Promises Are Made To Be Broken...

This is an old saying that most of us, in the present world, have learned to hate so much. I can still remember that, I detest hearing it whenever someone breaks a promise and, makes it his lean on for a lame excuse. For me, promises are given in order to be fulfilled. The one who has given the promise must make all efforts to be able to have the promise realized. Share your views on this, this is an insight which is open for debate.

Yes. I hate the saying. I hate when promises are not kept and they are broken. I have even done this myself and it sure does not make me feel good when it happens. I do not break a promise unless it is absolutely necessary to make things better for someone else. I do not intentionally tell someone something that was promised to keep quiet about. I do not want to hurt someone else so the majority of the time, I keep my promise to them.

I agree. There are some times when we just have to break that promise whether we want to or not. We don't intentionally set out to betray the other person though, right?

it is only natural that we cannot keep to all of our promises 100%. but at least, it is important that we keep to our promises. for those that we have not fulfilled, at least we can offer some explanations.

Hello my friend, I beg to differ. I don't really think promises are made to be broken. I feel they should be kept, as far as possible. That's why I seldom make promises as I want to honor every promise I make.

yes, you are right. if there is no way that we can fulfill our promises, we'd better not make any at all. the ones who got our promise will be counting on its fulfillment.

yup. it's better not to promise so much at all than end up not being able to fulfill what you just said. it will just be a stain in your personality if you can't fulfill a promise.

I try not to make promises for that very reason, and when people try to get me to tell them when I will have something by, I ask them are they trying to get me to lie to them, because when I say I don't know, that's what I mean.

it is always best that we do not give promises we cannot fulfill. you are right to say that peoplw will consider us a liar if we cannot uphold them.

oh my, don't you think that it would be too much to stick to a promise at all cost? i believe that there are some promises which we cannot really fulfill because of some prevailing circumstance at times.

I take my promises seriously. I hate it when people go back on promises, especially when you were really counting on them. It's dissappointing.

it is really disappointing once we count on somebody has given his word on promise on something important.

once you make a promise, think first if you can fulfill it. if not, then don't promise anything to a person. it will just break someone's heart or ruin someone's day. we promise because we know we can do what we promise. promises are made to be broken... a very unnecessary excuse from persons who really can't make a promise come true.

how right will it be for us to stick to being honest when we give our word. whenever we say that we will do it, we said so because we thought that we are capable of doing so.

I agree with you that promises are given in order to be fulfilled. One should not make a promise if they are not going to keep it. I have on occasion promised someone something and haven't been able to fulfill it and have apologised for it too. I also have to be very careful when it comes to my own son and not to make promises if I can't fulfill them, he remembers everything.

i agree with you that it is a wise move to do when, you undetake the step at explaining as regards the failure to fulfill a promise. there will always be times when we cannot do it though we intend to. having an open communication will always bridge the gap. when the cause for the nonfulfillment is reasonable, others can always understand.

Yes I agree with you that promises are given in order to be fulfilled.By all means these promises must become true and be fulfilled in order to gain confidence and trust upon realizing the said promises.

Actually, making a promise is a commitment. By promising somebody you give them the reason to expect that you will fulfil it. And when you don't, it's such a big frustrations on the other person. But just like lies, there are white promises. These are the kind of promises wherein you keep the person always positive in his life. And to break that promise you must be ready with a very good reason why you did not fulfil it. And that reason must be an advantage on that person.

i agree that promises are made to be kept and fullfilled. otherwise, if one cannot make a promise true to his heart, he'd better not make one at all.

for those who cannot accomplish or fulfill the things they said are bound to breaking their own promises. these kind of people should be avoided for they cannot be trusted. sincerity, honesty and integrity are some keywords used to test the real essence of keeping one's promises. when you are sincere and honest i see no reasons at all why you opt not fulfill what you said to someone else. i believe that promises should not be made broken...

we can understand that there are times when promises become impossible to fulfill due to some circumstances. however, normally, we will always count on promises to be carried through. once our trust is broken, it is gone forever.

I thnik you are right. A promise is made to be kept in my eyes. At least this is what I am trying to do. Old sayings are sometimes stupid. I remeber another old one whcih was saying: "Who bend his head will not be shortened by the enemy". I totally disagree with this one too.

This is a excuse for those who did not fulfill their promise. Some people also follow the similar sentence about the law are make to be broken. Ok, if everything under such excuse, there will no human culture at all.

i agree with you that this is a lame excuse for those people who makes promises without any intention of fulfilling them. i feel so bad about that saying regarding the law is made to be broken. this is the reason why we have so many who have the guts to be breaking our laws. they create havoc among the peace loving citizens.
