We have come to understand English as a global language , but aren't you surprised to know that there are almost as many Spanish speakers.English estimates vary from 270-400 million and Spanish estimates vary from 150- over 300 Million. Isn't that fantastic.

Hi, Yanstill, No, it's not as hard as you would think! English is based upon Germanic and Latin, so you'll find that the Latin in English will help you. Also, Spanish is a very well structured language --the grammar is rigid and easy to learn, and applies to all words, not just a few like in English. So once you learn the rules, you can apply them to any verb, noun, or conjunction. Idioms are there of course, but in any language you must learn a few idioms. I learned Castillian, that which is spoken in Madrid. I highly suggest that you learn something a little less formal, like Puerto Rican or a mix of Portuguese and Spanish. My "high" Spanish makes Spanish speakers laugh. They say, "Why do you speak all Thous, and Thees? You sound like a bible!" ;)

I did not know that. My parents can understand some Spanish since Spanish was a part of the college curicullum in their times (here in Philippines). It's quite surprising but possible. :D

Is Spanish still part of the curriculum? If not why was it removed ?
