my sleeping habit is really starting to worry me these days.:( every night i just couldn't manage to sleep earlier than 1 am. this habit has remained with me since my schools but there were not much problems during those time. these days i m finding it to affect my health and my activity plus energy level as my body has now developed a kind of cycle for itself;) i mean everyday when i sleep late at night i usually don't get sleep of more than 5/6 hours so i start to feel dizzy after the mid day and usually doze off to make up for the sleep deprivation.naturally after this siesta of 1/2 hours(sometimes even three;)) i don't feel sleepy at night at the time when it's usual time of going to bed; so again i sleep late and the cycle goes on and on like this!:( could you suggest me some ways which could bring change in my sleeping habit and which could make me sleep earlier? before i thought it's related to my computer and television watching but when i avoided these two i found myself with a book in my hand and thus i was again sleeping late without my computer or television..:) how do you manage your own sleeping habit? or you are just like me in your sleeping habit?;) but anyway i m really looking forward to find some suggestion for it because i m starting to hate myself as it's making me a bit lethargic..

i think you should have a particular routine activities. Just don't sleep during day when you feel. take food at right time and do your work when they should be done. also do more physical activities and it will be automaticaaly make u sleepy at night. If all these don't work, then you can listen to a shooting music at night .

i agree. having a regular fixed time for lunch/dinner and proper exercising would definitely improve the sleep.

I think you have to do it bit by bit. I am not the best person to suggest a situation because I have been trying to right my sleeping time from 5/6am many times and failing each time. Just try to see if you can move your bed time a little closer. Like 12.35am. Then 12.30 am etc. Bit by bit.

Oh kaplya. I'm a certified night owl and haven't had a straight 8 hours of sleep for years. Not since I had my first child. I don't really have any specific schedule of hitting the bed. Its erractic. I used to take Vitamin B complex with a minimal dosage of valerian root. It is a very safe supplement and I slept like a baby. I felt well rested that time. I think I better hop in to my favorite health store and buy that supplement again. I was seriously in need of getting more sleep. You can ask your doctor more about valerian root.

Stop napping for starters. As you already know that's contributing to your late night sleeping. If you don't nap, you may feel the need to go to bed sooner. There are lots of natural remedies, such as herbal tea. If you like tea, try some chamomile. It will relax you. Another herbal remedy is Melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that helps regulate other hormones and maintains the body's circadian rhythm. It can help induce sleep. Ive used it and it helps. For more information on melatoninan: http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/melatonin-000315.htm

Hey you remind me of me! Hehe. Seriously, we have the same sleeping pattern. It becomes a problem when there's an important activity for the whole day and I'm unable to get my siesta. But a nice cup of coffee usually takes care of that. For falling asleep I recommend drinking a warm glass of milk. If you're going to read, read a boring book that you wouldn't be interested in. If you're going to watch TV, watch C-span (LOL).

You're like my younger brother. He also started having sleeping problems when he was still a schoolboy. He had a fascination with computers so he got himself one. From then on, his sleeping pattern changed and worsened. I am a light sleeper so I still can hear him awake until 1 or 2 in the morning. I believe you should try relaxing, free yourself from all the stress you encountered for the entire day, and leave it for another day. Forget your problems even for just 7 or 8 hours and bring to dreamland only happy thoughts by thinking of these joyful moments of your life before hitting the bunk. You're on the right track when you started ignoring the tv and the computer. But the book? Nah, there is a time for everything - watching, surfing, and reading. These are not bad, though. Just learn to do them on the right time. You may not feel the effects just yet. Give yourself a massage or hire someone to massage you. I know this works especially for very stressed people. I do give massages myself to my hubby, parents, and siblings. My mom in particular told me that she felt relieved and as soon as 15 minutes that I began massaging her back and muscles, she is off to dreamland. I guess not everyone is like her, but just give it a try. Avoid taking in salty foods before bedtime. Also, don't push yourself too hard. Begin the change in your slumber by adjusting your sleep step by step. If you currently sleep by 1am, try making it a bit earlier, say 12:30 or 12midnight. Avoid taking pills or syrups before lying your back to your bed. This may be contrary to other people's opinions, but my only reason is that you may (or may not) acquire an addiction to these medicines and won't be able to sleep even more in the days ahead without taking them. No offense to other people, but this is just my suggestion. You may take my word or ignore it. It's your choice anyway. Good luck and take care.

i m sorry that i cannot help you with that but the only thing i can do is give you some solace by letting you know that you are not the only one .There are a whole lot of people suffering the same 'disease' including me. But some of tested ways to slightly improve the condition are: 1 try to tire urself either through work or exercise. 2 if u are not very interested in reading, read something before sleeping.(that really is one of the best hypnotisers for many students) 3 try to keep ur mind out of tension,if any

Some of the recommended self-help aids for sleep include limiting your caffiene intake, and no caffiene after 3 to 5 p.m.; exercise in the morning or early afternoon, never at night; limit television shows for two hours before bedtime, and don't watch thrillers or action shows during that time; keep your schedule getting up and going to bed at the same time; do not watch tv or read in bed; if you have been in bed for 30 mins and are still not asleep, get up and go into another room. Read or look at a magazine for 15 to 30 minutes, then go back to bed; keep your bedroom organized and neat -- it will be more relaxing. Try to be finished with dinner by 7 or 7:30 p.m. If you eat anything after that, keep it healthy like fresh fruit and yogurt to avoid the sugar rush of processed foods. Try to create a relaxing atmosphere. Sometimes simple things like moving the furniture or buying new curtains and bed sheets can make you more relaxed. If you try all of these and it still doesn't work, talk to your doctor about a short-term, mild sleep aid to help get you on the right track.

Dude teh only solution to it as i know cause i had been facing it myself is that when u feel like dosing off in the afternoon dont go to sleep at that time.Have anything that keeps u awake like a red bull or a coffee and then when u get too tired and desperately wanna go to sleep then go to sleep by 10 P.m and then try and wake up at 8 in the morning. This way u will come out of the odd sleep cycles and be active the whole day long....

Dear kaplya The following is my advice: Have Good Sleep Hygiene: Get to bed at a reasonable hour and try to give yourself enough time to get the sleep that you need. This changes from person to person — it could be 7, 8, 9 hours, etc. If you have trouble sleeping, avoid caffeine after a 2 p.m. It takes that long for the effects of it to leave your system. Exercise: Exercise is good for general body health. You won't awaken with as many aches and pains. Relax: When we're young, we can just crash. But the sleep system isn't as strong when we grow up. It doesn't come in with the same drive. It doesn't last with the same drive. You have to decompress and set the stage for it to come in. Limit your stress.

Do not sleep the whole day. Try to work on things or engage in sports activities. I am sure you will be sleepy before 9pm. I hope this can help you. God bless!

i'm also a late night sleeper but i know of some ways that would help you in sleeping earlier. One is to have a good exercise on that day. I've observed that time when i still do belly dancing, that i get to sleep earlier than those days that i did not. I was even amaze then that i slept earlier already. Second is tea. i've read from books that tea really helps too. another is drinking milk before bedtime. milk contains amino acid called tryptophan that would stimulate you in getting sleepy. also i believe that you have to relax and free your mind from worries for you to sleep early. trully not being able to sleep on the time you want to, and rather end up later is unpleasant really it affects your health. So i suggest that you try these things i inumerated. And i hope these will work for you.
