Conan & Red Sonja...Will they be remade?

It's very interesting; whenever I think of some of the old movie classics, I go to check them at imdb.com, only to realize a new version is being made. Maybe it's some subconscious or telepathic communication, but that's not the point. I've recently watched Conan the Barbarian again, and was reminded of Red Sonja. I checked in at imdb.com and searched for Red Sonja and to my surprise a new Red Sonja is scheduled for a remake in 2008! I am wondering who'd play Red Sonja? If they ever make a remake of Conan who do you think the actor would be?

Aww, I just went to see about the new Conan movie, and from what I can tell, it's not even in true production. No cast, no anything but a writer-director. It was supposed to start filing in "early 2007", but it hasn't, and right now it doesn't look like it'll be getting off the ground any time soon. As for Red Sonya, it will be forced back further if Conan is pushed back as well. Would anyone be able to play Conan and Red Sonya to my taste? Nope. I've gotten used to Arnie and Brigitte, and I think it should be left that way for many years. This business of taking films that are still relatively fresh on the public's mind and remaking them is a waste of time. I haven't seen one good remake in the last five years. They're all telling the stories over again, same camera angles, same lines, nothing changes. It's a shame that actors like Sean Beane are being roped into roles in these...bores. At least wait a couple of generations before making them again! *sigh*....

Sean Bean? What have I missed? The only thing of his that I've seen lately looks at first glance like a remake of The Fugitive, but it is really a very different plot: Extremely Dangerous. And it was pretty boring, dragged out to 3 and a half hours.

You've missed the remakes of "The Hitcher" and "The Omen". Both were sad renderings. "THe Omen" was particularly sad due to the fact the Sean had to try valiantly to live up to Gregory Peck, who played Damian's father in the original. Oh, and it was scene for scene, word for word, camera angle for camera angle...a duplicate, like a bad zerox copy.

I forgot about The Hitcher. I read about it and it sounded like one to avoid. The original is a cult classic and I can't see that it would be improved by a remake. I was shocked when I heard that Sean Bean was going to be in it. I've seen him in so many good things, and he does wind up in too many bad movies, playing the villain.

I always wanted to watch the movie when Conan became king, but Arnold's busy elsewhere and I doubt there is anyone more suitable to make it. However since Conan was probably older when he became king, Arnold would probably make it when he finishes his term as governor. As for Red Sonja, I'd hope they have a better actress. Of course it was probably one of the first ones she made and the characters were barbarians, the Earth was new, and they did not have the knowledge other than kill or be killed than we had. All I know is that the actor or actress would have to be physically fit, do their own stunts, possibly an athlete, and very intelligent.

I thought about that too. Somehow I think it's hard to convince Arnold for another Conan movie, I don't know why, he hasn't been in any movies for some years. But as you said he would fit the role and it would simply be incredible. Who but Arnold could be a better Conan, and now that he has aged it would simply be perfect. I hope Conan will find the right producers and screenwriters who can convince Arnold, for yet another classic movie. I can imagine it being a huge hit!

I really hope they won't be remade. Films like those are among my guilty pleasures, tacky, clunky, and loads of fun. Classic B movies. Remakes of anything are usually terrible, and all they could do to these two is make them slicker, add lots of FX, and pump up the violence. What I notice about remakes is that they usually miss the point of the original.

Yes, but suspenful has a great idea up there. Conan has a comeback story when he's a king. He is aged. Wouldn't it be wonderful for an aged Conan to play an aged Arnold? The role would fit him perfectly and with today's technology it could be a masterpiece.
