When do you start letting your children "date"

I had a parent call me today and ask if Kami could go "out" with a couple of other friends. THey were going to drop them at the movies and then pick them up when the movie was over.
I was not comfortable at all with allowing 3-4 nine year olds go off on their own.
Am I too overprotective?

Hmmm!!?,,thats dangerous and suspicious,,,do you know the other's children parents well??
I would let mines when they hit 7th or 8th grade in school...less than that its a no no!!!

No. I drop off my 11 and 12 year olds at the library and would consider doing so at the movies, but not at 9yo. And not on a "date" with boys. We plan to have our kids bring their "dates" to our house and hang out here, when we are home, instead of dating.

I totally agree with you. I do allow my 8 and 6 year old go to the library alone, however. We only live 1 block away, and I call the librarian to tell them they are coming, and how long they are allowed to be there (usually only 5-10 min.--unless it's story hour.)

No, I don't think you are being overprotective.I think I would feel a little nervous about letting a bunch of pre-teens ALONE. Not that they would do anything, but they are still too young to be left unsupervised. My oldest is 8, and I panic when I leave him home for a few minutes while I get the mail.

I do not let my Kids even see people at school now. I told a little girl just befor shcool got out that my son was to young to go out with any one. she was standing ther with her dad when I told her. An she asked me when he would be old enough, and I told her I thought at lest 14 years old. To my surpise the girls dad said, and that goes for you to hun. You can date when you are 1414. So any how I am suck on the number 14 for dates going out of any kind unsuppervised.
