It just seems like these days doctors only care about how much they can run up the patients bill.

Hi Winterose, No on the contrary I have the best doctor in the world, My dementia needs to be kept in control and she has done a wonderful job keeping me healthy, I would never not go to the doctor.I for the longest time I must have come across as a complainer, but the other day she told me I was her favorite patient as I never tried to over rule her and I have never failed to follow her advise, That is why i am going to her, why would I ignore her advise, but I guess a lot of people do, they want an instant pill to fix, and when it requires a change on their part they do not do it. She has my best interest and health as a concern for her Of course I would follow her advise. I am here and doing well exactly what she and I want. I do hope you find someone that is as caring and concerned as my doctor, I have had others that blow you off or send you to a dozen or so specialists, because they do not want to tell you what to do, If it comes from a specialist may be you will listen. I don't know.

I am quick to refer others to a doc if I think they need to go, but I personally HATE going, not bcos I'm afraid so much as they never tell me something I dun already know. I got spoilt by a doc friend who I used to call up if I was sick, tell him my symptoms and what i think it was and he'd tell me what to take. He immigrated, so I haven't had a doc since. Having my son was a nitemare cos I established a relationship w my gynae in SA and then moved mid preg to usa. I felt the treatment I received there, (considering I had to pay upfront and in cash for all service since I couldn't get health insurance there cos I was already preg and my sa insurance dint cover me in usa)was gross misconduct and v negligient since it was all about how much money they could milk me for. If I dint want an extra ultrasound, I was told my baby would die. They charged me for things they did w.o my consent when I expressly told them (and had them write in my notes) that those tests were not to be done. When I queried it, their office manager told me that the state required it and I had to pay for it. Nonsense! If the state required it, tell them to pay for it!!! I SAID NO!!! Still dint get my refund and of course further diminished my faith in docs.

My boyfriend really hated it. He's having a cough for almost a week now and I told him to see a doctor since the medicine didn't get enough with it. He even say that his shoulders are achy when he cough and I am scared what might happened to him. Any idea on how could I convinced him to see the doctor?

i hate goin to a doc as its a vicious circle which does not end..... doctors have the habit of passing time wid their patients(no other work lol)... recently i've been to a doc for routine check up... he started speakin stupid topics relatting to my personal life.... eg: do u have gf?, which coll are u in?? etc... so i find it awkward to answer stupid questions... and moreover immaterial subjects are discussed.... apart frm all... I'VE PHOBIA OF NEEDLES... so seein a doc is like a living hell for me as for every prob they have same solution.... "INJECTION"...HEHEH... so, i hate to go to a doc but have to go to stay healthy... compromising nature na.....hahahah
