I have always wanted a nice calendar holder to put on my kitchen wall. I needed a large one as my calendars are large. I just love Greg Olsen’s paintings. We cant afford to purchase the painting but every year, my husband buys me a calendar of Greg Olsen’s paintings. Each year just after Thanksgiving, Hallmark gets in their Christmas things and each year, they have the most beautiful wooden calendar holders. Each Year, I go and look at them and long to own one. The problem is that they cost around $60. That is just too rich for my blood. This year, my husband made a lot of our Christmas gifts. I was surprised with everything that he made me. He made the a beautiful Purple martin house witch I have posted already. He also made me a calander holder just like the ones that I had longed for at Hallmark. He painted it green to match my border in the kitchen. I just love it. It is even nicer that the ones that I had seen at Hallmark because he took the time to make it for me. I will always treasure it. He did not have a pattern for it. He said that he went and looked at the one that I had expressed interest in and went home and drew his own pattern. He is so talented and I love him very much. I have added a photo of the calendar holder. Homemade Gifts are always the best to receive and to give. They show the givers love in a way that store purchased ones cannot do.

My partner once made me a photo frame for a cherished photo of my kids. He took his time and it looked wonderful. He managed to break three pieces of glass when looking for one to fit, but he found one finally and put it all together. I loved it. That evening, I proudly hung it on the wall in our bedroom right before we went to bed. As we sat up reading, it came away from the wall and fell to the ground where the frame broke into 4 pieces and the glass smashed. All it needs is the 4 sides putting back together and a new piece of glass fitting, but I've been waiting for that for 2 years lol. I love the Calendar Holder that your husband made. it looks just wonderful. I agree that when things are made with love, they mean so much more to us. It shows what time and effort some people will give in order to show their loved ones just how loved they really are.

I am with you all the way on that. The thought and effort go a very long way. I even enjoy some of the goofy things my hubby comes up with. I have a caddy for the table that I can put napkins in. It is rustic, made from a salvaged tin container, and it is great for what I use it for. That was a lunch time project one year.LOL recycler

It means more to me that he gave his time to make me something, That means more to me than any store bought gift ever could.

That is so sweet. One year we couldn't afford birthday presents for each other so my husband made me a necklace and a matching bracelet. It was so special to me and I will always treasure it.

I agree- Nothing beats a home made, hand made gift- All the love and thought that goes into the gift is worth more than any store bought gift- I also make a lot of gifts- I also usually buy something to go along with the hand made item. I have several friends who just can’t wait to see what I came up with to make for each holiday. It’s a great feeling- It is great being crafty! Most of the time my sig. other and I make the gifts together- He cuts them out and helps put things together (wood crafts). What a great gift your hubby gave you!

I do agree with you because its not the money that counts its the effort and thoughts that count.I do love to receive gifts that are homemade because i know they give time, effort and care for the gift they will give. And i feel i am special person for that person.

That is so awesome that your hubby made you a calander holder. I wish my hubby would get out his woodworking tools and make me one but I highly doubt he will be doing that any time soon.

You are so fortunate to have a hubby who isn't all thumbs. My husband loves to work with his hands, but his thumbs get in the way. I don't hinder him from doing anything he wants to try. If he would spend more time doing projects, he would only refine his skills.

I am very envious of people with creative genius. I have three left thumbs. I have knitted some sweaters and a few embroidered letters for Christmas presents but that's about it. +

That is so sweet that he went and found one you liked and then recreated it. That is love right there. I love handamade gifts and give them whenever I can. Craft Stores must love me I tell ya. I dabble in all the crafts and never master any, but I love the look on the receipents face when they open the gift and say "You made this?" I love it. I like teaching my children that homemade gifts mean so much more than ones from the store and they are usually treasured a lot longer too.

Very very nice. My hubby is great with so many things but just isn't a wood worker-----guess I shouldn't complain though. He values the needle work I do though, and is great about finding me nice yarns, threads and fabrics at yard sales and thrift shops. I agree that homemade gifts are the best, you know that the giver has put a lot of thought and work into it. I know as I make things I usually have a specific person in mind.

That's so nice...it definitely makes your calendar an object to treasure. I try to make gifts for people too - mostly knitted things.

That is great. You have a handy, loving husband. I wish I was adept at wood working, or that my BF would think to try to make something like that.

You are so lucky you have some one that cares enough to make your presents.I have rarely been given a homemade present but I would much rather have them then a store bought one.A lot of people aren't happy unless they're getting expensive presents but they don't realize that those expensive things are cold ,not warm like the presents that are made with love.

its so sweet that your husband has made you so many things.so did my boyfriend!he likes drawing and he drew me several pics, one of them is his portrait lol.i keep the portrait pic in my purse so that i can see him every day even when he is not around me.:P yes you're definitely right.in homemade gifts we can see more devotion our partners put in than the ones they simply buy from shops.although they might be of little market value, but they mean a lot to us.:)
