Living In A World Of Telepaths

Could you imagine living in a world where EVERYONE was telepathic, i.e. NO secrets, NO lies, No duplicity. Could we cope? How would it change the world as we know it? Would it make life easier or more difficult? Remember nothing is hidden, even politicians wouldn't be able to hide the truth. Your enemy would know exactly where you are coming from, what you are thinking and what you are planning BUT you will know exactly what he's thinking TOO What do you reckon? Would you be able to live in a completely TELEPATHIC World?

I think I would probably die. That would be like being public property and being raped every second, every minute, every day, every month, every year till you die. You can't even do a thing but stand (or lie down rather, since you won't have the energy) there and be raped. What a horrible thought. :P

My thoughts couldn't be dirty any more everyone would be reading them and thinking You Dirty Devil! I don't think we'd get used to it EVER! It would be nice if I had it and no one else had it LOL..

Wolfie if only you could read my mind :P:P. Naw i would not want everyone knowing my thoughts because I would be in big trouble most of the time. plus think of how cluttered your mind would get if you were in a crowded place. The voices would drive you mad!!!! No thanks wolfie. Stay out of my mind!! XXX

One thing is for sure in a telepathic world there wouldn't be any politicians .. hahahaha .. they never tell the truth do they .. and we would all know their guilty little secrets hehehhe I'm not sure I would want to know everything someone else was thinking .. even the most humble of thoughts could be quite hurtful to someone over hearing it .. I think if we were all telepathic there would be a HUGE business creating blocking devices ..

It would be absolutely horrible if we lived in a telepathic world. I love the old saying 'you can't be hung for what you think' and I think it's great. I've thought about your discussion topic before (blimme you're telepathic) and always been soooo glad that people can't read your mind and your thoughts. I think I would have been hung a million times by now lol!

If only I was a telepath it would have be real fun! Imagine, nothing is hidden from me!! But living in a world where each one is a telepath would have been really not worth living. I'm not much worried though coz this is not possible in the real world. Still, nano technology may have the power to make this happen some day. who knows? This made me recall that one day I went to see a telepath who told me that I'm gonna be very famous one day. I was surprised to know that but he has made me think of different ways leading to fame. Did you meet any telepath recently?

I do not think I would like this at all. Part of our make up is to be able to protect ourselves and sometimes the odd lie is a way of doing this. I have so many thoughts racing round my head all the time I think I would drive everyone mad. I would not like to be able to hear what everyone is thinking either, apart from politicians. It should be compulsory that they are wired up on a daily basis to a telepathic machine so we can hear what they are really thinking or plotting. Now that would be interesting. I wonder who would stand for parliment if this ever came true? Good discussion Wolfie!!+

we are living in such a fast world, that we dont try to tap into all of our senses. I think when we really relax our minds that we can tap into our sixth sense. I do believe some have that abilty more so then others. We have alot to explore in these areas. I would like to believe that the power would always be used for good.

You have thought about this... good, but I remember one movie I have seen before years! In which the main character become suddenly able to see and hear other's inside hidden things which they really did not express or say! And it was shocking and disturbing for him to pass through all such: Now think what would happen if the whole world would be able to get this kind of energy!? I think that why we are thinking this way? Because we are feeling that everything said is not right? And all are playing with others? The truth is hidden always behind?

In one way it would be hugely refreshing. You would have to be truthful, not only to everyone around you, but to yourself. Now that would send you straight on a path to enlightenment!!! That's if it doesn't kill you first. LOL.

ohhh..that would be soooo cool. But you know what, I don't think this world will survive if there are no secrets. Imagine how many people will fight, if there are no secrets. If your partner thought another girl pretty or another guy hunky, dont' you think it would start a jealous fit if you knew about it. Or if you're partner wanted to kick your butt for not cleaning the house or mowing the lawn, and you knew about it, don't you think it would start a fight? Or if your boss asked you to do something, and you thought to yourself that he can do it himself, you have plenty of things to do without him adding up to it. and since your boss can read your mind, he'd know it and you might end up getting fired. Even the petty little things would be cause for arguments simply just because you found out. It would be nice to have a completely telephatic world, where there are no secrets but in the end, i don't think it will be fruitful at all.

Telepaths - telepathic world
Well, we'll gonna have the cons and pros if that will happen. But as what I am used to in our world that we are having right now, I would rather not live in a telepathic world. I think that sounds aberrant. I don't want my thinking to be expose to any one. I really need my thoughts compose and confidential. And would gladly let it out if only I would like to verbalize them. The world will be in trouble if we are going to have a telepathic place.

Have you ever read "1984" by George Orvell? I can picture something like that happening if the world was telepathic. They could get some kind of government like that and then they would always know who was going to revolt or cause an uprising and kill them before it happened. That kind of government could be in power forever that way. And then think of Minority Report - there were telepaths in that movie/book. Could you really ethically arrest people for crimes they didn't commit yet? It would be such a weird world.

Ohh it would be so tough on all of us. Only one thing would have been good for society about the politician. They could not do wrong thing because general people would know them and next time they will not get any vote. It would be so hard with friends, family and dealing with other people. It's like ohhh gosh you think about me like that!

could you imagine living in a world without PRIVACY? now i know why we weren't given telepathic powers - look at all what you will be missing: privacy - hell, i don't want my neighbors to know that i'm banging some cute chick at home! the thrills - if you know what everyone else's is thinking then there wouldn't be the thrills of asking questions about certain topics like love. the games - if you know what a poker player has in his hands then there would be no pleasure in playing at all because you already know what the outcome would be. i'd rather live in a telekinetic world. now i don't need the remote control anymore. ;)

I think we'd end up all wearing white, and everything would become boring and dull. Art and such would simply become mere habit rather then decor or inspiring. People in power would be revealed, and people without power would never gain any advantages, so everyone would just kind of sink down to the same level, until a general consensus was eventually reached that people would be assigned duties to fulfill our necessary needs. Nobody would argue, since they wouldn't be able to get away with anything, and so they'd just go along with it. Life would eventually become an emotionless dystopia where nobody has the will to fight. It would rank pretty high among dystopias, at least. It wouldn't be anything Orwellian, and it wouldn't be as hedonistic as Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. But it would be mostly boring. Secrets are what gives people interest in life. While it would be wonderful to have no more competition, people would become disinterested and detached without any mystery to life. As you can probably tell, I've thought about this a lot, since I used this topic as a short story for a creative writing project one time, and I was planning to revive it if I ever take an Intermediate Fiction Writing class, except that this class is never offered at a reasonable time of day. Also, it would be irritatingly noisy, because people's thoughts are a jumbled stream of amassing thoughts, unclear and disconnected at times. It would be so confusing we'd all fall down from migraines.
