Artist Trading Cards, would like to start making and swapping them with friends

After starting a discussion about flowers and from the responses I received it gave me a wonderful idea. Something I had been wanting to do for some time and would like to know if any others would be interested. Have any of you heard of artist trading cards aka ATC? I have a made a hub on it if you would like to see a little of what it is about. http://hubpages.com/_hotd/hub/Artist_Trading_Cards. I would love to learn how to make them and trade with some of you. There are several ways we could do this, we could discuss themes, make one at a time and show each other our progress, we could choose to do something about our countries or gardens (flowers ;) almost anything we choose. I would suggest we make a blog and each person interested would register, this way each of us can post in the blog and keep updated of each persons progress, we can also discuss what we have learned and methods we've used, alternatively we could make a yahoo group. I do think the blog idea is the best for now, depending how big it gets. The idea behind ATC's is to swap with other artists, which would mean to send each other, because of privacy issues I understand that some would be hesitant to give out their address, thats fine it does mean you cannot participate, just share your creations with us on the blog. Which brings me to another point, if we do get started we need to think about a name for a blog, any idea's there? If you have any further idea's please leave them here and let me know.

I *love* making and swapping ATCs. I started with this addiction when I partcipated frequently at postcardx.net and nervousness.org - before finding these sites, I had no idea what an ATC was, let alone how to make them. lisavolrath.com also offers great explainations about how to make them and what they're used for. I think creating a site specifically for swaps is a great idea, but there are so many of them out there in Yahoo! Groups, myspace.com groups, msn groups, livejournal.com communities, wetcanvas.com and other places that I wonder if it would get lost in the shuffle.

I havent made any myself and has been something that I have wanted to do for years now since i first saw them, I just never got around to it. the reason I suggested a new site for us was would be for us who dont know how to make them would be to learn and grow together share our own experioences, then perhaps later move on into those bigger sites as we become more confident. Your experience in this would be a great help adn I am going to take a look at those sites now, thank you so much for posting.

To be honest, I would have love to have found a site like that when I first started out. I was so scared about doing it wrong or that the person I swapped with wouldn't like my creations. I found myself posting images and constantly looking for feedback. This is a very good thing you're starting here.

I usually sell my ATCs as ACEOs. They're really hot sellers right now on auction sites like Ebay. Some people really get a lot of money for them. I would be willing to trade some of my copies of ACEOs which are done on the same type of cardstock that I use when making my original and printed with a quality printer that I've heard has archival inks.

I've also heard that other small works are selling pretty good. I think it's because people want to own original art, but they can't afford to pay for the larger pieces.

sounds like a good idea, Im still new to all this adn trying to find my way around everything and those who might interested especially mylot friends to do a card swap. For me it doesnt matter how big or small the group is, so long as we ahve fun doing it and share new experiences. I read quite a bit about the debate between selling and the traditional sense of atc's very interesting indeed.

Hi Desertdarlene - I also sell ACEOs on ebay and have noticed a dramatic drop in hits and sales in the last quarter. Have you experienced anything like this? I've been watching other sellers, but they've remained consistent. I wondered if, maybe, I was doing something wrong or something.
