Sneakers or Sandals

Being on my feet a good part of the day, I want something that is supportive and comfortable to my feet. I wear sneakers with a good arch support in them. But, in hot weather my feet get hot, sweaty and tired. I am going to search for a supportive pair of sandals that I can wear to work. Any suggestions? Or, should I just stick with the sneakers?

No I think you should invest in some Sandals to be honest or your Feet will burn because they are to hot But make sure that you are allowed to wear them here in the UK in a lot of Jobs they will not allow Sandals for Health and Safety reasons

We can wear sandals as long as they aren't flip flops. I was surprised by this because most places I have worked frown on sandals.

I think I would get a good pair of sandles like you said something with support. And if they dont work bring your sneakers with you. They do have some nice supportive sandles out there. So go for it.

I have been shadowing people all this week and riding in their cars. Bringing extra things along isn't too great. But, when I am out on my own, I will bring other shoes and sandals.

Are you familiar with crocs? I like the off brand that is sold in Payless. They are called Airwalks.... the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. They are only $15.

I personally think you get better support with sneakers. There are lighter made sneakers that have more breathable material that are a little cooler in the summer. I've gotten them at walmart, so they are something you have to pay alot of money for. Lightweight socks instead of the thicker ones help too.

I notice a big difference in how my feet feel after I have worn my sneakers all day. They do feel better. The sandals I have do not have much support and my feet tend to ache after wearing them for only short jaunts such as grocery shopping.

I meant to say they are *not* something you have to pay alot of money for on the sneakers. Sounds like from your own experience, sandals just don't give you the support?

The sandals I have were cheapos from Kmart and really have little to no support. They were comfortable to wear when I was working in an office and didn't have to be on my feet all day. Now that I am on my feet all day, I need extra support. Sneakers fit the ticket, but make my feet hot.

I am a sneaker wearer, having bad ankles. But in hot humid weather this isn't going to work. What abpout school sandals? In Australia, they make school sandals in adult sizes. They are good, strong, & supporting sandles & comfortable to wear all day.

School sandles are designed to be strong, supportive, but comfortable for childeen to wear to school. They are sturdy, and usually only in navy or brown colours. They make winter school shoes too. Many schools make school shoe compulsory here, as they are deemed suitable for kids feet. I know they make adult sizes.

How could I forget that smile! I do love my sneakers. They really give me the best support. I have a good pair of orthotics in them now and it seems to do the trick. The problem is that my feet really get hot and sweaty in them.

I recently bought me a pair of comfortable pair of sandals from K-mart. I can't remember the brand name. But they come in wide sizes and have some arch support. As I walk on my right tippy toes (MY right leg is disabled) and have no problem walking in them at all. They are the color black.

I checked out what Kmart had at the beginning of the season. Maybe it is time to go back for a second look!

With my weight, I have to have tie up sneakers. I go for the good brands too, like Reeboks and Avia. Each person is different as to what feels right, though. I also have a very expensive pair of arch supports that I bought at a specialty store. I buy my shoes at Famous Footwear, and the price can be comparable to Wal Mart, as they are discontinued models, etc. I hear from a friend of mine that her foot doctor also recommends Dr. Scholl's gel insoles. Other than that, I would say put a little gold bond or similar medicated powder in your shoes and wear light weight socks. More protection for your feet than sandals.

I had a pair of Avia's, but they held in the heat and caused my feet to sweat excessively. I have been wearing Dr. Scholl's mule style sneaker. They are comfy. But still my feet get a bit hot.

I guess it depends on where you work, etc. but you can get men's sandals that are made much sturdier then women's and still not look real "butch" looking and they hold up so nicely. I got some great, real leather ones from WalMart a few years ago that cost about $20 I think, maybe less, and wore them at work (the bank) with khaki pants, etc. Of course they would look odd with a skirt or something but to go with pants they looked fine. The women's sandals just don't seem to be as sturdy and worried about support as the men's. The women's ones tend to be "pretty" but not too functional. Just a thought!

I think you'll find that for OH&S reasons you need to wear a closed shoe. Wear cotton socks to alleviate the problems you have and wear a good foot powder. Sounds like you're really getting into the swing of things. Hope everything is going ok for you. Cheers dear!

I like to wear sandals all summer. Thankfully, my work lets me wear whatever I please in the summer because I work at a school and there is no one here from the end of May until September. Since I have to lift things and move around the office a lot in the summer, I like to wear Tevas. Here is a link to see their stuff: http://www.teva.com/womenLanding.aspx?g=w I can't tell you how comfortable these sandals can be if you get the right ones. They give you support and best of all they have a lot of ones that have ankle straps. The sports ones aren't always the prettiest, but they sure do last a long time.

If I worked at a job where I was on my feet all day- I would wear sneakers- Sandals do not offer enough support- and my feet seem to get tired and achy. I work in an office- so I wear a lot of sandals and only wear sneakers when I’m home or going to be walking a lot- We went to an amusement park over the past weekend- I wore my sandals- after a couple of hours- I switched to sneakers- My feet got hot- but they were not achy. So my advice would be stick with sneakers.

There are sneakers with mesh on them that are much cooler. You need a good supporting she if you are going to be working at lifting people around much. Support is very important to your health as well as the person you are lifting. If your foot slips you could fall and get hurt as well as hurt someone else. However, comfort is also important. When I worked lifting alot. I wore a good pair of sneakers and put baby powder in them each night and morning to absorb sweat

I think for the summer you need a comfy pair of sandals to let your feet breath and also cushion them at the same time Sneakers are o.k for the winter but boy don't the feet stink if they are worn without socks lol? I know so many people that wear them in the summer and without socks, once they take them off the whole room is ablaze with stink fire hahaha Definitely sandals I say.

Letting the air cool my feet is something that I would like, but if I can't be comfortable in them all day it wouldn't be worth it.

Personally, I prefer sandals as long as you can find a pair with good support. Dr. Scholl’s are probably the best that you will find. Many people tell me that they can only wear sneakers though. It would be best to bring the sneakers along if you wanted to try the sandals at work, but I would try wearing the sandals all day on a day that you weren't working before chancing it at work if you couldn't bring the sneakers just in case.

I brought my sandals with me today, but didn't have time to change into them in between clients. Perhaps I should wear the sandals to start off with and change into the sneaks if my feet really begin to bother me.

oh I am one of those people who use their feet very much being a doctor!!!but I like shoes and unless I have to be on charge of the department the whole day I wear fashion shoes!!! I can assure you that sandals can be as comfortable as sneakers providing you choose a good pair. First of all you need good leathers sandals and then my advice is to choose those sandals that have a wedge not only on the heels but also on the soles...these are the most comfortable ones and I can be a whole day out without having problems!!!!

Thanks for the advise. Many people prefer sandals with a heel. I like my foot to be level. Heels only cause more foot pain if you are standing on them for long periods of time.

oh no my friend I was suggesting wedge not heels..and I assure you wedge are more comfortable than you can even imagine..I find them more comfortable than sandals without them...I think you should try and find how comfortable they can be..last year I helped my mother choose a very comfortable pair made by an Italian designer called Nero Giardini and she is in love with them now..before she was as skeptic as you!!!

crocs - the most comfortable work sandal ever!
Try the sandal called crocs. They are made of rubber and they are so comfortable. Nurses wear them in the summer time. Here's there website but they can also be bought in sporting good stores. http://www.crocs.com/home.jsp they come in a variety of colors and well worth the money spent. Good luck!
