Do you still have drive-in theaters near you?

We are moving to Ohio in two weeks. The town we are moving to still has a drive-in theater. I havent been to one since I was a teenager. I cant wait to go again. So have you ever been to one? Or are you so young that you've never even heard of one?

The city that I live in (San Jose, CA) still have a drive-in. We actually still go there quite a bit, I mean... there aren't many places that can beat $6.00 for a movie. Besides, we can bring our own food, or go out to eat before, and then head out there and just enjoy the movie in the piece and quiet of our car. My wife and I can talk to each other if we like, converse about the movie... I love Drive-ins.

Hahaha... we've already ordered out tickets for Shrek 3 online, so we'll be in the indoor theatre, but that would be a fun movie to see at the Drive-in.

We still have a drive-in theater! It plays mostly new movies, too. Ours has a playground for the children to play at until the movie starts. They also have an awesome snack bar. We turn the radio to whatever station they use--they don't have those silly "boxes" anymore that hang on the windows, remember them?

Yes, there is a drive-in here about a half hour drive away from me. We go there all the time when it is open during the spring and summer months. The kids just love to go because they get to go in their pj's and bring pillows and blankets. My kids always ask when and if they can go to the outdoor movies theater. It is so cute. It is something I was able to experience as a child and now they are able to enjoy it as well.

Unfortunately no we don't, I've never ever seen one :( but I've always wanted to go to one. What do you think about it? Is it better then a normal cinema?

they are cheaper, but sometimes the lighting is bad, like for me, i wouldn't see a scary movie at one b/c it's sometimes hard to see the screen, it's too dark!

The city I moved from in PA has a drive-in that has been there since the 50's and still up and running. I have a lot of good memories of that place, especially from when I was a teen. There is one here too, but we haven't been to it yet, even though we keep talking about it. Maybe this summer, hubby and I can go there for a 'date'. :)

We had one in Tiffin, OH. We moved and they are getting one in a town about 10 miles away. I love Drive-Ins. It is so much more relaxing to watch a movie or two in a car, than it is in a theater. Much cheaper, also. The last movie that we saw in drive-in was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I love drive-in Frech Fries! Yum

This must be an American thing right? I've never heard of a drive in theatre here in the UK, let alone having gone to one, in fact up until a few years ago our cinemas weren't even the multiplex out of town places that they are today, and to be honest they were probably a darned sight better than they are now. I do like the sound of a drive in theatre though, for novelty of it.

Oh yes, I used to enjoy going. I'd take blankets & pillows & sit on the hood leaning on the windshield & have the speaker up beside us. I generally went with my sister or a friend. Better view without the window & stuff in the way.

I went to the drive-in with my parents a couple of times when I was a little kid. I haven't seen a drive-in theater since those days.

We have 2 near me. I know this discussion is from so long ago, but I ran into a website today that reminded me... you can research the history and search for some drive-ins near (or far) from you. http://www.drive-ins.com For those of you who have never heard of them or seen them, this gives a wonderful history from 1933 on... This is one of the wonderful things some of us can share with our children. If they cannot get to one, it is a virtual way to share your history and memories.

Yes we have some around the Pittsburgh area. I haven't been to one either for a long time. They are kind of far from where I live though so that's why I never go but it would be fun to maybe go this summer.

when i lived in a bigger city we had one with like 4 screens, but it was pretty pricey, 7 bucks per person, so we had to hide people in the trunk, but now in our small city it has 2 screens and it's cheaper, it's 10 dollar per car! we love to go, it's cheap fun!

None that I know of in NY where I live, but VT had a couple. I hear one closed and one is still going. I keep bugging my husband to go. He thinks of it as the land of hippies so we don't go very often. I like it there. Take care

i havent been to a drive in theatre in years :( last time i went though i seen jurassic park and the nutty professor.. two great movies to see on the big big screen really.. huge animals and fat people on a massive screen.. awesome eh? anyways yah up here in canada we still have them floating around.. not so much in the city areas but not too far that you couldnt drive from the cities to go see the movies.. although they are dying away.. which sucks! a nice car stereo and a nice drive in theatre is so much better than a theatre you sit in.. its like your own private booth to watch your movie in with no sticky floors or wet seats or people jabbing you with their elbows etc!
