I just read a post by a vegetarian and a thought came to mind so I am going to ask.
If vegetarians are against meat; why do so many eat veggie versions of meat products? It is 'supposed' to taste like the meat. (this goes for any products that come from animals - eggs, cheese, bacon, etc.)

I am not a vegetarians but I have friends who are and they don't eat bacon. My friends say they dont eat anything that had a face and was killed for food. They eat dairy products, fruit, actually almost anything that is not animal.

I think I was misunderstood. I didn't mean that they ate bacon but rather veggie versions of bacon. So something that tastes like bacon.
I was watching someone cook split pea soup and she says you can put bacon in it and that she uses soy bacon. Then I come here and a member posted that they had veggie bacon and it got me thinking why they would even want something that TASTES like it came from an animal.

Hi! I'm a vegetarian since birth, I'm already 26 and I've never tasted anything like beef, bacon, chicken or fish. I believe these substitute meat products are for those who like to cook the usual way like beef steak but instead a substitute is used. I don't know the taste of bacon or what, I never craved for such food either. These substitute are used for transition diets. When a person decides to go vegetarian, it's pretty hard to leave your current diet immediately and through this substitute meat products they can change gradually thinking that it taste like meat although it doesn't have the same composition. In our house, all 8 children never ate meat since birth, but my parents only started when they got married so they know the taste of meat or chicken so they undergone transistion diet too. It's not advisable to suddenly change from one diet to another because the body will really adjust and find the usual food the we intake. Right now, we often use these meat substitute, we stick to more fruits and vegetables. It's more healthy to eat natural, unprocessed food to get the full nutrients. I hope I was able to answer your question. =)
