What's the best advice you can give? I'm about to get my first apartment and I was wondering if anyone has any helpful tips about apartment living- whether to save money or just to make things work better in general. Thanks!

Make a point of cleaning your apartment once a week, especially if you're messy and disorganized like me. It's really easy to put it off and let your apartment become a disaster.

Oh gosh, yes. I'm good with keeping things clean dirt-wise, but I do tend to get horribly cluttered if I don't stay on top of things. I'll be sure to put myself on a regular cleaning schedule.

Make sure you turn on ALL of the faucets and flush the toilet. Low water pressure sucks. Check to make sure the oven and everything else works. Believe me they have no problem renting you an apartment without working appliances. Don't believe them when they say they will fix it. They will when they remember or get around to it. Also if the grass is high it is because they didn't pay the guys who mow it and they stopped. Not what ever the landlord tells you. I own a landscaping company and I will not do any work for a landlord unless they pay in advance. I have never worked for a landlord that cared what it looked like. They just want it done as cheap as possible. ALWAYS REMEMBER the person who rented you the apartment doesn't live there so they don't care.

Thanks for that tip. I'll be sure to check everything to make sure it's working. The apartment I'm moving into looks really well-groomed and has good ratings from past tenants, so I'm not too concerned there. I'll keep my eyes open, though. And I'm a bit of a fix-it person myself...chances are, I'll just repair things if they break, and the staff won't even have to know about it. 'Cuz if you want it fixed, sometimes you just gotta do it yourself.
