Don't you just want to say that to people when you ask for advice on something and they state the obvious? The things you have already tried?
I belong to a feeding support group for parents of children with feeding issues. I had planned on leaving a while back but never unsubbed.
Well my son who will be three on June 5th, used to eat very little now he eats just about non stop. The problem is for the last few months he refuses to eat anything good for him. Right now he wants to live on pizza, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, some pasta with sauce, fries, juice, and breast milk. He won't drink any type of milk from a cup nor most drinks he can't see thru. He eats few other things here and there but he used to eat all sorts of fruits and veggies.
So I bring this to the feeding group and ask if they thought it was just being a picky/difficult toddler or what. I asked for suggestions.
The few people that answered gave me the obvious answer of don't feed him those things. Only give him the good stuff. I so badly want to say to them "well duh, I have tried that. He just won't eat. Instead he will increase his intake of breast milk."
So how often do you want to say to people "well duh"

I always want to say "well duh" when talking to tech people, usually regarind issues I'm having using my computer - I just had it this morning, in fact. Text chatting trying to get something resolved. For example, I say that "the x is not working in the z program" and then they turn around and say "what program are you using" and they I say "z" then they confirm "that would be the z program" and I just want to shout "well duh", but you can't. PS - I hope your son is eating better now. My kids go through different stages of eating all the time.

I usually say "Duh. You're really a master of the obvious." USually gets their attention and they walk away with that "I'm an idiot" look on their faces. Makes me laugh.
