How many people would use Internet Explorer if it wasn't included with Windows?

Internet explorer seems to me to be THE worst browser on the market, so why do people continue to use it? Because its included with windows. If, on the first time windows connects to the internet you were prompted to choose what browser to use, how many people would choose IE? The sad thing is that some people don't even realize that there are others; if you delete the IE icon off of their desktop, they think that the entire internet has crashed. (What a disaster!) (By the way, that reminds me of the classic 'user' phrase: "The internet is down". If the internet goes down for so much as a second, you won't be the first to notice; you'll be hearing about it on the world news)

You know, although I like Bill Gates and do not actually have a problem with IE (except for the fact that I know that Microsoft often funnels information to big brother), I would like to have the option of chosing my own internet browser, rather than be forced with an internet browser! I like to know that I selected a particular service for my personal usage!

I think there is no way I can't use IE because intranet requires it. But I have been using mozilla, ff and opera. They all work well than IE over the internet. Although there are site and links which actually requires IE, most of the site doesn't care on what browser am on. God bless!

I would prefer Firefox as well. The reason would be simple, less crashes, less bugs, less pointless updates that fix nothing. Yes, if Firfox was the one that came with the computer I will use it without a doubt over IE 7.0.

I don't use it much. I tend to use Yahoo Browser or Mozilla. It just depends on the mood I'm in exactly and which one I feel like using. I probably wouldn't use Internet Explorer just because it can be a pain in the neck.

i truly agree, whenever i buy a pc/notebook, the first thing i do is download either opera/mozilla. I cant stand IE...it sucks for sure. i think MS is busy copying features from Mozilla and opera...In vista the IE seems improved, but it still sucks... i will never use IE no matter how much they improve it.!

I'm going to have to agree with you. I've never really liked Internet Explorer. I have tried some other ones that are so much better and so far ahead and faster than IE. I'm currently using Safari at work because they finally made it for windows and I figured I'd check it out. Pretty nice.

I prefer Firefox and Opera. I have to use Internet Explorer because the Windows Update does not work without it. Even the new one is so slow, that is the one with the tabs. Also the tabs are not as easily managed as the one in Firefox.

I know there are other browsers out there. I really do not mind IE. I have used it for a majority of the time I've used a computer. Used a couple hours here and there. I've never had any issues with IE so I figure why change.

I would. Of course you are right when talking of previous versions of IE. But there isn't anything to blame with IE 7. Together with the Live Toolbar it's simply fine. So slim, so useful, so easy to configure for any taste. Get it!
