Flat sheets or fitted ones?

I was wresting with changing the sheets on the bed today. I have fitted sheets for the bottom sheets and sometimes they seem really hard to get on, then they don't stay on. I know hotels use flat sheets for the bottom and just tuck them under. Which kind do you prefer?

Fitted sheets drive me dingy and bats...they never seem to fit well either..sometimes too loose, sometimes too tight...but I think I prefer them than the idea of using flat sheets for the bottom sheet

Fitted are better as long as they aren't way too big, I have a full size bed and have to rely on queen size and sometimes those are just too big.

Now,if you live in a 2 dimensional world you use flat sheets. And if you live in a 3-D world you use fitted sheets, right?

I like the fitted sheets best, but I have to buy the 'deep pocket' variety due to having a pilowtop mattress that is deeper than most. Being a nurse, I know how to make the bed with the flat sheets, but I find that they wrinkle too easily even when done correctly!

Your comment is interesting, since you do know the proper way to make a bed with flat sheets, but still prefer the fitted. That tells me a lot. I always thought the flat sheets wrinkled and came undone too easily, but I thought it was the way I was doing it!

I always use fitted sheets on the bottom. I used to have major issues getting them to stay on my old mattress, but for some reason, after I got a different mattress, it stopped giving me problems. I don't know what it is about this one, but I've never had any trouble getting the sheets on or getting them to stay!

That's an interesting observation. Maybe a mattress does have a lot to do with it.

Its fitted sheets for me. My girls are always jumping up and down my bed. The flat sheets tend to come out of the mattress and my bed always ended up like its been hit by a hurricane.

I have to have fitted. And, I buy those clips with the elastic to put on the corners. They are a pain in the rear to put on, but worth it. I always have my husband hold the mattress up while I clip them because it's a hard job. Fitted, no question about it.

I tried those clips and threw them, the sheets and anything I could get ahold of, across the room!

LOL!!!!! They ARE a problem. And, sometimes, I don't even want to deal with them, especially if he isn't home to help.

I hate flat sheets. I only use the fitted ones. I make sure that they are deep fitting, so I don't wrestle with them trying to get them on.

I prefer fitted. They seem to stay in place better than the flat ones. The only time we use the flat ones are as blankets in the summer when it gets too hot to be under a comforter.

i prefer fitted sheets.they usually stay on a bit better though sometimes they shrink after awhile and one corner will pop off.

I know what you mean. They do seem to get smaller after so many washes. Thanks for the reply.
