In India, the couple observe 50th anniversary of their wedding with a lots of religious festivities and it is almost like a remarriage at this age. It is attended by children, grand children, great grand children, sometimes the parents of the couple who have reached 50 years of their fruitful marriage. This is really a grand celebration. My cousin sister is celebration her 50th year of wedding and her husband incidently is 70 and there are some special prayers for him too.

This event of my cousin sister and her husband will be held at Bangalore and she is expecting 2000 nearest and dearest relatives to attend the programme. A day long celebration includes giving of gifts to all the nearest and dearest (most silver articles), priests who perform prayers will be given gifts in the form of gold. The expenditure on this is likely to be $1,00,000. This programme will be the talk for a week among the community.

Yes my husband and I will have been married for 36 years in December and I guess we will stay that way. Actually I am too old now to train someone else, so will just have to 'put up with him' and he will have to do the same for me. LOL

i know a lot of people... my parents for example. my relatives and a couple of my friend's parents. although live-in arrangements are beginning to take root here in my country, a lot of people still prefer to get married and stay together.

That is great to see. It makes me happy to know some people do take their marriage vows seriously. It's not often you hear of long term marriages these days.

My parents have been married for 42 years. I realize it's not been an easy 42 years for them, especially now that I am an adult and I am witness to the dynamics of their relationship. But in spite their flaws and faults, I see a basic caring for each other and I guess this is what has sustained them throughout their married life.
