Hubby and Housemate are going to Quit Smoking.

It will be an easier task for my hubby to quit smoking as he only smokes cigars and doesn't inhale. Gregg on the other hand smokes cigarettes and has for many years. They were discussing quitting and have set the date for Sunday as the day they will start. Gregg has agreed, but I hear a bit of hesitation in his voice. He did say that he doesn't think it will be that hard. The only thing he will need to do is to find something to do to fill that hand to mouth habit. I suggested sugarfree lollipops. I hope that they are successful. Hubby has quit smoking cigars in the past only to start back up again. I know that Gregg has never been successful in quitting.

I wish them all the best and much successs. I know it is very hard. Do you think you cam find a way to reward them for successes along the way? They need both daily and weekly rewards.

Other than rewards I can bake for them I can't think of much to offer. It would be a good thing to offer a good baked good that I know takes some effort to make.

I am not much for massaging feet. Yuck. I think I will stick to the baking!

What about the hands and shoulders? Can't you even do your hubby's feet for such a worthy cause? How about taking over a chore one time as a reward?

there is a pill on the market now called Chantix (not sure of the spelling) and it looks very promising to those who want to quit. The problem is getting insurances to cover it.

I wish them the best of luck. Also to be careful to not gain weight which is another struggle if they are not careful. They will feel better and I hope that it becomes clear the more they stick with their plans. I hope you will cheerlead for them.. :) Take care and good luck to you all.

I am a nonsmoker and have encouraged them both to do this for a long time. Although they both smoke outside, they still bring the smell of smoke back indoors with them.

Oh good for them- Be sure to be supportive! Lollipops are great- sugar free hard candy also-- chewing gum. How are they doing so far? I've never smoked so I don't know first hand how hard it is- But I hear it's a bear- So good for them!

Well quittinq is possible. Why doesn't he put on the Nicoderm CQ patch and find something to do at the same time. He could play Nintendo Wii since it's fun and entertaining and he'll eventually forget about smoking because he won't want to stop playing.

Well as you can see from my avatar i dont smoke lol Put your husband on a check get him nicotine patches and few sleeping pills so that he doesn't get up at night and carry on with his business. Try to limit his going to unprohibited smoking areas such as a pub and try to kiss him when comes back home only for checking his breath best of luck

It is good that if there are two smokers in the one house, that they are both giving up at the same time. It would be too hard for one otherwise. Being a smoker myself, and haven only given about three times in many years, I am not in a good position to offer advice. Perhaps Greg could have a piece of carrpt or celery in his hand... Those nicobate & nicotene patchs are much cheaper nowadays. I have heard that drinking copiuos quantities of orange juice, helps eliminate the cravings. Good Luck to them both.

Congrats to both of them! I hope they are both successful. Is Gregg using something like the Patch? I imagine it would be very difficult to go cold turkey if he has been a smoker for many years.

There is always a first time to be successful. One of the users on my friends list has quit for five weeks now. She did get the welbutrin to take while she needed it. PM me, and I will tell you who. She is a walking testimonial for improved health and cash flow. I have not been a smoker, so I really have not had to quit. I have had loved ones that were, and to quote my late husband, who quit only when he could not puff them himself "I wish I had done this years ago". He did not die of smoking related issues, but the nursing home he was admitted to had a no smoking policy. Give them lots of encouragement from all of us here.
