What type of gift would you prefer?

A simple or even home made gift that comes from the heart or an expensive gift with no thought put into it? An example of this I came across recently was someone bought something for themselves, decided they didn't want it after all so they decided to give it as a birthday present to someone else. It was something that wasn't even close to anything the recipient was interested in and the person only gave it to them because that way they would not have to spend more money on a present.

I have always told my husband, I prefer a flower he plucked on his way home to a bouquet of expensive roses. It's not about how much money something costs, it's the thoughts behind it. I love the things my kids make me themselves in school. I treasure the pictures they draw for me. Even the African Violet, that while pretty, is not something I would buy myself, but it's a gift of love from my boys.

Thanks for your response and this is what I am getting at. A simple present that someone has thought about is in my opinion better than a more expensive gift which is only given as the giver wishes to dispose of it.

I do not always thinks that a gift should be expensive or really different.First of all How come any one else could know that what we want and what we doesn't,Or I don't know when some one is giving me a gift what was his/her financial situation was.I like to receive flowers specially roses and chocolates as gift No matter if it is expensive or not it should have real emotions, love and feelings in it.Even if it's something simple or home made or something which price i already know i Don't care I just look for person's behavior while giving that gift if its fill with true love and true affection.Yes ,But I do not like one thing I have seen some peoples give gifts which they have already used or which they do not like personally so they decide to give it to someone as present I hate this thing and I avoid not to do it by myself too.It looks cheap.Means price doesn't really matter for me in receiving gifts whereas If I am giving it to someone I try to get something really special nice and different. As if I wish to get same gifts for me.

That is exactly what I was talking about in this case. The person who gave the gift is quite well off, bought something, didn't like it, gave it to the other person. She looked on it as a bonus - she didn't have it cluttering her house and she didn't have to spend money. It wasn't the value of the gift that was the issue, it was the attitude of the giver.

Well...it depends of the message of the gift and the reason for it. I like the suprising gifts and the price doesnt matter here. It`s more important what is the message, is there originality, what is the feeling and etc.

Thanks for your reply. I like surprises too, but I also like to know that people have thought enough to try to get something they think I would like, rather than just getting something that is cheap or convenient. I try to put a lot of thought into what I buy people.

I would much rather have a gift that came from the heart in most cases unless I was in need of something else that I just had to have. I love to feel special and be treated with respect and I love to get gifts that come from the heart, but if I truly need something and deserve to have somethingof value and we can afford it, then I would prefer to receive that and a token of love would be sufficient for me. It does not have to be worth alot of money but just something I have needed, wanted or had to have.
