Are apologies difficult for you?

They are for me. I recently offended one of my friends pretty badly. I always liked to joke around and pick with other people. I have been friends with this guy for a couple of years, we always joke around. I would crack a joke about his girlfriend, and he would tell one about mine...(er, lack of girlfriend). But yesterday he made a mistake, a small one, and I made a joke about it. I dont know if he was that offended or just embarrassed. But I dont know how to apologise. It was just a joke, you know? He wasn't supposed to take it so hard

If he was embarrassed prehaps it better not to draw attention to the situation again. But on the other hand dont let a lot of time elapse before you speak to him again. Prehaps at some point mention that you sometimes put your foot in it when you are only joking about.

Yeah, I will see him tomorrow. I am going to try to explain that I feel bad about it and I didn't know it would get such a negitive reaction.

I have a hard time apologizing for things like this. I mean there is a part of you that thinks that you knew this person well enough to tease them about something with no bad feelings, and then it happens. I guess I have the hardest time apologizing for things like that 'cause I am already off base since they did not respond initially the way I expected, that I have no idea how they are going to handle the apology.
