Insane Assylum

i was just listening to a radio program about the mental problems of the world. The interesting thing I learned was from back in the early 1900's many a criminal was locked into an insane assylum believing they as well as the courts felt were insane. That's why they did the crimes. Now the strange yet interesting fact is the reasons why even now days some hospitals and prisons don't give the criminals much as far as blankets and why the insane assylums were colder than usual. Doctors back then believed that the "lunatics" felt no cold so they kept the rooms cold as well as not supplying blankets. Now we know why jails are still cold to this day. Well some of us know while others never will. Other than by reading it here. Hahahaha!!! BACK IN THE 1920'S IT WAS ALSO BELIEVED THAT THE "LUNATICS" NEEDED ENTERTAINMENT. sO SOME ASSYLUMS ACTUALLY HAD LIKE A MINI CARNIVAL ON THE FRONT LAWNS. sOME had a car track for the "lunatics" to ride around to ease their mental anguish? Hahaha.

I knew a bit about insane asylums, but had no idea of the belief that that insanity resulted in not feeling the cold.
I must ask my brother about that? At the State Jail, the locked insitution for criminally, mentally ill, is part of the general prison complex.
You say that some prisons & hospitals still follow this belief?
I guess there may be a point. I don't know how it feels to be insane(!), but my guess is, depending on the actual mental condition, it is possible that some sensory deficient is apparent too.

Grandpa Bob are you serious about the mini carnivals? I never knew that, I wonder if it really helped by providing this entertainment. Guess maybe it took their minds off other things that was bothering them. Hmmmmmm.

Wow, I did not know that bit of info. I find it very interesting that they didn't think they could feel cold, but could feel enough to need entertainment. Interesting!

Ok not sure if this is a serious discussion or a joke - ok all who love the races must be lunatics, lol.
I know for a fact even assylums that were run up into the 70s were not good and many residents were treated badly and didn't receive proper care or treatment. There were 2 huge ones not to far from my home town that were closed down and the residents were 'relocated'. I cared for several at the foster care home I worked at up until last fall.

People with menal illnesses somehow manage to find themselves in the criminal justice system somewhere. Jails are also cold to keep down the numerous viral and bacterial problems associated with them. They are breeding grounds for staff infection, hepatitis, head lice, and a multitude of other contagious things.

I thought I was pretty well informed, but this is some information I did not know. I do know, however, that some of this lunacy was directly attributed to the moon, hence Luna (means moon)cy. That is also why, to this day, people believe that children, and the elderly, especially those with dementia, act even stranger during the full moon. The "experts", doctors and psychologists say this is myth, the front line troops, teachers and nurses, generally believe it is all too true. Me, too.

Hello grandpa. I tried to assimilate what you said here. I was thinking criminals do not have any heart. They were supposed to be cold committing all those crimes without feeling anything at all. Should it be better to place them in a warmer place. I know there are some activities provided for this people. But I have never heard of a mini carnival for them, LOL!
