Have you been paying attention to Hillary in the news?

It's hard to keep up with everything, but I try to read or at least skim articles about the presidential candidates. Hillary is certainly changing her tune somewhat. She is now saying that her faith and dependence on God was what got her through Bill's infidelity. Don't I remember her having psychics in the White House? And after working hard to portray herself as a middle of the road conservative, she is now renouncing her support for the Defense of Marriage Act that her husband put into law in 1996. This next year is certainly going to be an interesting one! We're going to have to pay attention and stay on our toes to keep up! http://www.onenewsnow.com/2007/06/sen_clinton_other_democrats_as.php

Hillary's problem with moving right to left is that she underestimated her democrat canidates. When she realized that it was time for her to start preparing for her presidential run about 4 years ago, she realized that she needed to be like her husband and position herself with towards the middle. The problem is that 4 years ago, Obama wasn't even a senator, and Edwards seemed to be an out of work politian. It almost looked like Hillary wouldn't have any competition. Back then, her competition looked to be Conservative Democrat Governor from Virginia, Mark Warner. Mark was going to force Hillary to the middle at least, but an affair made Governor Warner step aside. This allowed Hillary to move as far to the center as she wanted too. But here came the liberal democrates. Obama and Edwards have been successful in garnering enough support that it has forced Hillary to move from her positions. Remember there used to be a Pro-War Democrat she was going to run as a pro-war democrat. She called a time table withdrawl irresponsible. Now she has voted to cut off all funds for the war. Obviously she is positioning herself so that she isn't out flanked on the left. The issue about religion is simple. It makes you look presidental. The american people want a president that believes in God. It makes them comfortable with the politican.

I am sure she will say that things have changed since 1996 and so she is changing her views. Or maybe she is hoping that voters will not remember the Defense of Marriage Act. Yes, it will be an interesting election year. I look forward to it. Its about time politics got interesting. I hope that the candidates stay in the primaries and don't wimp out after the first few primaries. I hate it when we already know who is going to get their party's nomination in April, months before the summer national conventions.

She knows that if she is against DOMA she might get some gay votes. The lady is a joke. She put up with Clinton's betrayal due to political reasons. She does not have a back bone. Her morals are too weak to be President.

The public showed us that morals weren't an issue with them when they voted in Bill for 2 terms. Thanks goodness the conservatives woke up and voted after that. As for her back bone...I think she has plenty of it to spare...she just has her own agenda and she's not going to tell anyone what that is!

I'm not happy with any of the candidates, as usual, but just wanted to try and explain why I think the candidates (especially the non-republicans) are bringing religion into their "campaigns" recently. Even Obama has made some recent statement about how "I am my brother's keeper". I believe they are all attempting to do what the republicans have been very skilled in doing for some time...getting the religious communities to "stand behind them" BECAUSE of the hot air they spew out about believing in this or that theological concept. It is just another way to entice more followers, and I think most people agree that those who are stuck on believing nonsensical tales of man-made biblical concepts are some of the largest groups, while also being some of the easiest groups to sway - if candidates say just the right things to make them "think" their religions and beliefs even matter to them, or that they agree with their views.

Any politician who is running for office will vasilate on sensitive issues like religion, the war, taxes, healthcare, etc. I noticed that a lot of the Republicans are distancing themselves from the President because none of them want to support a costly war. Like you said though, we will all have to pay close attention and try to read between the lines.

Unfortunately, I don't pay attention to news or politics as much as I should. I started a discussion on the Presidential canditates as a way to get me caught up on things. I also added "politics" to my interestests just now. I'm hoping that hearing about peoples political opinions through mylot will help give me a good first step towards catching up on things... As far as Hilary...I receive a lot of e-mails jokes that are very anti-Hilary...I've wondered why I get so many more about her than any other candidate. I suspect that these e-mails are mostly male driven, but I don't know enough about the issues to make that judgement with complete certaintly. As far as God and having psychics in the Whitehouse...It think that many people don't just have one simple believe about religion and/or spirituality. I realize that Presidential candidated should seem committed to one idea or ideal, but I think that is often a dishonest thing that they are trying to project. Regarding the Defense of marriage act...I never even knew there was such an act. I would have to read up on it, in order to give a good reply on that one. Thanks for this post. It has helped me to become a little bit more informed. I look forward to more discussions from you on politics.

Boy, she is certainly going to get a lot of exercise, jumping on bandwagons. I thought only chameleons could change color so easily. Thanks estherlou for helping keep us on our toes about our lady Mrs. Clinton. She might fool us after all. I always look forward to reading your posts, even if I do not respond to them all. I have another friend who is also good in this way. I hope you have a great day today.

She will have to learn how to control herself before I consider voting for her. She rants and raves way too much. Not very becoming of a future president.

Honestly I dont trust Hillery. She changes her mind too often. She says whatever she things the people want to hear and she is too critical of otheres. I think they should be working together in the government not fighting and taking our money to pay themselves when they do nothing. t

Hillary is merely following what she believes the overriding public opinions are. This is how the Clintons operate. They see what the polls say and then that is the position they take. Even when BJ was in office, he determined very quickly that the country wanted a change from the usual democratic stance so he co-opted the republicans platform when they routed the democrats in the '94 election. Even then, Hillary had already attempted the bloated and ill-fated "Cradle to Grave healthcare plan that would have completely socialized healthcare...which is a very liberal idea and shows that while both of the Clintons tried to paint themselves as centrists, they were really on the liberal side of the political spectrum. The only reason that Hillary is against the Defense of Marriage Act is because it is now politically correct and acceptable to do so...just as it is now politically correct and acceptable to be against the war in Iraq. The political stance and belief of the Clintons change in the winds of public opinion...that is why BJ was such a popular president although he wasn't a very good one. Although Hillary has tried to portray herself as a middle of the road conservative, she has always been liberal.

Everything you say is very true, but there are so many out there that think it is a good idea to have a woman as president no matter who, or who will believe everything she says at face value! A scary thought!

I've already turned a blind eye towards Hillary for the most part. Hurrah for her to turn against the Defense of Marriage Act, but I still don't like a lot of her policies - one of which is an increase of minimum wage. Why she wants this, I don't know- anyone with a basic knowledge of economics will know this will cause inflation. Don't get me wrong, some of her policies are pretty good...but others are, well, not. My opinion is, there are other fish in the sea with more to offer.

I don't keep up with the political things, but some things do filter through. I don't like anyone I see currently in the running. I don't trust any of them, and I believe we are in a sad state. I don't remember if Hillary had psychics in the White House, but I think Nancy Regan did.

In poltics there is nothing wrong and nothing is right, no friend no foe. Only thing that matters is the time and the oppertunity. As far as paying attention to her, then it is not much. Only that i knows is that she is a candidate for the post of presiddent.

It's all politics, the dirt starts coming out around this time and candidates start changing their views just to get the popular vote. Happens every election, we just start seeing it more as we get older and pay attention more. So much controversy in the government, look at the war issues. CRAZY !!!

I believe it was Nancy Reagan who had the psychics in the white house or at least she was the one that consulted them. I never heard that off Hillary. I have heard she is a church goer. They are all a bunch of liars anyway. Makes it real hard to pick. But I do believe anyone would be better then the one we have in there now.

She made her comments about her faith at a specifically religious forum organized by a liberal religious group, The Sojourners. The NY Times reported it on June 4. Edwards and Obama were there too. I can't recall Hilary every saying anything about her faith or not, and I personally respect that she has largely chosen to keep her faith private and personal (there are many others I wish would follow such an example). Would she have come out with some profession of faith unprompted by such a forum? I dunno. I personally feel that she's too conservative. I don't like people who profess "middle of the road" type beliefs. Every "centrist" or "bipartisan" legislation I can think of has been total crap, with the possible exception of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform law, but it really didn't go far enough either. Yes, there are times for caution and comprimise, but they can only be made properly when you've got a greater goal in mind. Comprimise for its own sake is never good for anyone. I don't hear any greater goals from her. Anyone who wants to lead the country should be able to tell us what they'd like to do, where, exactly, they'd like to lead us to.

She is just taking a page out of Obama's book. He made a statement of faith and his popularity was boosted, she is following suit. Gee, I don't remember her mentioning anything about faith or God when good old Bill was having fun in the Oval Office with his intern.

First of all Politicians will say anything they think will get them votes. As the wind blows so goes their comments .The best way to choose a candidate is to check out there voting records in the House of Representatives and THE SENATE. Watch C-SPAN if you've got cable television and see them in action. You may get a better idea of who goes along to get along and those that truly have an agenda that your willing to support. Hillary thinks she's destined to be the first female to the WHITE HOUSE....not going to happen .

I agree. They all change there tunes when the polls give their percentage of support. I heard her say she wants Bush to pull out of Iraq....she should have told her husband to pull out too...I think infidelity is unexcusable. If someone will excuse the greates trust we should have in our lives I wonder what else she would excuse. Very interesting.
