I found this site that gives wacky examples of what people put on their answering machines as messages and thought I'd share some with you.
The site for all of them is at:
http://www.ahajokes.com/funny_answering_machine_messages.html
Here are a few of my favorites I found:
Thank you for calling 217-2962. If you wish to speak to Tim, push 1 on your touch tone phone now. If you wish to speak to Lynn, push 2 on your touch tone phone now. If you have a wrong number, push 3 on your touch tone phone now. All of this button pushing doesn't do anything, but it is a good way to work off anger, and it makes us feel like we have a big time phone system.
Hello. You are talking to a machine. I am capable of receiving messages. My owners do not need siding, windows, or a hot tub, and their carpets are clean. They give to charity through the office and don't need their picture taken. If you're still with me, leave your name and number and they will get back to you.
Rod Serling imitation: You're dazed, bewildered, trapped in a world without time, where sound collides with color and shadows explode. You see a signpost up ahead -- this is no ordinary telephone answering device... You have reached, "The Twilight Phone".
Sorry, Chris and Susan aren't here right now. Please leave your name and number after the tone. If you are calling regarding an outstanding debt, please leave your message before the tone.
This is not an answering machine--this is a telepathic thought-recording device. After the tone, think about your name, your reason for calling, and a number where I can reach you, and I'll think about returning your call.
Then a friend of mine, Cherie told me this one.
"Hi. I'm trying to avoid talking to someone. Please leave your name and phone number. If I don't call you back....it's you"
How about you--have you heard some bizarre phone messages??

Back in the late '70's my then roommate worked looking for people to buy burgler bars. One of the numbers she called had this message:
It started with 3 barks of a dog
"This is my dog Jack,
He lives in the grass.
If you don't leave a message,
He'll bite you in the *beep*"
the message beep sounded.

LOL! Nice one. It's funny. I like when people use the 'beep' as part of their message.

Well they already think I'm a bit daft :) So no harm there. And if others think I am so be it.

LOL! I loved the Twilight Phone one!!
The funny thing is one of my sister in laws has a message very similar to the avoid talking to someone message. I can't remember exactly what it says but it's extrememly similar.
I keep saying one day I'm going to change my voice mail to the corus of 'Spiderwebs' by No Doubt.
"(Yeah) Sorry I'm not home right now
I'm walking into spiderwebs
So leave a message
And I'll call you back
A likely story, but (Yeah) leave a message
And I'll call you back"
Those who actually know me would know it was my phone and leave a message...the others? Who cares? LOL.

I cant really remember any particular ones, but I used to do work where I had to call people and remind them of appointments they had with the company for the following day and we would always get funny answering machines or those annoying ones that come on over the top of the ring and you aren't sure if you are on hold or what lol. my mum's annoys me though cos she says oh hello then pauses and you think she is there until she says leave a message lol. it always has me answering back

We used to do joke answering machine messages, Halloween ones were especially good. Also the ones where you answered like you were there but either people kept calling to hear them, sometimes we got 40 or 50 hangups in a day or they would leave messages telling us they were mean.
We stopped.

We have had two messages that I always liked. My brother did them both with his voice. The first one he imitated Dr. Evil from Austin Powers and he made the message long just saying random stuff. Like "throw me a frickin bone" and stuff. THe second one was my fave, this is how it sounded...
"Hello" (pause) "yeah just a second."
And you won't believe how well it worked. The pause was just enough time for whoever called to ask for someone, and then it says "yeah just a second" so the people think they are getting that person.
One day the phone rang when we had that message and I didn't feel like answering. So I let it ring. I herad the machine go off...
"Hello"
"Hi, is Bre there?"
"Yeah just a second."
Well...i'm Bre and it was the guy I babysat for. I was like CRAP! lol. I jumped up so fast before it beeped! lol. I caught it just in time, he never knew it was the machine! =P

Have to love this, phone messages are so boring and it is nice to hear something different. I made a different one for my machine when I had one. I do like to be different...lol

What is worse is getting the messages from companies and they all say, press 1 for this, press 2 for that ...those I really hate

Lol this is to cute! As you know my daughter and 3 grandkids live with me, and I would love to put a smart remark on my phone. I like the Rod Serling imitation! Hey they may think this is a Kooky house and never want to call back again, which is just fine with me lol. God I want to put a funny message on my phone, but with all the important calls , it kinda puts a damper on my parade. Well if I do I will have to do the push the button thing also, so they think they are leaving a message " evil grin on this one" Hehe.

Two that I know of from experience. The most annoying was: "Hello? (long pause) ..." & then mentioning that no one was able to take the call. That was tricky because this guy always answered the phone & you never really knew if it was really being answered or if it was the answering machine.
The other one was using a friend saying that they reached (pause, apparently to read off the phone number) & saying, "whoever you're trying to call is out & we're ransacking & robbing the place." The funniest thing - or maybe NOT so funny - was someone actually called the police to say that his house was being robbed.
