Yes when you use charcoal the cemicals that are in the charcoal gets released in the smoke and gets on the food not to mention that you are also putting lighter fluid on the charcoal that you deal with the fumes of that. When you use gas you dont get that kind of stuff. Hugs!

There's nothing like charcoal and a little wood added to the mix for me. We have a small bbq, so we can't use propane. Besides, I'm not sure that I'd trust myself with it!

Charcoal please. I Know it's probably in my head but the food tastes better when I use charcoal instead of gas. My husband's uncle has a gas bbq and I find that I appreciate more the same food cooked in our charcoal bbq than on his gas one.
I also like the smell, it brings me back to the great picnics when I was a kid:)

Charcoal all the way. I like the smell and I like the flavor that charcoal adds to the meat/food.
Gas is fine, you taste more of the meat, granted. I suppose you can also purchase flavored coals or hickory wood blocks to add to the flavor but I hate having to deal with switching and buying the propane.
It really sucks to run out of propane when your food is half cooked.

True, at least with charcoal you won't even light it if there isn't enough. With propane unless you buy one of those adapters to add to your tank you will run out while cooking at some point. Serious grillers usually keep a back up tank filled and handy. The rest of us turn on the stove in the kitchen at that point, LOL!
