You can't get much better than "Apollo 13" for a good historical and somewhat melodramatic account of the Apollo 13 program. I was amazed, overjoyed, and proud to see some of my favorite actors portraying my favorite astronauts in "Apollo 13". Tom Hanks: then at the top of his professional career - did an excellent job as Jim Lovell. He even reminded me of him. Sure the haircuts weren't all that perfect, but the acting was fantastic! Add in Gary Sinese, and to me me you've got a great movie. After all, the two had worked on "Forest Gump" together, and proven that they had chemistry -- why not a space movie after that? We can thank Tom Hanks for introducing us to Mr. Sinese! And just look at him now-- starring with top billing on CSI: NY. Amazing. This time around, less well-known actors were used, the feel was grittier, the costumes and casting even better, and the production values were flawless. The first part was directed by Tom Hanks, who set the stage for the other guest directors. From what I can see this was a real labor of love by Hanks. He gave it all to allow other directors and actors to sink their teeth into a miniseries that will remain vital for decades to come. I can even see that they might show this to kids in school one day, if not now! I liked this miniseries better than I liked "Apollo 13". To read about it go here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120570/ Coincidentally, both "Apollo 13" and "From The Earth To The Moon" are both airing today on Bravo and The Science Channel, respectively. Have you seen these movies about the space-race? I wonder, if you're in another country -- particularly the Russian Federation -- what did you think of either the movie or miniseries? Has it been sold where you are, and has it been translated? I'd really like to hear from everyone! What are your thoughts?
