I live in an apartment but I am still responsible to paint my apartment. I have been here two years now and the bathroom and hallway must be painted. I would love to paint the whole house but finances are short and these are the areas that need it the most. How often do you paint?

Never... why do you want to paint your house anyway? We only paint it the first time before we moved in. Then.. that's that.

It is the custom in usa and canada, you don't live in a house forever and not paint, you need freshen up the place.

Lets see. I've lived here since 1984. In that time I had painted 1 room. In 1999 I remodeled & had every room painted but the 2 we didn't touch (had to put stuff someplace.) In 2001 I then cleared out the 1 room & painted, had an electrician in for the plugs & had a ceiling fan hung. In 2002 I had the other room redone - it needed a more comprehensive remodel than just paint & plugs - it was a "converted" garage, but the floor needed to be leveled, it only had 1 tiny window & was paneled in dark wood, making it so we called it "the cave." I had part of the wall pulled down & a glass block window put in, a huge window in the front & a sliding door between the room & the laundry room. So, now my house is completely repainted, but it took almost 20 yrs to do it.

I used to live in an apartment and we had to paint about every two years because me and my husband both are smokers. we now have our own home and we just painted a couple of years ago but we need to do it again because we smoke in the house. We are thinking about putting up some kind of paneling though so I can wash that nicotine off of the walls instead of having to paint them every time. We also have to wait until we get the money to do those things also.

I think it really strange that you have to paint a house that you dont own. I own my own house, so its different. But when i used to rent, you wouldnt be allowed to paint, unless you got permission from the landlord.

We painted when we first moved in about 3 years ago. And we will paint again in the upcoming weeks. It is overdue! We are sick of the colors we had put at first, and we are smokers, so the lighter shades tend to turn yellowish..

I don't own the house where I'm staying. Because of my mixed nationality, I wasn't given the privilege to buy my own house. That's why I refused to do so much repairing or even painting the house. Its not practical to waste too much money in painting a house that's not yours.

Last time, we had the house painted every 3 years. It has been at least 5 years since I last painted my house. We are supposed to paint the house this year but as we are all too busy, I only painted the doors. It is too costly to engage a contractor to paint all the walls and ceilings.

Here you're not responsible for painting a house if you are only renting - thankfully, it seems like a waste of money coz not only do you have to paint someone elses house, you still have to pay them to live there - it seems a little unfair. I have been in my house for 3 years now & have only painted 1 room, which was the nursery - the rest of the house is fine. Although, when we move our daughter in to the bigger room we'll repaint that one.

We bought our house last year. The outside is siding that we don't have to worry about painting. The inside is another matter. All of the walls are a light beige color that my fiancee can't stand. As soon as she picks the new paint colors I will be painting. From what some of my soon to be BIL tell me I will be painting yearly. Now, I am not sure if I believe this but I will soon be finding out.

I don't. My parents have wallpaper up and just replace the torn with new. I'd like to paint my own home and have a balance between paint and wallpaper. kudos, ~Joey

We live in a townhouse winterose, and have been here since 1994. It was decorated, including paint, at that time, as it was a 'fixer upper.' Last summer, due to major plumbing problems etc. we had to have our entire bathroom redone. The living room ceiling had been leaking, due to this, so we had it replaced, and the living room, dining room re-painted. This was done 'very cheaply,' with the help of some dear friends. I hope you're able to get your painting done soon.

My house was built six years ago. Last September I have repainted the house, that is after 4 years. since we do not have children in our house we are able to keep the house clean. However new enrolments are expected by the end of this year. My two daughters are expecting. So children will be coming and frequency of repainting will increase. Thank you.
