'All work and play makes Jack a dull boy ' is meaningful axiom. If every activity of a child is academically oriented, they will detest their studies. This dislike even boomerang on the parents' ambition about the child. Let children learn while they play with their peers as well.

No way. I would say that learning how to play is equally important. Look at how many adults don't know how to entertain themselves. A life of leisure is much preferable to a life of hard work. Hard physical work never pays that well. Plasytime is always welcome since life is meant to be fun.

Playing with others like playmates of my child seems leisurely activities with them and somehow educational too because seeing them playing dolls and acting like there are sisters and trying to do some story telling with their dolls. And sometimes they apply what they learned from schools. I can see they are trying to communicate right and has develop self confident how to relate to each other.

Children should be allowed to just play and be a kid sometimes. Its hard because the schools want them to learn so much more nowadays. There are also many educational toys out there that you can buy that will help learning while the child thinks he/she is playing.

Children's activities should be a mixed bag - studies, sports, reading, drawing, philately, etc. whichever interests them more. The activities which are non academic also help the thinking and mental growth of the children and develops them.

No I don't think it should just be focused on educational play that is just a bonus. It should be fun if a child can't have fun then whats the point of being a kid? Alot of toys out there no matter what will teach them something.

I agree with you completely. I think it is important to have intellectually sound activities some of the time, but I think that there is much to be said for just being a kid, for being silly and having fun. In fact, I think that this holds true for "kids" of all ages. We have to have mental breaks. Letting off some steam is crucial to our focus and ultimate success.

I totally agree with you on that. That way they would love learning alot more and not detest it at all.

Playing is a child's primary work. They do not have to be educated, but are educating themselves when they play. Every experience is an education. It will wear them out to always be taken to something educational, and make them burn out.

The classroom hours of children are purely training hours and they feel a mental pressure for these hours. Beyond classroom hours are free hours and these hours can be planned to 'learn while play' manner to make education more interesting as well as effective in life. Besides these, a major portion of the leisure hours of a student must be planned for any type of creative work, that suits to the interest and taste of the student also! The effect of education received with interest and freedom of mind is peerless and this type of learning brings geneius from very common students. Thanks

There are so many games out that children like to play that you don't have to worry. My daughter loved to play on the computer so I bought her jumpstart to first grade and so on up to the six grade. She liked the games even though they were teaching her something at the same time. I think that this is something that depends on the child. when my daughter had friends over some times we playsed learning games and other times just fun games.

Learning activities are great but children need to just be allowed to play at times too. It helps increase their imaginations, which some don't need that to grow. LOl But you are right if everything has as academic orientation then they will get bored quickly.

Absolutely not! My boy has a lot of educational things. He of course has school, then there are the educational toys he has. We have reading time when I read to him and help him to read. We have painting time when we paint and do our letters but there are definitely times when he is just a kid and plays just for the sake of playing and laughing and having fun. I understand we all want our kids to be smart so that things in life will be easier, they'll get that university scholarship, they'll get the degree, get the great job, not have to worry so much about money for bills, they won't be laughed at or called "dummy" in school but.. they are kids. Our childhood is supposed to be fun and carefree. Too much of our adult life is spent stressing and groping and trying to be good and have a job and excel and go go go that there is no way childhood should be about that AT ALL! I want my boy to be a child for as long as possible. It's really, the best times of our lives. No stress, no job, no bills, no social expectations, just boys and girls playing and having fun.

i think children should be able to learn and still enjoy it. all work and no fun will make a person dull, they say. childrend should be allowed to be creative, it will come naturally.

Children should be allowed to be children. Or course studies are important but a social life is a very important part of growing up. There should be some sort of balance.

Yes, I agree. I actually think many children will learn more from curiosity and play, then they ever will in the classroom.

I believe to let the children have fun when they play. I would prefer my children to separate play and learn altogether. Sometimes, without us realising, the children do learn while they are playing with their other peers. They instinctively learn how to interact with one another without us teaching them. That's the beauty of playing.. Children learn how to interact and communicate at the same time..

Children should be given a certain amount of leisure so that they will not be bored by books and studies alone. It breaks the monotony of a student life.

I totally agree. Children need a chance to be kids. They will learn a bunch of things just playing and having fun with their friends. I think putting to much emphasis on learning will turn the kids off wanting to learn. I do think it is possible to turn an educational trip into a fun time and the kids not even realize that they are learning. Such as trips to museums and historical places.
