How many Bibles do you have?

I know it's not how many you have, but how much you read them... but still, I'm curious. I have 3 King James versions, one regular, a Thompson Chain Bible and a Dake's Annotated Bible. I also have a New International Version, The Living Bible, The Amplified Bible, The Message, and The Jewish Study Bible. That sounds like I'm more of a Bible student than I am, but it does help at times to read the same passage in various ways.

Off the top of my head I will say 5. I would have to go count them to be sure. Most are NIV but I have a few others in there too. I even have a Catholic bible. I used to have the mormom bible too but got rid of that. Have you ever used www.biblegateway.com ? You can look up passages in all sorts of versions. It is a great reference tool.

If you have so many Bibles and they all have differences which one will you believe as solid truth and stand on to give the truth to another? and if you give the answer to another is it the right one as not to be held accountable?

Good questions! I find that the Bibles are not all that much different, but some will explain some things better than others. When I come across something that seems contradictory in a different Bible version, I pray about it, and sometimes I just have to leave it alone. It's like the different denominations in the Christian church... which one is absolutely right in all its doctrine? None of them. If we would be afraid to give an answer to those who ask until we were absolutely, positively sure that we were 100% right, most of us would keep our mouths shut tight and the rest of us would be opinionated fools. The only exception is knowing Christ and Him crucified. That's the heart of our faith and must never be compromised. The rest... there's too much we don't know and we should never pretend that we do.

I have found copies of the KJ. version with commentaries written by main line evangelist that changed the whole meanings as what the line of scripture was saying which would drag a reader over to his denomination I'd say that was quite different. Through studying the history of Christianity it will show you where the denominations started and why and by who, which will definitely help someone understand more truth as to who's who and whats closer to being right.

I think you have to be a lot more careful with commentaries than you do with Bible translations. But it's always smart to check with the Holy Spirit before believing anything.

Want my Living Bible? :) I've had it for years and it's hardly broken in. I just don't read it much.

Oh probably a dozen or so, and that's after we gave away several. There's only one that ever sees the light of day. Mostly I look up translations online when I need them, so I don't really use any but the one I carry with me to church.

I have one that I carry with me when I go somewhere it's needed, too. It's 32 years old and falling apart but I can find what I want in it. The rest of them have it all in the wrong place. ;)

I have 2 King James that are my own, plus my son has 1, plus down to 5 I picked up at a dollar store I give away to people who would like a bible but don't have one. I also have New International Version which I use daily and my son has another, and The Living Bible - on computer program I have KJ, AMP, Message, and a couple others (I'm always downloading more). Opps forgot Children's Bible I read to my grandchildren.

It sounds like you use yours like I use mine, except I use the KJV daily and check it with the NIV and sometimes the Message to get a broader sense of some things.

Do you realize how blessed we are, talking about leaps of Bibles. There are so many people in this world how have to share one King James, which pages dissolving because of age and use. So I have just one Bible in order to read in bed or to take to the service, but I buy regularely contemporary translations as gift for newcomers or non believers. So how do I study? www.e-sword.net, all the Bibles you'd want and need, especially fine the literal translations.

Yes, I do realize how blessed we are. I can go into almost any book store and buy a Bible. I have given away Bibles and no doubt will again. Another good online study source is blueletterbible.org It has several translations you can compare as well as dictionary, commentaries and other study tools.
