If you could pick one "update" to do on your current home what would it be?

I don't mean a generic "the kitchen" or "the bath" answer. I was wondering what one item you'd add on to your home. I personally would love to add on a nice deck with a pool in my back yard. Our yard really sux here! LOL I love being outdoors and I swear I grew up with gills! What would you add onto your home or put in?

Well that's kind of tough for me. I live on the 12th floor of a high rise. There is one thing I wish the building had. I would love to have a balcony to sit on during a beautiful night or a gorgeous day. Oh well. ‹(°¿°)›

That sounds so scary to me. I would rather just stay on the ground floor.

I would add on a screened in front porch. I'm hoping to have this done next year sometime. I've lived in my home for 29 years and I don't plan on selling it to move anywhere else. I've been thinking about upgrading my home to be comfortable in my old age. I've seen how difficult it is for an elderly person to get in and out of a bath tub or to stepup or down to get in and out of the door. I just may get rid of the bathtub and convert it to a shower. I may even install a ramp to the entrance of my home. I figure if I make the modifications I'll never have to go to a nursing home. My family can see to my care in my own home with the help of a nursing service. Of course I don't know if things will pan out this way but I've shared my idea with my family and I didn't get any negative responses. What do you think of my idea?

A screened in porch and a ramp is a wonderful idea, I'd do the same thing.

Yeah that is what I would like to do also, even though we get very hot summers we do have more months in Texas than most places that we could use a pool year round and a deck to have parties and barbeques sounds wonderful.

A screened in porch would be wonderful, I could use that almost all year long ..... it's only really cold here for maybe a month.

Whoa! I thought it will be an all-around redecoration. I would have chosen my room. My mom decorated it. She picked out the color, the arrangement, and everything else. It lacks a personal touch from me. So I guess I would like to change the paint. I want it to be blue instead of white. The blue paint should be like the sky. Then I'll put glow-in-the-dark stars on my wall and ceiling. That would be awesome. From the moment on, I can say that the room is quite me, not totally me of course.

Before we had the pool put in everyone said they would keep it clean, just like they would take care of another pet...Yeah Right! Once in 5 years my daughter vacuumed it. The rest of the time I tested the water, bought chemicals, kept the PH just right, shocked it if there was algae, vacuumed it every few days. Then when you every want to sell your house old people dont want a pool people with young kids think it's dangerous. Enjoy your pool LOL. I'll get a new TV, computer or refrigerator.

I've had a pool since I was a little kid and being without one drives me nuts! I never minded taking care of the pool. I always had an automated vacuum for it, just let it run while you're in bed. Mornings, get up and skim he pool, test the levels, generally don't need anything if you have a floating dispenser for the chlorine and the pool is used often enough. If you do need to shock it or whatever just toss it in and leave it it go for the day. The last "shock" stuff we bought actuallly allowed you to swim within a few hours after shocking it now! They've come such a long ways with pool care that it's not all that hard anymore. And the better the filter the easier the care.

I would have the yard 'landscaped'. A nice deck on the back and the whole yard landscaped. I would love a few lilac bushes and maybe a few bushes that turn red in the fall. I know I need more flowers and maybe some Hostas moved around. I would love a 'wildflower' garden in my yard.Different flowers 'flowering' at different times of the year.

Demolition/Reconstruction. Just One would never do it for this house. However, I really would like a new kitchen floor.

I would add another bedroom upstairs- That is my plan anyways in the next couple of years- Our kitchen is only 1 story so I'd add the room over the kitchen- this would make it much more roomy upstairs- I'd also add a pool outside- I've got the gorgeous deck (last year) now this year I need to add the pool!

If I could do one update, I think it would be to add ceiling fans. I love having air circulating around me all times of the year. Our ceilings are concrete however (I live in a condo building). This is great for keeping noise from traveling between the floors, but makes putting the fans in a lot more work, and possibly something we have to call a professional in for....and that means more money. So for now, I'll proably just stick to adding flowers to my little balconey :-)

I'd rather add a screened in porch by the front door, that way I could sit outside without all those little gnats constantly bugging me.

We are planning to expand our front porch from an 8x8 porch to a 24x8 porch and put a roof on it plus add a ramp on the front. Then we'll screen it in to keep the mosquitos out :) I was hoping to start this summer but looking my job, we'll have to put it off another year. I'm excited to get it done

I would want a deck but I'm not that keen on swimming pools, they're a pain to keep up with.
