Do YOU ever get OFF THE WALL responses to your DISCUSSIONS and WHAT do YOU do?

Ever post a discussion and then you get a response that is totally OFF THE WALL does not pertain to your discussion and makes no sense at all?? What do you do with such responses? Do you give them a negative rating? I mean they are not doing anything wrong they just are not responding correctly to your discussion? Perhaps they are from a foreign country and don't understand the english language, should we be more understanding of such responses or respond to them with negativity, what would you do??

I haven't lately, but when I did, I would ask something like "Do you know that you are responding to a discussion about what mood the weather puts you in?" or whatever the discussion was. Usually I do not get a response. I do not mark them negative, they may have posted for something else and somehow it went astray. I do not rate it anyway. Not negative, either.

I have tried the writing do you know what you are responding to, I never get a response back, sometimes they are blatant, most times you can't figure out what they are saying, thanks for your contribution as always my friend.

I have thought about people not understanding or communicating very well due to there being a language barrier. And I am sure that they are probably here to learn more in the area of English. So, those off the wall responses, I have to try to figure out. Are they just misunderstanding or are they answering my discussion with a copy and paste. It helps to go through their responses to determine that. If it is a copy and paste...then that is a definite report. But if it is a language barrier, I just leave it alone.

i agree, i do just the same thing, but sometimes it's neither, sometimes the person just decides to post something about a totally different topic and i think they do it just because, but who knows it could be a mistake... In any case, those ones i just rate negatively, the others i do like you.

Hey Marcie, I dont' like to give negative ratings unless it is necessary, it could be numerous reasons to such a response and the language barrier could be one and you should not be given a negative if you are just trying to learn the language, my Mother used to say, do on to others what you would want done to you, I live and breathe by that statement. Thanks for contributing, I truly appreciate.

I'll tell you, every response I've seen like that was someone 'cheating' they just pasted the 'response'. I do a search and find where they most likely copied it from and then report them including the link - I've seen hundreds of these. Example 6 different mylot IDs did this on over 200 discussions that I know of. At this point about half of them have been reported and removed.

I hate cheating but don't have the time to research it, you go girl, although I appreciate the responses but when they are so totally off the wall you begin to wonder, thanks for contributing my friend, it is always appreciated.

I know it is against myLot policy to name names so I won't, but the discussion link is here, see if you can guess it, a hint, it is the last page, either the last response or almost the last one ... http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1080646.aspx?p=3

For every discussions I posted, there is always a poster or two who will give me a nonsensical responses. I normally will ask for clarification but they never replied back. I remembered commenting on one poster that he didn't understand my thread. He replied back stating he understood what my discussion was all about. But he was not making any sense at all. Eventually, I decided to skip that kind of responses and move on to the next one. If I'm not in the best mood, that poster might not be lucky. I will rate them negative right away. Otherwise, I will leave it and never bothered to rate nor comment back.

I am apprehensive to post negatives just because I would not like it done to me if the person I was responding to was not fluent in the English language and misconstrued my response. Thanks for contributing, it is always appreciated.

I haven't gotten any like that yet. Mine have all stayed on topic. I think we are supposed to give a - rating. But, I'm like you, they might have misunderstood the question. I haven't given anybody a - rating yet.

Oh no you should'nt be understanding if they can't be bothered to learn the english language and write properly, but then having said that there are a few who try hard to write coherently. Off the wall responses I quite often specialize in, because it is fun, and other times I am as serious as pig shite!

I haven't really had responses that are really off the wall but I have had a few that were a little off the point. But I just move on. I'd rather not be negative about it. After all some day I might be distracted and make no sense either.

Depends on how happy I am when I come across it. But first I will try to understand if it is just the language barrier. If that guy is trying to say something relevant but fail, I will be nice and respond accordingly. If not I will ask for clarifications. Otherwise, if he is obviously a spammer pasting some nonsensical reply from elsewhere, I will minus him for sure. If I report him, I won't reply. Otherwise, I will probably make some snide remarks and have fun with it. :P

I dont get too many of them, it annoys me though because it seems as if the person has not read my discussion properly. Sometimes i will comment back, or ask what they mean when I get a response that makes no sense to me. I dont rate them with a negative though, because something like this could happen to anybody. I have seen some responses though in other discussions that are completely geered off of subject. And I wonder Did they even read the discussion at all???? Then it just can seem as if the person were replying for the sake of replying to earn a few cents and not paying attention to the content of the discussion! This is a good discussion I have rated it + very good!! thanks

i found some users here "singing out of tune" when they respond to discussions and never did i rate them negatively. i was just telling them honestly that their comments are not relevant to the topic being discussed. in fact, i discovered last night one new member who has earned 936 points just in one day! i checked his profile and found out that his responses are all the same. he copied and pasted his response in discussions posted few months ago even if his responses were off the wall. i made comments telling him that what he was doing was spamming and was against mylot rules. and now mylot deleted all his discussions and responses. but he is still around. he is krish147258.

I've gotten quite a number of off the wall replies that really have nothing to do with the discussion and honestly can't figure out what the heck they are trying to say..and it really doesn't have anything to do with a person maybe not understanding the question or not speaking the language...in any case I just tend to ignore them

Yeah I feel the same way, you want to ignore them but you appreciate them taking the time to respond to you since there are so many other discussions they could respond.

I haven't had this happen to me. But I would try to figure out what the person was talking about. Or why they put that response there. I have seen a few on other peoples discussions where some one just typed a bunch of letters that didn't make any sense. such as like this gjkfdhgfjkgkkfdl. I figured they were just trying to get the number of responses up.

Well I think if it was a jibberish of letters I would think it was a spammer just trying to get money from myLot by the responses and yes, I would respond with a report to myLot for such offenses, but if someone just wrote something out of the blue, I would pass thinking they did not understand the discussion. Thanks for responding, it is always appreciated.

I guess it depends on how lenient I feel that day! LOL. If it is a silly response, I might roll my eyes and totally ignore it and not rate it at all. If it is tacky or uncalled for, I rate it negatively. I might have one time said, why did you bother to respond?, but that's pretty strong...I usually wouldn't do that. If I feel they deliberatly responded with what they wanted to without any connection to the discussion, I'd rate them negative.

If it's totally off-subject, I would rate it "-", that's what the rating system is for. The people who go around just posting garbage to decent discussions shouldn't be rewarded with payment for it.

I do get such responses. I would find it interesting that the person would give such a response and ignore the person. What did I do? I will go into the person's profile to see if he is trying to be funny and react accordingly. It is either a plus or negative for his effort.

i haven't had any truly off the wall ones yet (knock on wood) but i've had a few i don't think even read the topic before they started replying. if i got a weird one though,i'd probably just thank them for their response, and leave it at that.i wouldn't mark them negative or anything though.
