Gas out

Canada

Using this method, perhaps we, the consumer, can be heard. NO GAS... On May 15th 2007 Don't pump gas on MAY 15th. This is for all the CANADIANS out there, too. In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight. On May 15th 2007, all internet users are asked to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places. There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the Internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up. If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day. If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldn't) re-send this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th" If you really need to purchase gas for your vehicle, buy just $10.00 or $20.00 worth at a time. It will drive the gas/fuel stations insane. Again, this method worked once before, as well, to bring the price of gasoline down. The big companies get overstocked and they need to keep the fuel moving. ----- End forwarded message -----

I usually fill up when i go to the pumps, gas here now is 1.20 a liter, how much is it where you are huggiebear?? I wont pump gas on that date, just to prove a point to the oil companies, be nice if everyone did the same but you know there are many out there that just dont care, they need the gas and dont care which day they need it on...

On monay we hit 127.9 now today when looked it was 122.3 there are soem places more. Makes no sense a friend on the island was pay 109.9 and went down to 106.9 go figuire. Would not mind the huge profits if they build more refineries with a large amount of oil on th emarket adn gasoline wholesale price dropping why is it not dropping at the pump.

I think this is a great idea and I, for one, am with you. I live in Oregon and it's $3.39. For cryin out loud, no wonder the unemployment rate is so high, nobody can afford to drive to work, let alone look for a job. I live in a small town so I would have to drive 30 miles one-way to get a good job. It's not worth it if you consider the wear and tear on my car, oil changes, tires, brakes, etc. Not only that, but I drive 45 miles, one-way, to do my grocery shopping. Luckily I only do that once a month. I know I won't be getting gas on the 15th. Thanks for the information. I actually remember the one in '97. I was living in Reno and I remember that the pumps weren't as busy as usual. Not everyone will be in on this, but hopefully there will be enough to make the difference.

I think this is an excellent idea, and I will pass it on to all of my friends and email pals. When I filled up today, I decided that this was all the gas I was going to buy this month. I have a very efficient car, and I have learned to plan trips. Even if gas goes back down, I am not going to let gas hold me hostage anymore.

Count me in on this. Can you just imagine what would happen if everyone refused to buy gas for one month. Even at one day, I'm in. Something has to change fairly soon or I won't be driving at all. It's over 5.00 a gallon here now and talk has it we could be paying between 7 and 8 dollars a gallon. If that's the case my old Buick is left in park.

I will definitely share this with my partner! Here in Vancouver yesterday we saw Gas prices at $1.29 a litre! It's ridiculous. Out East they have caps put on their Gas prices so they can't raise them over a certain price, but out here on the West Coast, there's no such thing. We used to be able to fill our car on $15, now we fill our car on a little over $40. $20 gets us a little under half a tank. Hopefully, this boycott will do something. If the last one was anything to go by, they may just lower their prices some.

That for sure or even it out accross the country make it one price and that is it. Strange how it always seems to go up 3 cents then down two then up 3 more.

Yeah, my partners parents live in Ontario, and they're complaining about their Gas prices at just over a dollar. My partner told them "If you think thats bad, come live with us for a week and you'll be happy to get back home!" Seriously, there needs to be a cap on prices and soon. At this rate, nobody will be buying Gas anyway because they won't be able to afford it!

They tried this before and nothing happen. Where I live, gas has reached $3.46 a gallon, I think. Gas consumption in my state has gone down, yet the prices are still going sky high. But, I know they tried boycotts before and there are still tons of people who didn't know or don't even care. We have one station selling gas for $7 a gallon. But, that's for 100 octane gas. One lady was using it to gas up her Ferrari. But, she says that if you have to ask about the price of gas, you shouldn't be driving a Ferrari. :)

That is true if you got the money to pay $7.00 a gallon but for the average person gas is getting too expensive hell if i had a ferrari i woudl not complain either

Yeah I got that email too. Does anyone realy think it would make a difference? Now if people didn't buy gas for weeks at a time or something like that then it might make a difference. To me it's something I need and I'm not going to complain about it because it won't do any good. I may not drive as much but oh well, I can just stay home.

The price of gas is un-freaking-real! I can honestly say that this method of boycott isn't going to make a real difference because you're not actually boycotting the product, you're boycotting the day. In the end you will use the same amount, either the days before filling up or the days after, and therefore giving the oil companies just what they expect. A better "boycott" would be to use public transportation or at least ride with others to and from work that day. Unfortunately, most of North America isn't willing to give up their privilege of driving their car and will therefore continue to be slaves to the large oil companies.

This will not really have much impact, because if you have a car, then you have to buy gas for it occasionally. The oil companies know this, and they pretty much have the upper hand. It would be better if there was and alternative fuel that could be used, so as to eliminate our dependence on oil and gas.

You are right but a one day shortfall might make them think about raising prices at the pump.

Gas prices are ridiculous. I don't see any traveling in my future. I have already cut and pasted this into my email and sent it out. I'd be willing to send this a million times over if it works. Heres to hoping

ABSOLUTELY!! count me in. I am so tired of this. Why this cannot be regulated is beyond me. I heard that for the 1st Quarter of this year EXXON reports "PROFITS" of 390 BILLION!!! dollars ! now that is just greed! I will walk before I buy a drop of gasoline from EXXON Mobil ever again. I will buy from the little independants even thought they have to pay more. I have nothing against a business being successful and turning a profit... but $390 BILLION in 4 months! Give me a break! that is just plain Greed and they are laughing at us puppets out here still playing and supporting their greed. SO YES on May 15th you can bet I will NOT buy a single drop of gasoline and I will send this to all of my email buddies and MYlot contacts (about 200 people! so I hope it puts a dent in their profits for 2nd quarter!
