The Beginning of Yard Sale Season!!!

Yes, today is the unofficial start of the 2007 Yard/Garage Sale Season. It is the beginning of Memorial Day Weekend. As I was driving through town today, I saw a minimum of 35 signs for yard/garage sales. Now normally, I love this special weekend. I love to go to all of the sales and sift through things to find treasures. I love to wheel and deal and bargain with the sellers. This year, this weekend, I am bumming cause I am broke. I don't get paid until next week. All these opportunities and I have no money to bargain with. Even the local stores are having big sales. This is so sad. Will you go to the yard sales this weekend? Will you be hunting for treasures? Will you be finding things and taking them home? Or will you be like me and be missing out because it is not the right timing for you?

When I lived down south, yard sale season was longer and it did seem to not be very active during the hot months. I also don't recall a particular day that would start the season. Either I am getting real old and my memory is now clouded or I just did not pay close attention to the season when I was there. hhmmmm Now you have given me something to ponder. Thank you for giving me a true challenge. I have to actually remember stuff from a long time ago. Ouch! too much thinking, now I am getting a headache. LOL

I am not really a HUGE yard saler. I have gone on occasion. Usually when I am looking for something in particular. When my hubby started his job, we went looking for tools. FOund some really good deals. He has to use all this specialty stuff, which acan be very expensive. Guess I am really not a big shopper in general. Hope you find some little "extra" to be able to get out there... :)

Just think of what I have to save up for!LOL I am going to starve myself so I can save a few dollars! (who am I kidding, that would save more than a few dollars!) I just have to keep saying it over and over" NO Shopping!NO Shopping!NO Shopping!"

Ok, I suppose I could turn over the water jug that I put my change in and roll a few dollars worth. Then tomorrow I could hit a few of the sales. I know if I go to the bank to get some money out I will spend it all. I have some trips coming up in June so I am trying real hard to be good and not spend my savings too soon.

We have a big trip end of July early August taht we are saving for. I also keep my change in an old water jug. The kind used at the water coolers. We recently tipped it to get quarters for laundry and decided to take it to the bank. Over $150 was in there !! That may be all you need for yard sales..lol

I went to the one that was in the town where my daughter goes to school. Yep ONE!! She only had 2 hours at school so I thought I would go to the yard sales around town to waste some time. That took about 20 minutes and that was with looking at the clothes, which I usually don't do. I found one undergarment for my daughter and that was it, I am glad they didn't have anything I needed, as alas I too am broke. We also have one at the local drive-in theater on Saturday but we can not go to it because we have to take my son to his old house and get the rest of his stuff, so we are going to miss out all around.=o{

Not fair! At least you got to go to one. I had to really restrain myself this morning when I saw all those signs. I really wanted to go look and shop but I knew if I did I would spend money that I could not afford to spend this week.

Come on, I only spent 10 cents. I can look and not buy! I had to sit in the car for 2 hours. I even went to Hardee's just so I could stand in a long line for breakfast and I trimmed split ends off my hair for an hour! I have nicer hair, but I felt like I had drove 650 miles!!LOL

We don't have this holiday but I'm unable to do any spending for a while cos I just took out a mortgage on my home to do some home improvements. I need to wait and see how I go with repayments and juggle the ole budget a bit so I have enough money to do what I want. I surely do love these type of sales though.

I live in Australia actually and we don't have a season for yard/garage sales. We have them anytime all year round. People have them when they move or just for no reason I guess. Cheers.

I am now curious and if I recall you live around England or that area (I could be so wrong). But since you do not have this holiday like the United States, when does yard sale season start in your area? Does it start around Mother's Day or later?

This is a weekend that we plan for, we hit all the garage sales, leading to the Packwood Flea Mart: Which is a whole town full of booths and vendors and sales. It takes all day to walk through it. Bargains, Bargains, Bargains!!!!

I hope you find lots of things. Do come back and tell us what special things you find and if you meet any interesting people while shopping for bargains.

I did not score this time around, though my 5yr old son took his money, and was able to find some match box cars 3 for $1.00 . . . He was pretty happy. He collects them and has about 300 of them, the amazing thing is he know where each and every one came from, about 50 of them belonged to my husband when he was little. My son was also fasinated by the tall rock climbing wall they had this year, he thought for sure he'd be able to climb to the very top, though was dissapointed when he got half way up and got scared so came back down (that's still better than I would have done...I don't do heights) My husband found some tools. And the interesting people were everywhere, We always joke, that every year you either see LOTS of pregnant women, or LOTS of strollers!, last year was the pregnant women...So this year..Yep! you guessed it. Strollers and crying babies everywhere!! I myself came home empty handed but still had lots of fun, though I did come home to a message on my machine that my Northpole Apple Trees came in, So I picked those up and got them planted ASAP... So all in all it was good day!

i really do wish that people where i live are more accepting of yard sales. but anyway i've done a yard sale of my own and i earned a relatively good amount of money. if i were to go to a yard sale i'd probably enjoy it a lot, since i'm into vintage stuff and looking for treasures in other people's trash :)

Recently, my friend and I went looking for yard sales. We went to three different towns and only found three sales. Very disappointing day. We are hoping that this weekend will be better.

I love yard sales and flea markets. Its so much fun to treasure hunt and to wheel and deal. Next week I will be going to a couple of big flea markets out of town. We will be leaving the house at 5 in the morning. They are a few hours away and we want to be there when they open. I won't be going to any sales this week, I have to save my money for next week.

I love the big flea markets. There are so many vendors in a small area. It is nice to be able to get out and walk for a distance as opposed to doing the in and out of the car shopping. It sounds like it going to be a good yard sale season. Woo Hoo!!

I will missed out this weekend. My Niece graduated from high school Saturday and Sunday was my youngest 8th birthday. So my plate was full. However, next weekend I will be at it. :0)

Congratulations to your niece and Happy birthday to your child. Yes, family is more important and takes priority over yard sales any day of the week.

I went to a few today but didn't find squat that I needed or wanted for the matter. I love yard sales- You can find some neat things for great prices- I was planning on hitting the mall today too for their great sales- but didn't make it there- It wasn't a money thing though- Just me getting up and around!

I love it! I just missed out, I went to visit my sons in Columbus Oh, and last week there was a neighborhood garage sale in German Village. Everyone had tables set up outside. German Village is a preserved neighborhood that has brick streets, original dwellings from early settlers, and neat little gardens. My son bought an antique clock for $30. I've been looking forward to the sales closer to me, but I wish I would have caught the one in Columbus.
