Adding tags to others discussions

We are asked to add tags to discussions even when we reply. I have no problem with it. I don't do it with each reply but obviously do it when I start a discussion.
I just noticed that someone added a mature content tag to my scaring the atheists and agnostics. So less people see it.
That isn't fair.
Why do people do that? Is there away to have it removed?

I always add tags to my own discussions but when I add relevant tags to a response it is a 50/50 chance is will not appear! So I wonder why the people that add tags that are not relevant get accepted?
