Far from stupid

I went to a meeting tonight for the district I belong to. We actively encourage inclusion not exclusion, not only for the youngsters but the leaders and any parent helpers as well. Tonight we had a fun pub quiz night which I really enjoyed until the couple of parents I was with insisted on telling me I didn't know what I was talking about, that I'm white (they were Indian) and probably just stupid anyway. I promptly removed myself from their team and informed the Chairman of what had been said as there is also zero tolerance to discrimination. They were removed from the quiz and spoken to privately. I am not stupid I know for a fact. I had enjoyed getting a couple of answers right up until that point too. What I didn't like was being made to feel inferior and less smart simply because of my colour. What is the world coming to? I do know though that I handled myself quite well and didn't get extremely upset.

Oh, poor thing that happened to you. Sometimes, there are people like that. Usually, old people. They thing that the younger ones can't be smarter than them, so they end up telling things like that. I'm glad you didn't get upset, because that would be a waste of time. Just cheer up, things like that happens everyday.

I am so sorry you were treated like this pal , I hate that people bring colour into an argument , I have never seen or heard anyone being treated like this in my company , In my church on a Sunday there ate all colours and never once have I heard an argument because of it , The children all go to Sunday school together and play together and never a mention of colour , A lot could be learned from children , don't you think pal ? xx

It amazes me that people can act this way when they are supposed to be on a team at a 'fun' quiz. Sounds like they were taking it a bit too seriously and not allowing everybody to have fun. I am sorry they ruined your evening. It is about time that it was realised that other people are just as rascist as a few white people. I hope it does not stop you from participating in future events.

Good on you! I fail to see why it considered racism if a white person even glances, at a member of a different culture andorigin, yet generally nothing is said or done when the tables are turned. I am glad that you spoke up. I also find it hard to grasp how shimps, parrots, lions and all the other animals of the world can live in a habitat harmoniously (obviously taking the food chain into account)but we who call ourselves intelligent being have such conflict with all of our fellow men. I think it is daft and we should all get along black and white is no different then fat and thin.

I agree, it should be easy for people to get along regardless of colour or anything else. Thanks for your reply.
