Have you ever gotten a wrong number phone call in the middle of the night?

This happened to me about 2:00 this morning. Naturally the first thing I thought of was my mother because she has some health problems. If my phone ever rings in the middle of the night it always scares me because I'm afraid she is sick. But this was a wrong number. I don't mean to sound like a grumpus, but if someone is awake that time of night and needs to call someone, it would be nice to make sure they have the correct phone number LOL. I know it was a wrong number because they didn't leave a message on my voice mail or call back when I didn't answer. I had only been in bed a couple of hours because I stayed up late working, so needless to say I was sleeping good when my cell phone rung. Oh well, maybe the next time the person will get it right LOL

That has happened to me before and it scares me every time the phone rings at nights usually it's bad news. You don't sound grumpus you were just worried and have bad thoughts which it is normal. Just imagine how that person may have felt when they realized they dial it wrong. :0

That is true, they were probably extremely embarrassed, I know I would be if I got the wrong number, especially that time of night.

I get worried too if someone calls in the middle of the night, thinking its someone calling from my family. My father in law has the habit of calling at all kinds of hours because of the time difference between New Zealand and USA. It is annoying though!

Hey funny story - I got a phone call in the middle of the night one night. When I 'answered' it I heard two men saying 'who's that'... Have no idea how it happened, they were in the middle of a phone conversation and some glitch in the system made my phone ring and we had a 3way call before it was 'common place'.

I have never had anything like that friend, but I just wonder why some will make calls at such time. Thanks and have a nice day.

Hi thefuture! I wonder the same thing. I know some people stay awake later at night than others but if they feel the need to call someone they need to at least make sure they have the correct phone number. :)

Someone called me up if her boyfriend was with me. At first I thought my husband was having an affair! I told her I don't have her boyfriend but I do have my husband. She was screaming foul words over the phone at 3 or 4 in the morning. Only to find out that her boyfriend was a different person and that she was given a wrong number. I was trying to get her boyfriend's name but she kept calling me names as if I stole her man. She was so embarrassed and ashamed after I let my husband speak to her over the phone as she didn't want to believe me at first. I canceled her call but she kept calling only to find out that she wasn't talking to the right person.

I'm glad everyone understands. I got to thinking after I started this discussion that maybe I sounded like a grouch. I didn't mean to sound that way if I did, I just get jumpy when something like that happens. :)

I know exactly what you mean. When the phone rings in the middle of the night a cold chill goes over my body. Isn't that odd how we think that way at night? When my phone rings during the day I think nothing of it...at night, I have a sense of doom. I too think of my aged parents and my two sons who now live away from home.

I am not a good person to wake up. I am very cranky when you wake me up. This means I am liable to say very nasty things to the person on the phone. I think that there is no reason other than an emergency for someone to call someone else in the wee hours of the morning. My family hates to call me after a certain time of night because they know I go to bed early most of the time.

I agree with you on that. I make it a habit to not call anyone after 9:00 at night unless I know for a fact that they stay up later than that at night. Years ago I called someone after that time and woke them up unknowing that they went to bed earlier. I felt horrible about it and have had that habit ever since. I have taught my kids the same thing, don't call anybody after 9:00 and unless it is an emergency I don't want their friends calling after 9:00. :)

I have gotten a few phone calls in the middle of the night like that when we first moved to this area. Our phone number was really close to someone else's number and the person kept dialing the wrong number trying to reach their friend. It got old after a while and we eventually got our number changed due to many circumstances that were happening. We haven't gotten a wrong number phone call in a long time now. I'm glad that it wasn't something seriously wrong though when they called my home.

i had one a couple of days ago. it was so annoying that i wanted to shout at the person calling. what i hated even more was she kept on hanging the phone when i am already about to answer it. i don't have a choice on not answering it because it might be an important call for an emergency. i just wished that callers are considerate enough of the people that they are calling.

Thank you Udderones, yes, it did take me a while to go back to sleep. Then I had to turn around and get up a little before 5:00 a.m. I shouldn't have any trouble sleeping tonight, LOL.

I can imagine how you feel since most of my families and relatives lives miles away separate by oceans (I meant abroad) and my dad has heart problems as well. So, all middle of the night calls always made me jumpy. I hate this wrong adres phone calls but in a way I'm glad since that means nothing happend with my family that I have to worry about. The problem is most of the time took me a while to be able to go back to sleep....zzz... So, I know it is pretty upleasent situations but try to think on the bright side. If you can't go back to sleep, go sneak on the fridge....hehehe

Yes i have a lot The year before last year, my father in law was sick and i have received many call at that time, also at late after all were in deep sleep. the one who makes those calls always ask for the time. That have a lot of effects: I wake up suddenly scaring, that some thing may be happened to my father in law. But in all case you should treat this situation kindly. do not be angry, and if some one ask at that late time, what is the hour now? You tell him the correct time, and ask him if he need any other servic!

SheliaLee, I think that the first thing that most of us think when the phone rings is that something bad has happened...otherwise they could have waited until a more appropriate time to call... This has happened to me before when the person on the other end was drunk or stoned or who knows what...these are the ones that truly irritate me...but there is not much that I know to do about it. I always try to be polite the first time...but if they continue to call after I have told them that they have the wrong number ...it ruins my rest and I can not go back to sleep.

I think the first thing on everyones mind when the phone rings in the middle of the night is that it is bad news. I have had this happen to me,too. I don't know if they realized their mistake or what, but when I did pick up no one said a thing! Whether it was a prank call or a wrong number, I think it is rude to not say something. Then I set there and think what if it was someone who needed help and was unable to talk. I have 2 neices who choose the wrong men to be with, and they do call sometimes in the middle of the night needing me to come get them. I guess some people just don't realize that it would be nice if they left a message, just so that you could make sure no one is in need.
