When life hands you lemons, throw them at somebody!!

Do you make lemonade or do you throw lemons at peo - Do you make lemonade or do you throw lemons at people?

I heard this little quote and almost died laughing. We all know the original, "when life hands you lemons, make lemonade." But just how easy is it to do that? I was discussing some things with a co worker last night and we touched on the subject of what we do in life when something goes wrong. Do we wallow in self pity, or do we learn from it and better ourselves? It is no secret with my friends here, I had a horrible childhood. I have been through many things in my life. Enough that my husband often marvels that I am not addicted to drugs or an alcoholic like my father. I guess you can say I made the lemonade. I have always taken the things that have darkened my door step and turned them into learning experiences. I am a better mother because of what I endured, and because I want my children to have better. I am a better wife, because of the changes I went through in my own marriage. I am a good budgeter because of financial difficulty I have faced. I have mad lemonade from my lemons. I would like to share some words I wrote, regarding this subject if you don't mind: The rain silently falls,The storms come and go. The lightning strikes close,Closer than you know. You can try to outrun it,But it's moving in fast. No sense in running,It soon will blow past. Sometimes we must deal,With the storms life brings. The sun emerges from the clouds,And the bird always sings. We all get soaked in our lives,Standing in the pouring rain. Have faith that the storm shall pass,Taking with it all your pain. Thanks for indulging me a bit there. Now, here's my question to you. Do you make lemonade, or do you throw lemons at people???

When life gives you lemons, put a slice in your Corona. Or make Margarita XD Anyways I tend to be a bit pessimistic sometimes but not too much I am not easy to get mad or anything and I don't keep grudges very long. I guess when life gives me lemons I keep one for throwing and make some lemonade from the rest, especially during the hot summer months ... Anyways, I am sorry to hear that you had a bad childhood as that is what usually causes life long damage to people emotionally and many times mentally in people. I am glad you were able to 'squeeze' out all the bad in your life and make some lemonade. Very good discussion by the way. Rated +.

oh michelle, this was so good!! i am glad that you have posted this. thanx sweetie. here is my story (in short ofcourse). i had a wonderful childhood with all love, care, lavish, education...i couldnot have asked for more. we, 3 sisters, all were groomed in the right environment. i was happy. then things took a different turn, i married a guy, a year older than me when i was 19. he was a nice guy but somehow it didn't work properly. withy marriage came some unwanted, untackable tags which i couldn't manage. soon, before realising it started straining with the intervention of third person (my mother-in-law). i have severed ultimately. donot know if this is preparing lemonade with lemons or not. but i have tried to face things with strength and dignity. i have learned a lot from my past and now i am a better person. thanx for a nice, thoughtful discussion.

I guess I've sucked the lemons. I was (am) a lousy mother, and not very good at picking husbands and probably been my own worst enemy throughout life. But I keep getting up when I get knocked down and I keep trying and having a go. That must count for something...lol.

Thank you so much for your comment on my poem. I am quite shy normally with my writing. I have been my own worst enemy as well. And I seriously doubt you are a lousy mother. You must think more positively about yourself. Just from what I have seen and read here, I know you are a good, intelligent person !!!

Life is full of ups and downs, success and failure intermingle in one's life. We will be happy to encounter success and sad while we face failure. It is quite natural. But success should not make us to develop some kind of pride within us, or failure should not push us to dejection and total disappointment. We should take both as experiences from which we have to learn things. Lessons from such experiences could lead us in the correct direction. That poem you wrote is wonderful. It conveys the correct message. Congrats.

Hi misheleen! we also have quote here "if somebody throw you bread, throw it back to him but dont forget to put a sandwich spread",hahaha. Here's a serious quote "behind the clouds the sun is still shining"That whatever storms come into our lives as long as we have faith in God sure we can always get out into that. I make lemonade of course, tryin to be a better mother and wife, and hope someday i can be a better budgeter too like you, actually am starting to learn that now, coz i know that nowadays money is not that easy to get you need to work hard to make money, maybe am so thankful for the life that i have and still having because God never forget to help me all the way, of course we all have difficulties and my family have that too, i still remember 2years ago when my mother in law pronounced by our doctor with a br**st cancer on her left br**st, this news actually darkens our bright world, the happiness turn into worries and doubts, thinking of the possibilities that would come while she is the operating room, there are no days that past that we dont shed our tears in worry for her, but we're all so thankful then and now she is in good health and looks like nothing happens to her two years ago. This only shows that behind the clouds the sun is still shining..

Hello monkey. This is the first time that I heard about this lemon quote. But I can easily change it to carrots, now do I. The poems you wrote were well written and accurately put together. Now that you mentioned this quote, I was thinking, I was subjected by someone who threw the lemons on me yesterday. Not only did that someone hit it right to the core of me, that someone squeezed the lemon and splashed it all over my head. What did I do? I gently wiped the lemon away and prepare my own lemonade. What was the reason why that someone did it. Pride, arrogant and proud. I've been making lemonade for so long now that I wouldn't know if its the right taste or not. If it taste good, then you're on the right track. If it taste bad, then better add some sugar. Life shouldn't be full of sour things. There should be something sweet in every walks of our lives.

I like the idea of throwing the lemons at somebody, because I've made so much lemonade that the inside of my mouth is permanently puckered! I don't know if I'll get the chance to try, misheleen, because lately, your monkey has been stealing the lemons and throwing them at the kids next door before I get the chance. First my banana, now my lemons, where, oh, where does it end? ps I like your poem, its very good and very true.

I try to make the best of every situation. I believe that we can learn from other peoples mistakes as well as our own. When something happens to me I try to figure out what the life lesson could be. There are things that have happened to me in the past that I could have allowed to ruin my life. But for me that would just be quiting. I am not a quitter and I will fight for what I think is right. I admit that people who blame others for the things that go wrong in their lives annoy me and I do sometimes throw a lemon at them but I think that someone needs to help those type of people out in realizing that they are the ones who decided which path to take in life.

Mish you are a very bright person and you made lemon aid to survive during your childhood. You did something that most people dont, and that is. You rose above your raising. It is something that very few people do and you should be very proud of that! Now me I also make lemon aid. I try to not let things get me down. I have suffered from depression (yes happy lil me) during that time I was very self absorbed, and I was taking medication. I have not taken anything for depression in over 5 years. I didn't like the way it made me feel,. I think you need to feel the lows in life to feel the highs in life. We all have times where we think back and it makes us sad, but we keep right on moving. Some days it may be just for you, some days it is your kids that keep you moving. Maybe next week it will be your hubby. When nothing gets me moving now a days I turn to my lord. Without him I am nothing with him I am everything. I'm sorry what was the question? LOL

Most of the time, I make lemonade. Although, the urge to throw lemons can be quite strong at times. Depends on the person also. There are a few people I would very much like to use for target practice. I try to be nice. I try to restrain myself. I am not perfect and sometimes I don't take the time to squish the lemon. I just haul off and throw the lemon.

I am reminded of the "run by fruiting" scene in Mrs. Doubtfire. LOL I think it depends on the situation and the people...and whether or not my throwing arm hurts. Seriously, I'd much rather make lemonade. I happen to love it. I used to eat lemons when I was a kid. My granny would cut them in half and sprinkle a little sugar on them. Interesting concept-even lemons are a treat with a little sugar added.

so all we need to do is add a little sugar when life starts throwing fruit at us, and we are set for life... I remember that scene as well.. thanks for the chuckle.

I'm very impressed with your story, Misheleen73, and how you've risen above adversity. I share your philosophy of "turning lemons into lemonade." I believe it is the sensible thing to do. Why throw lemons at people? All that does is create hostility. I'd much rather share some lemonade with them! And your poem is VERY inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing it. It has made my day.
