Cats with bad skin

2 of my cats have bad skin. Very flaky and VERY itchy. It seems to drive them crazy. I feed them a good diet, only Iams. I am thinking of using a supplement that will help their skin be healthier. Any good recommendations?

Have you checked by the vet? Maybe they have mites or other tiny parasites that make them itch and cause the skin to flake.

yep. sounds like dandruff. you can rub some olive oil into the cats fur, down to the skin to help moisturize it in a hurry, or just mix the olive oil into its dry catfood. It doesn't have to be olive oil, but I use that on my cat when he had dandruff. If that doesn't work, may want to ask a vet for advice. I use science formula for my cat (he is still a kitten) but I don't think cats care much for labels, either, they don't care. just as long as it is tasty (haha!)

oh yes! make sure you rule out the bug factor too! check your cats thoroughly, to make sure they don't have mites! if they are outdoor cats, this could also be a cause, as the person above said. If they are indoor specifically though, then it might be dandruff.

Check with the vet first, but you should be able to give her fish oil that will help with her skin. You should also look into allergies.

Itchy means maybe allergies. Flakes, are poor diet. There are other better foods. Like Nutro Maxi. You can try the supplements too. Try to brush them as much as possible. Are you in dry weather without moisture? If yes, it could be dryness. Try a humidifer. Or, call the vet and see what the vet suggests. Good luck dear.

I've tried a lot of other foods and Iams I have the best luck with overall. My other 3 cats have fine skin. It's really humid here at the moment... Thanks for all the responses. I'm going to look in to the fish oil.
