Ok before I say anything I am not looking to start a debate; I am just curious.
Other than appointing justices that banned partial birth abortion; what has Bush done for this country that is good?
I honestly can't see anything. I could be blinded by my dislike of him and the war he won't end; so that is why I am asking.
I see a lot of people Clinton bashing and even praising Bush but I don't understand the praise. We are in a war that we should be out of. We are spending multi millions daily on the war. Money that could help the citizens of this country. Unemployment is unbelievable. People are struggling all over the country.
I just don't see it. So in the interest of fairness to the man I would like to give everyone the chance to tell me what good he has done.

I am with you on this one. I'm very much with the liberal viewpoint, so I don't really care for the conservative way of thinking but, for me, Bush goes way beyond even that. I live in Georgia which is big time Bush country and even here you can see that people are tired of him. I'm going to follow this closely as I'll be interested to see how people respond.

Thanks inked. I too am really interested in seeing what people say. Blows my mind how many people still support him even though he has such a horrendous approval rating.

As I cannot think of a single thing that singles him out as a good president. I shall enjoy reading any responses to the contrary.

Wow my daughter is coming to Georgia in June!
Anyway, thanks for your reply. I find it amazing that the only reply I have gotten was someone using a speech the president made as his evidence. Hhmmm could we use anything more biased?

I am so glad that you posted this. I am always wondering the same thing. Whenever I post about Bush, there are very few people who will speak up, as if they are afraid to.
There are so many of our troops who are over there dying for nothing. There is no way to make any since out of this. I would be okay if this made sense to everyone accept me, but I know that there are people out there who feel the same way that I do.
I have to admit that I did not care much about politics at all until Bush came into office. It seem like from that point on everything in America started to fall apart. I am not really blaming him, I mean, it could be a coincidence, but I just don't think so.

Funny how the country fell apart in his hands and people blame Clinton.
This war makes no sense. It is not the war that was started on 9/11. It is one of his own agenda.

I like Bush as aperson He seems to be very sincere and even honest. I wonder though, about his advisors and others around him. The economy has been stable under his presidency. I disagree with his starting the war in Iraq and I disagree with his stand on the environment and in just about all of his foreign policy. I don't think he will go down in history as a very good president.
I think his leadership during the 9/11 aftermath was good and the economy staying fairly stable are the only two things I can say are good about his terms of office.

I can't say much about his leadership after 9/11. I think ANY president in office would have stepped up and done just as good of a job.
As far as the economy; we went into a recession after he was elected. We have so many people unemployed who aren't eligible for unemployment benefits because they have been unemployeed for over 6 months. If they don't get benefits they are not counted as unemployeed so people aren't being told the truth of how many people need jobs!
Still looking for the good he has done.
Nothing against you susieq. Thanks for answering.

Thanks Eden. I think far to many people forget the surplus we had uner Clinton. They often cite the tax refund "bonus" as a good thing that Bush did for us but they forget he got the money from the surplus left to him by Clinton!!!

If Bush is honest & sincere, then he must be amazingly dumb. He's told so many lies to the American people. If he's just a mouth piece for his advisers, and those lies are from them- he should be bright enough to realize they're manipulating him.
Our economy is stable- sitting stable in the toilet! We had a SURPLUS in our budget under Clinton. Our unemployment rate was truly & accurately low. Now we're so in debt paying for this un-winnable, seemingly never-ending war and far too many American's are unemployed.

1. I think we should have entered this war in 1993and if we would have the trade centers would be standing and our oil problems would be gone so I think the war is going great considering how the democrats messed up our military.
2. I beleave unemployment is very low and those who dont work dont want to work! Beleave me I live around it!
3. Tax is fair but we should enable fair tax but Bush has no control over that its the democrat congress ( Wich has done nothing good!)
4. I only regret Mexico I would build a new Great Wall from texas to Californea!

Traditional Values, Compassion & Volunteerism
Endorses and promotes "The Responsibility Era." President Bush often speaks of the necessity of personal responsibility and civic volunteerism. He said, "In a compassionate society, people respect one another and take responsibility for the decisions they make in life. My hope is to change the culture from one that has said, if it feels good, do it; if you've got a problem, blame somebody else — to one in which every single American understands that he or she is responsible for the decisions that you make; you're responsible for loving your children with all your heart and all your soul; you're responsible for being involved with the quality of the education of your children; you're responsible for making sure the community in which you live is safe; you're responsible for loving your neighbor, just like you would like to be loved yourself."
Started the USA Freedom Corps, the most comprehensive clearinghouse of volunteer opportunities ever offered. For the first time in history, Americans can enter geographic information about where they want to get involved, such as state or zip code, as well as areas of interest ranging from education to the environment, and they can access volunteer opportunities offered by more than 50,000 organizations across the country and around the world.
Established the The White House Office and the Centers for the Faith-Based and Community Initiative — located in seven Federal agencies. The faith-based initiative supports the essential work of these important organizations. The goal is to make sure that grassroots leaders can compete on an equal footing for federal dollars, receive greater private support, and face fewer bureaucratic barriers. Work focuses on at-risk youth, ex-offenders, the homeless and hungry, substance abusers, those with HIV/AIDS, and welfare-to-work families.
The White House released a guidebook fully describing the Administration's belief that faith-based groups have a Constitutionally-protected right to maintain their religious identity through hiring — even when Federal funds are involved.
Issued an EO implementing the Supreme Court's Olmstead ruling, which requires moving disabled people from institutions to community-based facilities when possible.
Increased funding for low-interest loan programs to help people with disabilities purchase devices to assist them.
Revised the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Section 8 rent subsidies to disabled people, permitting them to use up to a year's worth of vouchers to finance down payments on homes. HUD has started pilot programs in 11 states.
Committed US funds to purchase medicine for millions of men, women and children now suffering with AIDS in Africa.
Heeding the words of our own Declaration of Independence, the president laid out the non-negotiable demands of human dignity for all people everywhere. On January 29, 2002, he said, "No nation owns these aspirations, and no nation is exempt from them. We have no intention of imposing our culture. But America will always stand firm for the non-negotiable demands of human dignity." As stated by the President, they are a virtual manifesto of conservative principles:
Equal Justice
Freedom of Speech
Limited Government Power
Private Property Rights
Religious Tolerance
Respect for Women
Rule of Law

Ok I checked your age and you are only 16 so i will give you some slack.
1- I don't think going to war in 1993 would have prevented 9/11. Please explain to me how the democrats messed up the military.
2- Unemployment is not low. They don't count people who are unemployed but not getting unemployment as unemployed. The numbers they give are not accurate. My husband was unemployed for 11 months. NOT because he didn't want to work but because no one was hiring.
3- Fair tax? You are joking right? The democrats have been trying to straighten out the tax situation for years. The republicans have always stopped it from happening because the democrats don't want to only benefit the rich and big business.
4- Your comment about Mexico is sad. Do you really think the Mexicans are a threat to our country?
So I ask the question again... what good has Bush done for us?

I can't think of a single thing! I'm a Canadian who owns a Home in South Texas, I live there 5 months in the winter. I see a big difference since Bush Started the war. At first lots of cars had flags attached. Last winter there were very few American Flags on cars in Texas. Its a Bad Scene and Most Americans realise that Now! They tried to impeach Clinton for something very Silly, and he was Twice the President Bush is!
God Help America!

I hear you! So Clinton gets a BJ and we spent millions on trying and impeaching him. When do we get to do that to Bush. Oh that's right he isn't having an affair only killing innocent people.

Amen! I am truly surprised to hear about the absence of flags around Texas. I'm not crazy about their politics, but Texans are both extremely patriotic and fanatically loyal to their own.
You read my mind on the impeachment issue - this dork should have been sent to the knackers by now!

Sorry sugar, I don't see any good. Our country is in the worst debt because of him. And, I won't go into what you mentioned above to waste lines. He is a draft dodger and a drunk. But Americans got what they voted for. Unfortuately, Ameicans don't always have a good choice to choose from. Bush was a very bad choice.

This interested me and I talked to hubby about it. He said Bush reduced taxes. Another thing I thought of...when Clinton was the president, he almost stripped the military of all of its resources...cutting back on military spending, which Bush has increased. Bush also put some morals and standards back into the office of the Presidency. It is a good thing to be able to respect the office of the Presidency again.

Given my thoughts on Bush, this is indeed a bad topic for me to respond to. I think it unfair for anyone to say Al Gore would not have handled 9/11 well, like you Maildumpster i feel that is something we were deprived of finding out. I have been following this discussion to see if indeed someone could point me in the direction of what good will come out of his presidency. I have failed to see anything. I have lost all faith in Bush and his administration, but I have not my country. I do believe that given the right direction this can yet be changed around.

Thank you for replying. As I said to eden the Bush supporters aren't even showing me any good.
We were certainly deprived the chance to see what Gore would have done. WE the PEOPLE chose Gore the electoral college decided that the people didn't matter. (so much for a government of the people, by the people and for the people)
I feel that any president would have stepped up after 9/11. They would have had to. So giving Bush credit is flawed.
I still have faith in the country. It can be turned around but I am quite sure it will not happen until Bush is gone!

Bad things he's done?
Well the Real ID act of 2005, which takes effect next year. I reccomend you read some on that.
Uh..there's this recent article:
http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=3618
There's how protesters against Bush aren't allowed to hang around when he's giving a speech. They're given a spot faar away, and told not to come out of those spots. The "Free Speech Zones", and the police are posted outside the zone, and the reporters aren't allowed to talk to them people in the 'Zone..
There's more stuff, which I can't remember right this moment..'cause my head wants to have a headache. But there's a decent amoung of unlovely things he's done so far. I mean some things sure, they look like he TRIED to do something good..but they don't seem to end well.
Don't get me wrong, I tried giving him a chance too..instead of simply condemning him like alot of other people seem to be doing..but after I learned about this stuff..*shakes my head* I'm finding it hard to retain an optimistic outlook on him.

This discussion is actually frustrating me. I have seen many Bush supporters here at myLot. I have invited them to tell us what good he has done. I still haven't seen it even in the few Bush-supporter replies.
Thanks for replying

Believes that the UNBORN are more important than those already alive and chronically ill (stem cell research PS 22 years w/insulin-dependent diabetes)
Seems to be on the verge of removing the separation of church and state - many have posted examples of religion in government (PS nothing against religion, just not mixed with government)
Seems h$ll bent on removing every personal freedom that can be taken without a fight - including woman's right to CHOOSE! Take that as - If you don't want to end a pregnancy - don't, but DO NOT TELL ME what I can or cannot do. It is my life - go get and lead your own life.
