Robin red-breast and red-heads

We were driving the other day and a red-breasted robin caught my eye. The thought occurred to me that they are not red but orange. Same with red headed people. If the color is actually orange and not red; why on earth do we say red? I am really curious and hope someone knows. Regardless even if you don't know; theories should be fun to read too!!
