Hey Guys (gals too) Do You Put The Toilet Seat And Lid Down When You Are Done

Okay after answering a friends discussion I got the idea for this one. My husband's mom taught him quite well, not only does he put the seat down when he is done but also the lid. I wish someone had taught my dad and brothers to do that. So do you put the seat and lid down or are you a slacker (that's what I call my hubby and his brother when they forget)

I've made it a habit in my house to nag at the guys if they've forgotten to put the lid down. I caught one of the cats drinking out of the toilet one day shortly after I put a cleaning tablet in the tank. I told the guys that they can't leave the seat/lid up because the cats will get sick. Not to mention I could fall in if I went in the middle of the night.

It has. It's very rare that I find the lid up nowadays. I'm glad they actually listen to me. I don't think they'd want to listen to me screaming if I fell in or found a sick cat somewhere in the house.

I am glad it worked. As for the screaming sometimes that's the only way they hear us

Oh Kris I hate falling in too. Thank goodness that has not happened in a long time. Has telling the guys that the cats will get sick helped?

Hi Sassy. We ALWAYS leave the lid down because the feathered fiends dive down the "hole" and we are terrified they will get sucked away. So the lid stays firmly shut, just in case we let them out and forget it is up. Is supposed to be better feng shui too lol.

Hi Sassy :-). Glad you like the avatar. I am the Foxy Lady in some areas of my web incarnation. We recently had some brambles, which had been growing for twelve years to my knowledge, maybe longer and this ilttle fella was in the brambles. Sort of appropriate, we thought, and he scrubbed up well lol. As to the birdies, yes we do have to be very careful. We have had to re-cement the air grill as they had almost pecked their way into the ventilation shaft . . . Honest, I don't know why it is supposed to work in feng shui but you should keep your loo seat firmly closed and it is supposed to stop your water literally going down the drain. However, goldfish are meant to attract money too but our just cost us money. They trashed their filter again . . .

Brambles? Is that like sticker bushes? He is fitting though So your birdies are safely tucked in? How does Gabs ever survive there I thought she was not very fond of birds? Water down the drain hhmmmm I don't need that, my water bill is high enough My kids like gold fosh but they keep ending up in the ........

Hi Shelagh, I like your new advatar. No we wouldn't want your feathered friends to be sucked away. Better feng shui, I have never heard of that

I always have the lid down and when I got married I had to teach my hubby that I liked it down so now he puts it down when he is done of course he flushes it first. I know when I have company they always leave it up but I don't want to say anything because I don't want anyone think I' crazy or something I just like to have them down.

Oh thank goodness my mother in law did all the hard work for me lol. As for company I don't say anything either, unless it is my dad or my brothers. But really if you use someone's bathroom and the seat and lid are down when you get in there why would you not put it back that way when you are done?

I would be more than happy to put the seat down, but to date I haven't been able to find one that I could attach to a tree.

Ever since my dad has taken ill we I included now keep the lid down at all times. he can't stand to use the toilet so we keep it down for him mainly. But before he took ill the whole thing was down. The lid and the top. I don't want my Buster drinking from the toilet. He never has and I don't want him to start either. Thanks and have a great day/evening. GRUMPY GRANDPA BOB !!~

Why are you grumpy today Grandpa Bob? That good of a day? I bet that your wife is happy that you have incentive to keep the seat down. I agree let's not let Buster start that bad habbit. Have a good evening Grandpa Bob

Ever since I can remember I've put the lid down (unless there isn't one) after using the toilet. No need for me to put the seat part back down as it's already down to begin with being I'm a girl and all. :) I had a bad experience when I was little. I fell in the toilet due to the lid and seat being left up. I had THOUGHT the seat part was down, as the light wasn't on in the bathroom, and as I went to sit down I fell in. :P It scared the crap out of me LOL, and after that incident I've made sure to check before sitting on a toilet.

Oh how scary. Growing up with my dad and brothers I use to check too. Maybe if guys fell in a few times they would be more apt to put the seat down. What do you think?

Hmm, I don't know. I think that it's possible, but not probable. For most of them I don't think falling in the toilet will teach them to close the lid. They'd probably just get a kick out of it instead. LOL

Honey you are spoilt! I don't think my other half or my son know how to put the toilet seat down - even though I have tried to teach them many times! It makes me want to scream! xxx

Uh oh!! This is one of those loaded questions, right? I once heard a response to this question (from a guy of course) that went: "Why should I put the seat down? Do YOU (directed at girl) put the seat UP when you're done, so it'll be ready for me?" Of course, that's unfair all around, but I think the point is made. That said, I'd like to boast that I (male) DO put the seat (and lid) down when I finish. AND, if I happen to 'drip' on the rim, I clean it up. Good topic!

Lolol Good Job you are part of an elite club. And you clean up after yourself so you get bonus points. Now if you happen to 'drip' on the floor do you clean that as well?

I do. I used to live with 3 guys and I ALWAYS had to put the seat down before using the toilet. I'm pretty anal though, I even want the LID down after I'm done. I've read a lot of studies that say if you flush your toilet with the lid up, you may as well be brushing your teeth with toilet water since a plume of undetectable bacteria and water vapour erupts from your toilet bowl everytime you flush. Besides that, my dog has a tendency to be quite lazy, she'd rather walk into the bathroom and take a toilet drink than walk up the stairs to drink out of her nice clean water dish.

That's not anal, and you are right it is much healthier for us. I definately do not want to brush my teeth with toilet water, yuck. I don't know that your dog is lazy, I think dogs and cats have some sort of fasination with toilets

yes I always put it down but as one of my friends argue why is it men should have to put it down? why shouldnt women have to put it up after all its built with hinges for being up.

Yes I make sure I put both down when I am done. I've been doing that since I was a little one. I try to get my kids to do it but often it's a struggle to get them to lift both seats let alone close them when they are done. I'll keep on them though.

I always put the lid down when i am done it is habit with me i am a gal so i dont got to worry about putting the seat down. But my other half is very good about putting both down when he is done so you see we both have well trained men lol. The kids are another story they never remember to put both down. One night half asleep i got a rude awakening got thing the kids do flush i went to set on the toilet not really thinking where i was half asleep and got a wet butt now i look before i leap so to speak lol. Woke me right up too it did. lol
