FDA/CDC warns about contact lens solution

More warnings, it makes you wonder what is safe for humans and pets anymore?
ATLANTA - Government officials are warning people to throw away a contact lens solution after an investigation linked it to a rare eye infection.
The warning concerns AMO Complete Moisture Plus Multi-Purpose Solution, used for cleaning and storing soft contact lenses, said a spokeswoman for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The solution seems to be a factor cases of Acanthamoeba keratitis, a painful eye infection that can lead to permanent vision loss or blindness.
The CDC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are investigating 138 confirmed cases.
The solution is made by Advanced Medical Optics Inc., a publicly traded company based in Santa Ana, Calif. The company issued a statement Friday night saying it was "immediately and voluntarily recalling" the solution.

Holy crap! It's never ending and that's scary since I use contact lenses. I haven't put them in as of yet, since I just got out of bad not to long ago, so right now I am wearing my glasses. So after I get this finished up, I am going to go check on my solution to see if it is the one being recalled. That really scares the you know what out of me, and makes me wonder why they aren't more closely watching this stuff. And don't see why more stricter policies haven't been put in place or have been followed, since this stuff is very serious.

I dont wear contacts but I do wear glasses. I am glad this post was able to get the info out to at least one contacts wearer. Thanks for responding rose

You're welcome! Thankfully it's not a brand that is being recalled, but I still haven't put my contacts in after reading this. I'll stick with my glasses for awhile to make sure it doesn't get recalled. Cause I know that with the pet food thing, some of the food is still being recalled, so no telling how long this contact lens solution thing will go on.

I do not wear contacts, but I have two friends who have had lots of contact lens issues since about March. I thought, and they thought, that it was the lens itself, as some were recalled. I wonder now if they were also using this solution.

it is getting bad when you dont know what is safe to use or eat anymore."its kinda scary" everyday he hear about recall on something.im just glad i dont have to worry about contact solution.i dont wear contacts,but i feel sorry for the ones that wears them an need the solution.

I haven't heard this particular warning, but had heard that using the same solution over and over again can allow bacteria to grow in the solution, and cause blindness which might be something similar, I don't wear contact lenses and hope that I never will.

Nothing is safe anymore. It seems like everything is somehow being contaminated. I am beginning to think we should all become hermits and go back to living off our land. Life sure was a lot easier back in the old days. I'm thinking that a lot of our current problems are induced by our very selves and our technology driven society.

Thanks for the warning. I do wear contacts; but, do not use that brand of solution.
Over the years my eyes have changed and now wearing glasses makes me nausious and gives me motion sickness so I wear contacts all the time.
