Does anyone have a Greenhouse?

I am designing a large commercial sized passive solar greenhouse to build on our property, and I'm really excited about it. Who on here already operates a greenhouse, and what do you enjoy growing in it?

Nope. I guy who used to live to doors down from parents used to have one. He grew a lot of things and used to give my parents some of them for nothing, I always thought the greenhouse was cool because it used to attract foxes. Kudos, ~Joey *Waves ~

I don't have a greenhouse at my place; however, my brother has 5 greenhouses. He grows nursery plants and one of the greenhouses is full of Hostas. When I visit him, I weed in the greenhouses, which always have plenty of work to do keeping them looking good.

I did and loved it. Like I was told, make it bigger than you think you will need and then you might have enough space. I had one as part of my house and that was wonderful. I also had one in the yard that was a pop up for when they were transitioning to the garden once started in the home greenhouse. They take work and are something to monitor during the winter. You also need to keep an eye to the sky since winds and hail are big enemies of greenhouses. Mine was for flowers and vegetables. Yours being passive will need a double glazing or double layer of plastic. To withstand the cold days of winter. Still you will be able to grow some things year round. Study and try things. Good luck!

Wo! That's an ambitious project. I wish I could get some solar heating in my greenhouse but I suppose it's just too small (8 x 6). The things I enjoy raising most in there are tomatoes and cucumbers. I have a fig tree and a kiwi fruit plant in there too, they seem to like the short British summer better in there!

I do have a greenhouse in my medium sized garden, but it no near as posh or as big as yours. Mine is a £10 job from a shop called QD in UK. Its a small upright one with three sheleves in it, you can't even walk into it!! Ha Ha. It has a plastic covering. It is very good and suits my needs. I have grown quite a lot of seeds in it and they are now planted out in the garden. In the winter I tend to store gardening things on the sheleves. I would love to have a big walk in greenhouse but I don't have the room and three young children under the age of 11 so glass would not be a good idea for me.

I won't be making a glass greenhouse. Too windy out here where I live, if the glass failed, I'd have an awful mess on my hands. I plan on doing a double layer of 6 mil poly, inflated, either with a fan, or using a wind tunnel. It still could tear in the wind, but I can roll up the sides when I need more ventilation, and never any worries of broken glass.
