I am just leaving my office at the moment and will join mylot after a while. It has been more than 3 hours after the office timing we are here due to an urgency. Well, I have seen here some colleagues who are habitual of sitting late. Upon enquiring some of them are even insisting to sit a couple of hours more lol. I don't think it is good to sit after office hours. There can be a bad effect even on one's domestic life too. How do you think? Do you think it is good to sit late in office or work place for time passing? How late sitting effected your home life? Are you good with this habit?

While work is a necessary part of most people's lives....in my opinion, the REASON we work is to maintain/better our family lifestyle......if we spend the majority of our daily life engrossed with work then the family that you initially were trying to make better is now suffering because they are missing one important component---YOU!

I won't stay at office when the time is up. I don't think it is a good habit. In my opinion, we need to enjoy the life, balance the work and life. People couldn't be crowded by work. In fact, if I don't finish the work today, I will leave them tomorrow. Of course, the work I left are not very urgent. :) It is quite normal that we couldn't finish the work on time, maybe you are so busy, maybe you have to wait for the replies from others, ect. The pressure on work is really suffocating now, we need to learn to relax, don't bring the pressure on work into our private time. We are free when it is time for going back. You are also important to your family. A really successful man knows how to enjoy its work and life.

yes, it will be good for one to leave office premises, as fast as he/she can. there are so many things that we can do with the free hours. if i am avoiding the rush hours at the streets, i can always go to the mall and buy some important things for the home. this will a good favor which i will be doing for the ones who will be waiting for me to come home.

Well I didn't work much in an Office only when I had to do wages or other Paperwork but I used to be on the road sometimes 12-13 hours a Day and no I was not paid overtime and I was not thanked for it either but I loved my Job and there was times that as an Area Manager it needed to be done but it just seemed to get worse because the Company was cutting down on Managers and that and basically expecting the Managers that where left to keep going

I have enjoyed staying late at some of my positions, and since my husband usually works second shift it did not hurt our relationship. I cannot do it now, even if I wanted to because I work a second job. To me it is certainly better than going to sit at a bar and talk.

O I see! Hmmm you have given me other point to be thought, better to sit in office rather to go at bar. Thanks for comments.

there are various reasons for sitting late at the office. one is, they don't look forward to being home early. the second one can be that, they are letting the time off for the rush hour. this is understandable considering how difficult it is to manage through traffic of people and vehicles. the third one is, they are waiting for the start of happy hours at the bar. we can never tell until they, tell us the truth or we go with them as they leave the office premises.

I think that it is not just good to overstay in the office if one makes a habit out of it. It is okay if one do that once in a while but just not almost everyday. I have learned to do this and live a balance lifestyle which means spending quality time with my family and in developing my interests or hobby.

I am on salary so I get paid the same whether I leave late or on time. I am a teacher so as long as I am prepared for the next day I do not have to stay late. My wife also works and I usually get home before she does. Sometimes I will stay late if I am on mylot responding to discussions!

Well when I used to work in an office when time was up to go home unless I was working overtime then not only me but everyone else in the office would go and not stay any longer than they had to so I do not really understand why others would be staying back.

Oh, don't tell me about this one. This is such an annoying habit. I think it's really spoiling your personal life if anyone does it. I mean work or no work, I would always leave on time. One of my friends started a new job recently and she was only supposed to be at her office till 4:30, but she stays over till like 7:00. I asked her why and she said she wanted to make a good impression, so that's why she stays late. I told her that it won't make a good impression at all. Just like it's professional to come on time, it's also professional to leave on time, so that your boss knows that you have a life outside of work too. But she didn't listen and now when she leaves early, it's weird for her, and she has to take appointments with candidates even after her work time. I told her, it's her fault, because she stays over and now people expect her to stay over, and it seems weird to leave on time. But now, it's affecting her social life, because recently she couldn't make it to a friend's wedding because of it. I just think it's really dumb to give in extra time when you're not paid for it. I would never do that.

I am not a workaholic by any means. But if I have something I would like to get done in a day, I will stay later to do it. I generally work a 9 hour day, even though I am a salaried employee. But al the things I want to do will still be there the next day. If I have a deadline, I may have to work late to meet it... but I don't make a habit of it.

i think that's a bad habit.. eventhough i have not started working yet.. but i think we should use our extra hours to do something better.. i would prefer to go back home.. take a warm bath.. and relax myself.. rather than sitting late in the office for no purposes.. right? ... anyway.. it's okay if you want to stay late in the office.. maybe you think home gives you more pressure? haha.. it's not really a bad habit in my opinion.. i think it depends on individual.. and if you prefer at the office.. then .. go on with what you're doing =)

I don't think it is good to sit late in office. It doesn't mean that you are hard working but only of low efficiency towards your job. So just leave after office hours if your work has been completed and do some other meaningful things.

When I was sill working I would sometime stay late is I had something I really wanted to finish, or if it had to be done by the next day. I would never stay late if it was not absolutely necessary. I knew a lot of people that because they did not want to go home as they had unhappy home-lives.

I have a child to hurry home to, so I usually leave work as soon as I can. However, if someone has to stay to finish something, I always volunteer to be nice. If it were a situation where no one has to stay, I certainly wouldn't. My off-work time is very important to me. I think we all need time to rest, recharge, be with our loved ones. And ultimately I think working so much that you never have time to relax affects not only your personal life, but your quality of work as well.

24 hours make a day & this is so limited time to complete all activities that our mind want. Job/office work is a one of resposibility from a lot for a man. If one sit late after office timing then it will be so hard to complete one's schedule. No doubt, it is a bad habbit.

I never stay late after my work is done. I like to hurry home to be with my family. I like to spend as much time as I can with my children. I don't want to waste a minute just sitting at work.
