I did 28 hours of not sleeping ...before and went back to my regular 6-7 hours a night. I felt tired for about 2 weeks. How long continuously you did no sleep? The longest. How many days you sleep after that?

Well during the golf war i was serving in the army, and i did not sleep for about 52 hours, yes i know it sounds crazy, and it is crazy. But there was an emergency declared in israel and i helped in a factory that made soda powder and other things that could help if we had chemical attack. I know that today i would never want or could go through that again. I do sleep for only 3 hours every night, but 52 hours without sleep, is too much.

there are times when it becomes necessary for us to sacrifice sleep for our safety and to those of the ones we love. this is a sacrifice for a good cause. it is good that you had your share of it. you know that when it is called for, you are among those who have the capacity to do more than what others usually can do.

The longest I can say that I have gone without sleep is about 48 hours on a long weekend meditation retreat. We were using meditation techniques of stilling the mind and focusing on just the breathing (a form of Zen meditation) but the mind was awake at all times. I went through phases of drowsiness every now and again. The weekend ended in the early hours of Monday morning (around 5am) and I hadn't been in bed since the Friday night. I drove home (about 200 miles) feeling fine and then carried on my normal sleep patterns from then and never felt any ill-effects at all. This was my first personal proof that meditation is around 80% as good as natural sleep. I found that if I worried about it at all during the weekend I would suddenly feel extremely tired, so my mind was playing a big part in this too. Since that weekend, I have found I don't need as much sleep as I thought I used to need. :)

good wat a different experience u have told about. actually i have read about this in books , but really wondered how far it could be true.its soo nice that mediatation can actually help one in calming the mind as much as good sleep. good luck!!

Infact i didn't sleep for almost 5 days during my exams... Entire year, i enjoyed a lot.. doing mischiefs, playing pranks, hanging-out with friends, watching movies.. etc.. And when the exam approached, my asss got on fire... And in general, unless and until our asss is not on fire, we are not going to study.. lolz... It was really a nightmare for me for those 5 days... My eyes got swelled and dark circles appeared under them... I still can never forget those 5 dreadful days of my life.. But the good news is that i managed to clear out those exams at the first attempt...:D

Sleeping has been a puzzling phenomenon for me for about a decade now, Augustta! Lately i have been staying more awake than earlier when i was sleeping more. During my engineering studies, I used to sleep for 10-12 hours quite often specially on weekends. My longest continuous sleep was of 18 hours in the year 2000 with many more than 15 hours sleeps and with a break of half an hour, my longest was 30 hours in the year 2003. Lately, I was taking medicine for an allergy and that too on insistence of my wife and I felt that if I didn't take medicine it will hurt her. After i stopped taking medicine, my sleep was gone:-) I have stayed awake for about 35-40 hours several times during last 6 weeks and the longest was around 51 hours (these are durations which i can say with surety and i have noted in conscious state), two weeks back. I have been sleeping just for 3,4 hours after each spell of insomnia. I don't want to take medicine as i don't like them and believe in natural cure. I am getting better week by week now. Interesting fact is that, sometimes, I get refreshed with just 10-15 minutes of sleep. I don't know where it is heading to in coming weeks and months. I just hope that it gets better:-)

The exhausted time for me if several years ago. From the morning to the second after, include 2 hours sport in the first after and 4 hours on the train. But I only slept around 6 hours the next day. The time I feel exhausted was 2 days later.

Like I already mentioned , I am a Vet working for a Stud Farm in India, where we breed thoroughbreds for racing purpose. I often need to spend 24 hours without sleep during my peak breeding season, when my mares they do deliver the foals and at the same time I am busy in breeding them again. This is the time when we have maximum number of horses on the farm practically of all ages. That is from day old foal to the adult horses! There are 300 horses in all, so naturally something or other comes as an emergency and I need to keep myself awaken till the case is settled! I have woken up few times for 36 hours continuously , while treating the cases of Colic in horses. Conservative treatment of this condition takes lot of personal attention and one has to monitor the horse on hourly basis other wise the case may turn bad and end into a fatality ! One incident I remember when we have to export a horse to Ireland! During that period I practically had to keep myself wakened because the flight was delayed by some 12 hours and we were already awakened 36 hours, thus made the total to 48 hours! I remember very well that after returning from the Airport which was about 200 Kms from my Farm , I immediately went to bed after having a Cup of tea and I slept for 8 hours and there after I was normal. I didn't feel much of after effects! This may be because, my body has got accustomed to such things and must have taken it easy?! Thanks for initiating such an interesting topic! All the best!

I haven't slept until now 3 AM sunday. that's the longest time I am fully awake nonstop. I bring work home and can't take my mind off it at all. But now I'm ready to sleep hehe well it's 3 AM now. I'll wake up at 10 that should be enough sleep.

Hello, augustta,I think the lonest time i have not sleep was only 24 hours,it happend when i went camping with my friends when i was studying high school, after that i had slept for the whole day to catch up.Bascially i must sleep everyday,if not,i cannot really concentrate myself and i will not know what i am doing. That was the only experience i had not slept in one single day.

I have been without sleep more than 24 hours quite a few time. But the longest was in a rail journey from Agra to Thiruvananthapuram. It was a Christmas season and the train was very crowded. My ticket was not confirmed with a berth, so I got no seat also. I was constrained to stand at the isle for more than 40 hours. I did not even sit for these 40 hours. It was an unique experience. After 40 hours journey the train reached a place known as Kottayam and then only I got a seat. Only 4 hours journey was left. I slept comfortably in a berth. This was my longest hours without any sleep.

Hi Augustta, Once in my younger days I went out with friends and stayed up two and a half days. I was at a party that lasted a couple days. I could never do that now. I get tired after a full day.

I think I've done about the same hours than you more or less. But everytime I did it the last hours are like hell.. I'll be also tired for some days. I need to sleep at least a coulple of hours (2-3) so I can have a normal day after.

I was working on a multiple slide show presentation that needed music sycronized with it. I was up 2 days working my regular job and then up all night 2 nights in a row because of the deadline. I was much younger then, and sure couldn't do that now. I slept about 12 hours straight after that.
