Since I had a little computer problem last week and found some viruses, I can't stop getting pop ups. I've got a popup blocker that is not doing its job apparently, and it's driving me nuts! Today, in mylots, I keep getting a pop up ad for adult personals! If you know me at all! you can imagine how annoying that is! ARGH!

That would be a bit of a shocker Estherlou! I hate pop ups too but the adult ones are more than a little annoying to me. I am always afraid one of those things are going to pop up when my chldren are using the computer. They really shouldn't be allowed to do that.

I just downloaded Firefox and so far...no pop ups at all! Thanks! I had heard good reports before, but was accustomed to IE and didn't want to change.

Good grief .. that's a nuisance indeed .. sounds like you have a little piece of spyware software somewhere in your computer .. and it's dragging up the pop up every now and then ..
I'd have a good rummage in your computer and see what's been downloaded over the last few weeks .. or run some good antispyware software to try and get rid of the dratted thing ..
Don't forget to either delete all your 'restore' files or to give them a good AV check .. very often a 'bad' bit of software hides out in the restore function ..

After that unwanted spyware program appeared on our computer last week and totally froze everything, we've had a few minor problems. I had to start the computer in safe mode to get it to do anything, and then was able to remove that program. After that, using our antivirus software, we found 4 or 5 viruses we removed. It is up and running, but still little things like the pop ups have started. I tried a system restore, but it would only let me back up to the first of this year, and it didn't make any changes. I run virus scans often, so not sure what else to do.

The only place I go on the internet is to mylots and that's when I start getting pop ups. And my pop up blocker software is on and working...so not sure why all of a sudden this is happening.

I'm not having a problem with pop ups, either my pop up blocker is working, or you may have some spyware or something on your puter. But, I have noticed it's real slow loading the last few days, even open the page is taking forever. I run antispyware few times a day usually, try doing that and see if that helps stop the pop ups. I can't imagine this site having adult sites pop up, considering they won't let you type certain words lol. Oh wait, I just saw you typed personals not adults "sites"....still sucks either way lol.

I have yahoo, for my e-mail accounts, and it blocks everything pretty well. If there are particular things that I can specify to not receive, I put them in as filters. I also use Mozilla Firefox and I believe it does the trick as well. Those things are very annoying.I hope you find a solution soon, for your peace of mind. I did wonder if being on myLot would expose us to more pop up traffic, but so far it is not breaking through.

I can't tell if mylot has pop-ups since I have blocker and also use Firefox that automatically blocks pop-ups too, you need to scan your computer using something like "adaware" (free) to remove the hacker code that launched pop-ups, in extreme cases you need to formate your system and re-install Windows, that is if all anti-virus and anti-adware fails.
You may also want to try Firefox if you are using IE now, if one browser is effected with this malicious code it would not effect your second browser.

Errr...you know, esther, I'm not good with this computer thingy. I think the viruses are responsible for those annoying pop ups. What about calling a technician and have it check your computer. The technician may be able to cure your computer of viruses. Sorry, all I know is to chew carrots, LOL. I hope your computer will be put back in good shape.

I do not get pop ups at mylot and I do not get any pop ups at all since I have switched to Mozilla firefox browser. IE was so slow so I decided to try other browsers and Mozilla firefox is very fast, much faster than IE. And the nice addition is that firefox has a built in pop up blocker that is very efficient.

this is so strange. i never got any pop ups in mylot. you may have what they all say, a trojan that hooks itself to you browser and display pop ups.
try scanning your computer using a free industrial strenght virus/trojan scanner at http://www.trendmicro.com
i never use an anti-virus program cause its takes up space, use a lot of memories, slows down opening applications and youneed to update the files regularly for it to do a good job..
thus is use online virus scanner. a little discipline when surfing and installing apps will keep you safe from virus and trojans.

I have not got any pop ups at all in my lot. I suggest you scan your computer for viruses and such. Do you have a anti-virus or anti-spyware / anti-adware? If not let me know and I will give you links to downloads some free ones that work really well. Or go to freedownloads.com and search of anit-virus protection. They will have a fre eto choose from. Have you installed any new programs to your computer lately?
