The 1st Album, Cassette or CD you ever owned (?)

If you can remember, what was the very first music album, cassette or cd that you ever owned. I do not mean something you got when you were a child but rather something you picked out yourself or you were given as a gift because you requested it. Do you remember about how old you were? Would you still have the album, cassette or cd as a part of your collection now? If you can't remember the first one, then just tell me the first one you can remember or a few of the ones you first remember. For me I can remember a few of them. The Eagles - Hotel California .. it was a little 45" record. I played it over and over and over. ABBA - all of them but they were 8 track tapes at first and then when cassettes came out, I got those. I use to sing to those songs in the garage to my dog. He was the best fan I ever had! Shawn Cassidy - another 45" and I was a little pre-teen who thought he was cute. ACDC - Back in Black Cassette. My brother gave it to me and I thought I was suppose to like them because he did. It never grew on me. Devo - Whip It. My dad took it away because he didn't like the term "whip it" in the late 70s early 80s. Olivia Newton-John - Let's Get Physical. My dad also took this one away, took risky of a song for his pre-teen to be listening to. Ends up, he kept it for himself I found out as an adult!! The Clash - Rock the Casbah. LOVED this record. I got it for my 12th birthday, I believe. I would still have most of these in my collection today if I could with the exception of ACDC, Shawn Cassidy and Olivia. Just not my taste these days. So what about you?

I received for Christmas one year an LP of Petula Clarke. I can't remember the name of it. I don't have it any longer because a collector bought it when I had a garage sale. I received the lp for a musical the next year..can't recall what it was. The first LP I bought for myself was Cream's White Room. It was a special edition which I didn't know then. Someone has since pinched it and I only have the cover. It's gold and black rather than the regular silver and black. I also bought the Beatles "The White Album". During this time I bought several 45's, too many to list. I wasn't allowed to listen to them if my folks were home. I went to live overseas several years later and my stuff went into storage but I gave all my records to my s-i-l to keep safe for me. They were all badly scratched and damaged when I got them back 2 years later...no apology. I still have most of them, but I don't have a player. I bought one about 12 years ago but recently my stuff was in storage again and the rubber drive belt deteriorated. I can't afford another and I've since fallen in love with cd's.

When I was 3 or 4, I got George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set On You" single for Christmas. I was soo excited! Anytime I heard the song, I would stop whatever I was doing at that time. I guess I didn't really ask for it, but I obviously wanted it. The first tape I ever bought was a Randy Travis one. I don't remember which one it was it. He was wearing a black shirt on the cover. It was right before I started 1st grade. My grandma would give me quarters for things like helping her bring in groceries and helping water or weed the garden. I saved all those up to buy that tape. I knew my mom would buy it but I wanted it be MY own. The first CD I bought was Audio Adrenaline's "Bloom." I was in sixth grade. It was kind of funny how that worked out. We got our first CD player that year, and it was supposed to be a surprise for Christmas. My aunt ruined the surprise, though. She gave my sister 2 CD's for her birthday in November!

I think the first one I ever bought myself was the Righteous Brothers - and one of the songs on it is still to this day one of my favourite songs of all times - Unchained Melody. It still send chills down my spine. My man sings it beautifully and he often sings it to me in the pub we go to.

I remember this like it was yesterday. I am now 44 years old. I was probably around 10-12 years old when I borrowed money from my mother to pay $4.99 for a K-Tel record which contained a collection of songs by different artists. All my LP's are packed away in a box (or boxes) in my basement so haven't a clue whether I still have it. I think I probably do. I can't remember what it was called - something like Hits of the 70's. In that collection buried in the basement I also have Shaun Cassidy, Scott Baio, A Chorus Line, lots of Anne Murray, Elton John and The Eagles, Billy Joel. Oh, my Partridge Family Christmas Album is down there too. I really wish I could transfer all these records onto CD's or have a record player to play them on. Ah, the good ol' days!

The first album i bought was Sweet Singles by the Sweet when i was twelve I think. This was an album featuring four of their biggest hits, Ballroom Blitz, Hellraiser, teenage Rampage & Blockbuster all written by te song writing team of Chapman/Chinn (also wrote for Suzi Q, Mud, Racey, Smokie). It also featured some of their very best own compositions. I still have the record and played it recently. It's not bad even now. Sweet were one of those bands who never got the credit they deserved because their image shifted constantly, starting as a bubblegum band, moving to Glam rock and then hard rock and finally a jazzy funky fusion sort of sound, but I still like them Prety quickly I moved from Sweet to Deep Purple and the first album I got of theirs was Machine Head - in my opinion the greatest Hard Rock album ever made. The original purchase disappeared (presumably my brother commandeered it)and was replaced many years later by the 25th Anniversary album - that got stolen from a friend's car. I now have an a CD version

I remember having a 45 of Dolly Parton singing 9 to 5 when I was around 8 or so. I don't know if I picked it out myself or not though. The first things I remember getting, I must have been around 12 or so. I had John Cougar Melloncamp's Scarecrow album (that I played on my Fisher Price record player!) and 8 tracks of Huey Lewis's Sports, and one of their early albums. I thought those were so cool!

I'm not sure of my first record, but you just reminded me of my Shawn Cassidy days. I thought he was so cute. I had a bunch of 45's Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks, Bad Bad Leroy Brown, Under Cover Angel wow the memories. I know there are a bunch, I just can't remember. Then I got some albums, Kool In the Gang, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Journey, Kenny Rogers, I still have my albums, even though I can't play them.

The very first cd I owned was the album of back street boys. Its a gift from my Aunt when she got back from San Diego. She asked me what do I want and then I told her that I want a cd of BSB. I was so happy back then. lol However if you say the first cd I own, meaning that I have bought by my own money. It was the X movie original soundtrack. Because I was really fond of the ending song "Forever Love" by X-Japan. The song is quite emotional as I listen to it, something sad however has a strong impact in your heart. And the lyrics, I simply love the lyrics its so meaningful.
