I have a friend who work in SAudi ARabia, there she met an Indian national, they have grown to like each other and have a relationship HE is a MED TECH and my friend is a NURSE. when the Indian Boyfriend return from Home he broke my friend's heart saying that he was "intended" to marry an INDIAN GIRL who gave his parents a "DOTE". And likewise, an ARABIAN GIRL before be married to an ARABIAN BOY has to receive a "DOTE". CAN THEY JUST MARRY WITHOUT A "DOTE"?

This is a custom in their respective countries which until now, has remained intact. For persons who has grown up in areas where dowries are unheard of, they find this practice horrible. But let us give consideration that for them, giving dowries means that the ones who intends to marry another is really serious enough in so doing. Producing the dowries alone requires a good amount of effort from the side of the individual who does it. It is thus presumed that the marriage will really last long because securing it has cost one of the partners so much.

In my opinion, a DOTE is just like a DOWRY. Where the counter party give gifts or fortune or something with intention of proposing to marry. This is done through parents or relatives and sometimes the girl or boy don't know about this cause it was done by their parents. It's a culture practice and not a religion practice. In my opinion, religion should come first compare to culture, so, in my opinion, the Arabian still can get married without giving a DOTE. DOTE is mostly done by parents who have good relationship with other family/friend and intend to get the family closer by match one of their children in a marriage.
