Do A Lot Of You Come Here To Fill A Need?

I love coming here to MyLot, and have felt that I've gotten close to a lot of great people here, and the fact that we can all earn a few extra bucks is a nice added bonus--but I'm just wondering if it also to fill another need? What I mean by that...for instance, do you feel that you can sometimes vent your problems better here than with your own personal friends? Do you come here as an escape when life is especially giving you a hard time? Is it that maybe there's a bit of loneliness in your life and you fill it by being here?---And remember you can be lonely even if you have a lot of friends to talk to. I think with me its a bit that I can vent out my problems and know that someone out there will understand..and yes, definitely as an escape.. So how about you...is MyLot somehow filling some void in your life?? Just curious.

Very good question, and I am not sure I have questioned my motivations for mylot the way you are describing. I found the site though some list of online money making opportunities, it took me a couple of months to really get involved. I met a few friends that I found intellectual, funny and entertaining, the next thing I knew mylot was taking up all of my online time. I do not use mylot to vent, although I do vent to a few friends here on mylot in private, but I do have the chance to exchange life experiences with other people that seem to be asking real questions. Does it fill a void, I am not sure about that. What I do know is that I enjoy mylot, I am obsessive to a point, but my real life goes on also.

I "accidently" discovered this place too...on of all things on of the Yahoo photography groups I belong to...it probably could have been considered a spam kind of thing and normally I would have ignored it but my curiosity took the better of me and joined up...as for spending too much time here...definitely....I really need to balance things cause I do have so many other things I need to do in front of a computer...like you I find a lot of really terrific discussions, then of course I come across some really bizarre ones--or just plain stupid--but then we can't all be an Einstein can we now?? LOL

LMAO no Einstein most of us are not! I have to admit I have gotten caught up in a few stupid discussions that really wigged me out. I did have a 10 star rating, LMAO:)) that whole star thing takes a beating when you voice an opinion that is not the popular one of a discussion. The thing is I do enjoy mylot even given some of my "stupid" moments, and good friends can be made in this type of format. My life is enriched by these relationships, and what ever time I spend here is for the most part relaxing and enjoyable.

I give in to participating in wacky conversations too...but then I can't be "so" serious all the time...right?

Well I'll be honest and say I came here first to make money but now it's for more then that. I get to interact with others in ways I can't off line. I also get to learn about different things, help others with problems they might be having, and of course vent if need be. All of that makes mylot a place for me. I love spending time here. It makes my life a bit better so I'm afraid you are stuck with me. Run for cover now :)

I come here for hope! I hope to get advice, i hope to help a friend, a hope to learn something new, a hope to make friends, i hope to relieve my depression. The one thing i can't find, is no hope! LOL! Take care Pyewacket.

I've joined a few discussion forums before, but nothing like this. I don't seem to find anything interesting in them, either discussions are way too serious and the mods can block you from posting response just like that, or I don't feel like making a friend at all since they are rude to new people. So I'm glad I found mylot, someone in the other forum mentioned that there is a site like this. I did a search and found mylot. Now I'm more comfortable here after 5 months and making good friends I would never meet somewhere else.

My main reason at myLot is to make the extra $$ in the begining... But later on, I've anaged to make a few discussion friends that I find worthy of just chill out about some topics here and there.....

I come here just to interact with the people and the discussions here. I don't have a great deal of venting to do and when I do I can open some windows....:}. I enjoy my time here and I have fun when I am here....I also manage to learn stuff here. For me there is no need, it is just fun.

This is not an escape for me. I feel I will never solve any problem by trying to escape from it. I don't have much to vent about because not much angers me. It isn't worth getting upset because 99% of the time it isn't worth getting upset. And beleive me, I have what you would call some serious problems in my life. But I don't want to come on here and talk about them. Because I don't want sympathy. I need answers for my difficulties and in truth, I am the only one who can solve my problems. And what is great is that all my difficulties are fixable. I know I can fix them in time and it is my responsibility to do so. I have lived alone for much of my life, but I am far from lonely. By replying to topics, I can see how I am thinking and understand more about my thought process. Then I can see how I think and decide to make changes. Whatever you write on here is a reflection of how you think. As I go from post to post, I can see how people think. I am not here to judge that, only to learn more about myself. I have no attachment to this site, other than it is available to me if I want to use it.

Mmmm...well okay...so it's against your principles to discuss the difficulties in your life as you say you don't want sympathy...Now I used to keep a tight lip about my problems too...never for instance mentioning my disability problems...but then somewhere along the line I may have gone the other route and began opening up and discussing my problems...not for sympathy by any means...the wonderful thing I discovered was because prior to opening up,I thought I was alone with my problems, but then it was like a door opened...I wasn't alone...everyone but everyone has some turmoil in their lives--no one is immune...and by discovering that I no longer felt alone

I love coming here to be with my friends and to get help with some of life's lovely problems. I also like to come here when I've had a particularly bad day. Even though I have close friends that don't live very far away, sometimes it's easier to come to my friends here to be cheered up, and to get advice. And....yes....it's an awesome way to escape for a little while. There! You got it out of me! LOL

Oh..like I forced you to answer...hehehe.....I have close friends too only a phone call away...or a little walk away...but not being much of a phone person to begin with it's sometimes so much easier to communicate here with my friends here and it can be so amazing how much we all have in common here despite the differences in cultures

I come here to replace the therapy I can't afford right now? =p Seriously, there are a lot of things that are hard to talk about to people offline, or that I just never get a chance to. My social life has greatly dwindled in the past couple of years, between health problems and having a child. So I like coming online because I can talk to people and make friends while still being home with my son, or in the limited time I have between being with him and working. I think the other thing I really like about mylot is that I get to talk to a lot of people interested in things I am, or who have the same issues I do. Where I live there aren't many pagans, there aren't many people into anime or some of my other interests, and some of my health problems are rare enough I've only found other people with them online.

Well, I actually have had a couple of therapists that were very helpful, but I've also had a bunch that weren't. The first one I had (when I was a little kid) I swear made my problems much worse than they would have been if I hadn't gone to him. As for the pagan thing, the pagan community here is very cliquish, what there is of it. And even those people tend to not want to actually do anything, it's just kind of a social group. I went to a meeting at a coffeeshop once, and actually wanting to talk about pagan things there, but they said "We don't actually talk about those things because we don't want any one to hear us." Grrr.

Believe me you're not missing anything by not going to therapy--LOL---I actually am going to a therapist and it's boring as hell...for my particular disability...panic disorder with agoraphobia, going to a therapist's office to yak doesn't do s**t---I used to have a therapist that made home visits and took me out to places...sure wish I could find another like that...he was one of those sliding scale therapists and didn't take Medicaid--most don't (take Medicaid that is) and sliding scale would be out of bounds money wide for me--thank goodness though I'm no longer housebound, but still have far to go in overcoming this problem...As far as fellow pagans...I have the opposite...there are a lot of places to go to, but since I still can't travel distances I can't really interact with others --so it's nice that there is the pagan/wicca section here so I can be in contact with fellow "born again pagans"

I definitely use myLot as a lot of things. I have met so many wonderful, fascinating people here that I enjoy "talking" to. I feel like I have friends all over the world! I spend time here when I am bored. I spend time here when I am lonesome or frustrated. I log on when I am blue and I post something about it and get so many supportive responses. I get to share the good things with people and get glad responses. I vent when I am frustrated or angry and again, my friend sympathize. I probably spend way too much time here! But I do enjoy it.

I don't remember how I came to mylot, but I do know I love it here. This is the first discussion group I have been in. I didn't know what to expect. I was surprised to find friends list and everything. I used to hang out on yahoo 360 & blog. I still stop by there once in awhile. I was on myspace, but I closed my page, because it's just to superfical over there. I really love the mylot community. I have learned alot from being here. I do sometimes come here when I'm feeling down, and it tends to cheer me up. I have met a lot of really nice people here!!

There is absolutely no doubt that for me MyLot is filling a void. I have been going through some rough times and I have turned to this site for advice at times. The advice I have received is very thoughtful. I really do like this site. And yes...the money is a little added bonus...but certainly not the reason to come here. cheers,

I come here to see how my friends are doing because when you talk to someone everyday you become a part of their life. I think so anyway. And yes sometimes I like to vent if there is something going on in my life. I think its good to talk about things if your upset about something it helps to talk. And if I need some advice on something I know I can get some good information here at mylot. Its also nice to get alittle something for it too.LOL

You know Pye, I can't really explain it. For sure, I'm addicted to the place, first thing I do is come on-line and over time I get coffees, look after animals, do bathroom things, make brekky, get dressed etc. If I wake in the nmiddle of the night and am really awake I come on here. I can't really explain it. I'm not lonely, so that doesn't fit in, I don't vent my frustrations too often, Id still come on I think even without the financial bonus, I do bare my soul a lot as I find the anonymity allows me to speak my mind here without the fear of being judged. Maybe that's my need. Just to have someone (somewhere) I can pour my heart out to. The curious part of me also loves learning about how others think and feel too.

I do think that the anonymity is the greatest factor of all....I can very freely speak my mind and thoughts to my close friends in the outside world, but somehow I can reveal more here, and as you say not be judged, since as I've discovered a lot of us are going through the same experiences...and what a wonderful feeling that is that we're not alone

Hello pyewacket. My experience with mylot was like a roller coaster at first. I was so hyped up partaking in any of the discussions I saw and didn't have any "real" friends yet. Eventually, I found friends who did more than fill my need. They became my inspiration to hang on. I even have some select few one who are not on my list but we always respond and respect each other's threads. It is not my nature to post thread that are way too personal. I am a very private bunny and personal matter is shared through PM, emails or chatting only. I only vent on matters that have to do with mylot.

I normally don't like to blurt out personal things about myself either, but every once in awhile I do especially if it's a response to a discussion in which I feel the need to give an example of what I need to do in order to express myself better for that discussion.

If i am lonely i find friendship and when i am down i find things on here that either help me with my problems or something that makes me smile. Yes mylot does help fill my needs and i thank all mylotters for that.
